Unpopular opinion: Season Ticket Holders have it too good .... 16:27 - Dec 9 with 13088 viewsDarkBrandon

... and the number of them means we are probably preventing thousands of more casual supporters coming along and enjoying the ride (and then becoming more active supporters of tomorrow).

Season ticket holders have:
* Their pick of the seat
* Every home game
* With their mates
* Priority on away tickets [Edit - apparently this isn't a thing]
* Get to resale the games they can't make
* All for a discount

Casual supporters have to
* Pay for a membership
* Scramble for the few remaining tickets, many of which are restricted view
* And pay a premium for each ticket.

Whilst many STHs have been attending games for many years, plenty haven't been, and I think the balance has moved too far.

I'd propose that each season ticket should entitle you to entry to 18 of the 19 home league games. Different STHs would miss different games (possibly decided randomly, possibly on a block-by-block basis) and this would free up ~1000 extra seats each game which could be balloted amongst all the people locked out of regular games.

I'm aware mightily p.ssing off your most loyal customers isn't recommended in most business textbooks
I'm also aware we might well go down, KM leave and we'll return to more normal levels of demand without the need for any of this.

I'm a season ticket holder and couldn't attend Sunday's match because of illness, and I won't be able to attend the rearranged Chelsea game. I put both tickets on the club resale site,, but nobody wanted the ticket to Sundays game, and so far the Chelsea ticket is unsold so I think your post isB/S

I didn’t want a ST in L1, and don’t want one now.

I’ve managed to get one single ticket for a home match so far this season, and every game has sold out as far as I’m aware.

I’m had a season ticket many years back, but it was never the case that doors were shut on thousands of fans except for the occasional game. As that is the case now, I think the balance changes.

I’m not saying I should be able to go to 5 games a season … but we will have loads of fans who won’t be paying £40 on the off-chance of getting a ticket and they have next to no chance. And even if you do pay the £40, you struggle to get in much.

My brother has managed to get a ticket for 75% of our home games.

Do you actually queue or just think it’s sold out and not bother?

Lots of premier league clubs have long waiting lists for season tickets no one expected to be where we are now. When Ashton said he wanted 28 thousand every week I thought pie in the sky. The answer is to expand the ground so more available to all if the ground held forty thousand possibly 25 thousand season tickets four thousand away and the rest for people who want to go a few times a season. I was that person when I played local football on a Saturday as you can't beat playing yourself. Then back every week when your time is up.

I've got a 100% success rate (1 in the normal window and 1 in resale window). However we've seen people unable to get any. Peoples mileage will vary. I think one massive help to me is I'm looking for a single seat literally anywhere and have no requirements beyond that.

One thing I think (others can confirm if this is true) is a shame is if you need 2 seats together, like a parent and a child. In my searches I've never seen 2 seats next to eachother. Only odd seats. I feel for anyone who wants to take a kid to their first game because it feels like there's no opportunities.

This. This is what the Premier League means. People who come on here thinking it's about 'entertainment' and as such they should have the entitlement to just turn up when they want to - especially if they have deeper pockets. When for many thousands of us like me, being an Ipswich fan is part of my way of life and the community I belong to. Why on earth should I be pushed out of that just so someone who probably joked about the team being 'sh*t' for the past two decades whilst wearing a Man Utd shirt around the Sailmakers push me out of something I have cherished for 45 years!?!

The sooner they kick those brands out into their Super League the better and then without the glamour we can have proper football again for those that want it and the hangers on can go and have their days out watching big clubs every now and again. I don't care who we're playing - I'm here to watch Ipswich not boast to my friends I saw Arsenal or one of the other entities that really no longer represent football clubs, just money-making monoliths.

Btw - thought it was richly ironic noticing yesterday the Premier League even now has a player named after Adam Smith...

Ah, but does Adam Smith have the Wealth of Nations?

That was a hard fought win on a cold and rainy night!

Funniest thing about that was that it was the game after the Charlton 4-4 - we went 2-0 up early on and let it slip to 2-2. More relief than joy when we scored the winner!

We are also s/t holders. We put our seats up for resale, because of the cancelling of trains, at 09.20 on Sunday morning and they were resold at 09.30.
Also we cant get to the Chelsea game and have put up our seats again but these are not on sale yet.

I did that for the Everton game at 9.30 on the Sat morning and it was resold by 10.30. I guess it depends on fixture, weather, seat cost and timing.

It’d be great if we could adopt fully grown adults too.

Like, I don’t want to have to raise a kid from birth. Spare me all that bum wiping, sleepless nights and the drain on my bank account (they expect something every birthday and Christmas).

It would be much easier if someone else could do all that bit and when I’m ready and want a child to see me through my golden years, I can adopt a fully grown one and they can come and mow my lawn and do my shopping.

Seems a flawless plan to me.

Might be a dumb question, but how do you go about putting your seat up for resale? I've not done it yet.

Step one: Login to the website with your Supporter ID which is on your season card.
Step two: Navigate to your Personal Details tab.
Step three: Under the ‘Ticket Resale’ heading click on the ‘SELL TICKETS’ button - this will then list the games and seats available for resale.
Step four: Select the seat(s) that you would like to put up for resale by ticking the relevant box and then clicking ‘CONTINUE’.
Step five: Another window will pop up which will confirm which seats you have selected. Please enter the relevant bank account that you would like the 1/19th minus a £1 administration fee to go back to and click ‘OK’. If this is your first time, then please click ‘ADD PAYMENT DETAILS’ to enter your details. Please ensure these details are entered carefully.
Step six: This will then put that seat up for resale and available for another supporter to purchase when the Club opts to release those seats for sale. Please note – it is at the Club’s discretion as to when these seats are released for sale for fellow supporters.

The Chelsea game has been sold out every time I sporadically look (sometimes 4 or 5 times a day) so not sure what has happened to your ticket if it hasn't been sold. Maybe you're not doing something right? (that's not a criticism, I'm just surprised you're putting tickets for sale and they haven't been sold, especially Chelsea game.

You've hit the nail on the head. I think single tickets, and if you're happy for a RV ticket, you could have probably got one for every game. Brighton still has a couple.

I'm looking for 2 tickets and tried in the normal window about 7 times and got a tickets once...….

They seem to go as quick as you can click on tickets and press add to basket. Is that a case of too many people being able to buy at one time? I'm not sure how the system works.

I think this is probably true to an extent, and isn't the ST holders fault, but there were too many STs sold of the back of the League 1 promotion - I'd heard club initially wanted to limit it to 21k, but it ended up nearer 22k. But most of these were sold before early bird deadline so when people could have been buying another L1 season ticket.

Lots of people have missed out, and STs had got to a stage when they were too cheap compared to matchday prices so I never understood why people just didn't get one and use when they can - I know plenty who retained them and were only making half the games because lived or worked away.

Now with resale platform, no one is going to chop in a ST - and if we go down, and don't bounce straight back up then we'll be back to the same hardy souls who have always had a ST, and they will earn the right to have too many benefits for when we do make it back to an in demand ticket!

Side note - what happens if a ST holder dies, if you have an elderly relative can you keep renewing it for them, or takeover the ticket so to speak?

Nothing to stop you. Man U did an amnesty a few years back as a large chunk of ST holders were dead and the tickets was still being used/paid for.

Brilliant idea. Plus anyone who survived all the Pauls, and Roy (four centre halves at home) Keane, gets a special piece of paper with the word Loyal Shareholder on it.
Oh and a shiny reflective plastic mug to drink their special buy "towntastic, speed bar instant coffee".
I've sat in the same seat for that past twenty five years and before that stood in roughly the same spot for a further twenty five years. (Well actually now I come to think of it I haven't sat in the same seat becausethis year we got nice shiny new ones).

I think I'll go and make myself a prawn sandwich now....
