And if the bid is ‘far below’ their valuation, but we’re still in talks, also suggests to me it might not be a million miles off. All eyes on Boro team tomorrow then…

Silly money considering he’s done nothing so far (in terms of the PL) and hasn’t even played a season of professional football yet. But it seems KM is being brave in sticking to his plan for developing players. Will it be enough? Is this guy likely to have an impact like Omari or Delap?

£20 million plus big add-ons will probably do it. Seen him a few times on TV this season, looks very decent.

Yup, suspect it’ll be a figure around that. Also helps that Carrick, - who will obviously be loathed to lose him - will probably be putting more of a word in for him to come to us, than Palace given his relationship with McKenna, if both sides do agree a deal. Fingers crossed.

He has had an impact at senior level in games before for Liverpool. Had some good games for Scotland against good opposition. I watched him play vs Bayern Munich in pre season a while back and he left Alphonso Davies for dead. He is absolutely rapid. [Post edited 3 Jan 19:45]

I imagine Liverpool will ask for either a matching or buy back clause as well.

Will be a fabulous signing. Him setting up Delap with Philogene on the other side and Omari behind will br something else. Heard that Carrick would like Jack Clarke, not sure we’d be up for loosing him.

Looks to have legs but Palace have also put in a bid of £15m by all accounts. He's a great player so if we can beat a potential regelation team to his signature then all good. Anyone got Fridge's number to get him to do some inside work?

Thanks, sounds promising. I suppose we’re in as good a place with recruitment as we have been for years (decades), so I trust KM and the team to do their homework and be able to spot a player. I was thinking we’d aim more for experience now, but I suppose affordability is an issue.

Am I correct in saying Clarke cannot play for anyone else this season other than Sunderland? Didn’t he start a couple games for them before he joined us?

Likewise. That's why the Godfrey deal makes so much sense. Doak is still a raw talent but just one of those that if it goes right would be jackpot for the club. A bit like Delap I think in terms of ceiling.

Agreed. He destroyed us in the home game earlier this season. Pace and trickery to burn. Boro will be desperate to keep him as their promotion hopes hinge very much on the impact he can make. I would be very surprised if the Scousers flogged him off.

I wish they would ban buy back clauses, or at least make a rule that the buy back price is at least 3x the original fee.

Or the buying club don't be stupid originally and agree to a buyback for anyless than 3 x the fee you're paying

£16m bid rejected for Ben Doak… on 21:08 - Jan 3 with 5407 views | pointofblue | Part of me is wondering if Doak is a smokescreen. Previously we've been linked with one player, then swoop for another which hasn't been reported. Edit - been, not beem. [Post edited 3 Jan 21:32]

£16m bid rejected for Ben Doak… on 21:08 - Jan 3 with 5406 views | SuffolkPunchFC | Where a buy back clause is agreed, the buying club will be getting the player at a lower fee than without. So it will often depend on available finances. Do you pay 25% more for future surety, or keep the extra millions for another player deal?
