Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... 16:27 - Dec 9 with 13086 views | DarkBrandon | ... and the number of them means we are probably preventing thousands of more casual supporters coming along and enjoying the ride (and then becoming more active supporters of tomorrow). Season ticket holders have: * Their pick of the seat * Every home game * With their mates * Priority on away tickets [Edit - apparently this isn't a thing] * Get to resale the games they can't make * All for a discount Casual supporters have to * Pay for a membership * Scramble for the few remaining tickets, many of which are restricted view * And pay a premium for each ticket. Whilst many STHs have been attending games for many years, plenty haven't been, and I think the balance has moved too far. I'd propose that each season ticket should entitle you to entry to 18 of the 19 home league games. Different STHs would miss different games (possibly decided randomly, possibly on a block-by-block basis) and this would free up ~1000 extra seats each game which could be balloted amongst all the people locked out of regular games. I'm aware mightily p.ssing off your most loyal customers isn't recommended in most business textbooks I'm also aware we might well go down, KM leave and we'll return to more normal levels of demand without the need for any of this. So you must also be aware that with success comes bums on seats. Every club that has ever been has experienced the same as us this season. Surprised you are surprised.

I’ve managed to get one single ticket for a home match so far this season, and every game has sold out as far as I’m aware. I’m had a season ticket many years back, but it was never the case that doors were shut on thousands of fans except for the occasional game. As that is the case now, I think the balance changes. I’m not saying I should be able to go to 5 games a season … but we will have loads of fans who won’t be paying £40 on the off-chance of getting a ticket and they have next to no chance. And even if you do pay the £40, you struggle to get in much. [Post edited 9 Dec 2024 18:48]

There are still tickets for sale for the Brighton game, if you haven’t got one for that game.

But we could easily end up with fewer *different fans able to get into the ground this season than last.

So fans who are not season ticket holders, should have the right to get tickets for home games of their choice? Think there is something in the water today.

Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... on 16:35 - Dec 9 by DarkBrandon | I wonder how many of our current STHs were STHs under MM. One in four? |
in our family, my parents have had a ST since the 80s, me since the 90s and my son since 2019. Only the boy has had a good run, the rest of us have sat through some awful seasons We've also also done away games since forever, mother is on over 1200 consecutive games. We've done our time and are taking each game as it come and enjoying the run in the premiership. We're enjoying the away games, going by train and having good days out.

Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... on 17:09 - Dec 9 by Churchman | There’s a natural cull anyway when people move away or become to infirm to go or pass away. The benefits of a ST are guaranteed seat and a reduction in cost if you go to games or as now resell your ticket. That’s it. I’ve been an ST holder on and off since 92 and all seat stadia. Not every season in the 90s (work) and not when we were in the L1 years (my dad started becoming unwell after my mum died). In our last season in L1 I bought one of the cheap ones in March 2003 for 2003/4 season because I missed going even though I’d be going on my own. I didn’t care what division we might be in - I just wanted to attend again regardless of when I could. I totally lucked out. Pure and simple. It really isn’t payback for what went before but I did endure all of the McCarthy, Keane, Jewell without missing more than a handful of home games. Looking back, Magilton’s team was ok, as was Royle’s. GB obviously. Pre 92, I loved standing and just rocking up to a game. You cannot go back, but I miss that. In terms of the OP, I get the sentiment. The solution ultimately is a larger ground. Not too large though. I’ve always said 33k. Ashton clearly thinks 40k but in the light of the past few seasons I’d settle for 35k with unrestricted views and better facilities. |
I’m nervous about expanding the ground. It can sometimes be the cart before the horse. There are several established PL clubs who have lower attendances than us, and they probably benefit from not having the millstone of capital loan repayments. The guaranteed seat is a pretty massive benefit. That’s really the only thing that’s worth anything. Far more important than per game reduction in price or any other freebies. It sounds like better priority for away games would be popular with some ST holders, but would squeeze out people like me who go to away games but rarely PR.

Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... on 19:20 - Dec 9 with 1266 views | Kievthegreat | Do STs have it too good? I mean half your points are just wrong or non-senical. Perhaps the discount is a bit much, but TBH it's a reward for loyalty and commitment. Are there too many of them? Yes. The club oversold in the Championship which means now that we've had to give away seats to Press and away fans there is not enough leftover. Also impacted ST holders this year with the awkward situation over those being moved into far worse seats when their old seats were needed for the aforementioned press and away fans. The club may have put on a waiting list, but I think the club shouldn't sell any new STs unless they reduce the numbers by a minimum of 1,000. I think if they stay in the Prem it should probably be 2,000, if only to not shortchange the club.

We're selling out every week, so the club aren't going to complain. And what's even better is if we do lose a few fans, we've got fans like yourself waiting in the wings to hoover up those tickets.

I suspect that if we get relegated there will be a few season tickets given up and available. And dont forget that it was only 2 seasons ago that the club were trying to promote their sale and get the volume to this level. In principle id be prepared to forgo a game each season. Suspect it would never happen as too complicated and controversial for the club. The extension of the west stand and new cobbold would also help oc.

Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... on 23:38 - Dec 9 with 960 views | VanDusen | This. This is what the Premier League means. People who come on here thinking it's about 'entertainment' and as such they should have the entitlement to just turn up when they want to - especially if they have deeper pockets. When for many thousands of us like me, being an Ipswich fan is part of my way of life and the community I belong to. Why on earth should I be pushed out of that just so someone who probably joked about the team being 'sh*t' for the past two decades whilst wearing a Man Utd shirt around the Sailmakers push me out of something I have cherished for 45 years!?! The sooner they kick those brands out into their Super League the better and then without the glamour we can have proper football again for those that want it and the hangers on can go and have their days out watching big clubs every now and again. I don't care who we're playing - I'm here to watch Ipswich not boast to my friends I saw Arsenal or one of the other entities that really no longer represent football clubs, just money-making monoliths. Btw - thought it was richly ironic noticing yesterday the Premier League even now has a player named after Adam Smith...
