... would presume that means Luongo would be off? If anything in it of course.

You'd have to assume a low fee? Lyon are not in a good place financially (along with basically every club in Ligue 1 that is not PSG) and at his age we probably won't get many years out of him.

Does anyone remember the dossier that was 'leaked' this summer, about the profiles of players we were interested in? A lot of the links this January suggest to me the same type of dossier has gone out to agents - and people are then linking available players with us as they fit that bill. I'd be amazed if Matic came in, but it could be we've suggested we're in the market for a CM.

Isn’t he a CDM?

No chance.

Oh and he’s 37 this year.

RIP Sir Bobby

According to our friend Fabrizio, Lyon are about to sell another defensive midfielder (to Como, so suspect this report is conflating these interests). We know they are looking to raise a lot of money at the moment so it is a buyers market there. I would be keener on Lacazette...

Want to say it's strange, but perhaps not.

It's an experienced head, got to be a great pro to still be playing at the top level too and will be known to McKenna so a good character in the squad. More like Cajuste, so a better replacement from the bench if he still can't do 90 and at 36, not the end of the world only needing to do 20 mins or so at a time.

As said, would likely allow Massimo to go.

Quite like the idea.

Yeah probably one that's become available to do and we're seeing if we can jump on it. He's a two time Premier League winner who since moving from Serbia has played in the top leagues in Europe his whole career.

Getting on a bit but I think an experienced Premier League pro in the building would do us the world of good. Only needs to be a short term deal (1.5 years?) and if we have a genuine chance of getting it done I think we'd be silly to let the opportunity pass.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

About a month or so ago I know we were very keen to bring in another midfielder and, if Cajuste remained uninjured, Phillips was likely to return to City.

I'd assume his wages are 2-3x the rest of the squad and, given how little playing time he's had, that doesn't make much sense in the world of PSR.

Surprised at peoples surprise by this. Yes he's 36 but can obviously still play as he's playing for Lyon (played 75 mins at the weekend). Has played way over 200 games in the Prem and won it twice. Has played under Mckenna before. Just makes our options much much better.

I don't know but I assume all this talk of Phillips going back to City is just nonsense along with all the noise that goes with Philips not being interested/fit etc. you can see in his reactions etc how much he is enjoying things. I'd be amazed if we had the option to return him and despite their injuries don't think any chance City choose to. So he's here for the season and I'm glad.

Matic is getting on but can see how he would help the team with his experience and ability. The difference between seeing out a game and not maybe.

Spot on.

With this one it is the links as well Matic and Mourinho worked together at 3 clubs (Chelsea, Man utd and Roma), KM worked with Mourinho, so you would like to think this goes our way.

Madness to think we had the Paul's involved in our football club and now we are testing the water with a cheeky bid for Nemnaja Matic, age aside, he is a class player with loads of experience to steady the midfield and to help see out games esp where we are playing a defensive game.

Since KM came in we’ve had experienced pros in place, even if just to make training that bit more intense, and give players room to learn and develop. Dom Ball, Sone Aluko… not week in week out players, but have helped the squad no end.

If it’s a good deal, I’d not be against it. Imagine him and his wealth of experience in training, talking to Omari, Delap… and I dare even say my favourite AAH. He’d be able to pass on tips and ideas.

We’ll be good again... one day

It makes a whole lot of sense to me, Morsy is only a few games away from a two game ban, if any of the other players are injured or suspended at that time we are very thin on the ground Also at times I think we could go to three in midfield rather than defence, maybe in games where we think we can win

I would rather be bringing on Matic with 10 mins to go than Jack Clarke, not a dig at JC but that experience is what we need to see games out.

I think this might be part of the reason we're looking for someone like him. Very experienced at top levels and more defensive-minded.

He also pretty much said it one week ago. Phillips is going nowhere.

McKenna: Phillips Will Have an Important Part to Play in the Second Half of the Season 3rd Jan 2025 17:34
Blues manager Kieran McKenna says on-loan Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is in a good place and is going to have an important part to play in the second half of the season. 4

I don't think we need Matic and don't think it makes much sense generally with how we recruit, but it'd be so surreal to see him in a Town kit i hope it happens.
