Presser on 14:05 - Jan 10 by DanTheMan | That's frustrating, would have been an ideal game for him to get used to the system. |
Thought I read somewhere that he has a slight injury anyway so would probably have been unavailable. Can anyone confirm?

Presser on 13:50 - Jan 10 by PhilTWTD | Not sure where things are on Philogene, no comment on Doak, Hirst back Sunday, Szmodics out for a few weeks with ankle problem, Omari back for Liverpool probably. Confirms Janoi joining Chesterfield, pays tribute. Possibility H Clarke can move on loan, discussions re Slicker, but not at moment. I asked about all these, hence scant coverage!

Judging by our luck with injuries he's probably dropped the pen on the way to the desk to sign the contract and then fell over it. Now out for 6 weeks with a jarred back!

Bit silly really. We know what we won't get with Al hamadi and Hirst is coming back from injury. Why not give an u21 a half.

Because it’s a game we want to win, and clearly AAH is of a higher level than any of the U21’s. [Post edited 10 Jan 18:12]

If there isn't 1 striker outside the first team that can't play a half against Bristol rovers at a better rate than aah with his fitness issues then shut them both down until cat 1 is actually doable.

Is it though. 2 squads outside the first team which aren't good enough to provide the first team with 1 striker who can play against 20th place league 1 side Bristol rovers in a one off game and all you're asking for is someone who can play some minutes on par with a player who can't run and has come from league 2. Not asking for a new delap. But surely someone can have a run out.

Yeah it is. Why wouldn’t AAH play? He’s quite obviously the 3rd best #9 at the club (and one of the 2 better isn’t fit yet). If we’re going to rest Delap, which we should, then Ali obviously comes in. Is he premier league quality? Clearly not, not sure even close, he’s probably closer to the level of our opposition tomorrow than our opposition in the league this season. But fans are so OTT with him and he’s just a very obvious scapegoat goat right now. He’s probably a L1 forward who has been elevated way above his pay grade. Tomorrow is the perfect opportunity to start him though. I think people suggesting the likes of Osman Foyo come into the picture are really underestimating how ridiculous the gap is between NLS and L1 let alone the premier league. Even I’ve played in NLS, it’s genuinely a different game with the same name.

Gap to prem doesn't come into it. I'm not talking about the prem. An yes aah will be involved. But he's clearly not fit so instead of dragging him through minutes and risking hirst too soon potentially to (, which we've done with him before) I'd hope we would give minutes to a youngster. BTW. Fans are not ott with Aah. They just see an unfit striker being given minuted which he really shouldn't be playing and it's still baffling why he keeps being given them when he can't run.

We literally don’t have anyone else. He’s playing because we failed to bring in reinforcements in the summer and Hirst got injured. But given where we’re at now, he’s playing because he’s the best we’ve got to do that role. He’s not good enough, but he’s the best we’ve got. And we clearly wouldn’t risk Hirst if he wasn’t ready to have 10 minutes. The medical department are all over that stuff, he’ll only play if it’s deemed beneficial to his recovery rather than a risk to it. [Post edited 10 Jan 20:28]

The best available at to do that role.. He hasn't had a role tho. He's come on. Ran for 5 minutes. Pushes people over. He's had 1 game where he ran for 10 and looked fitter but that seemed to ruin him further as he was fked for the next appearence. If you can't even run then sorry but you could stick a Harry Clarke uptop and ask him to run around and he'd do more of a role. That's not btw aah fault it really isn't and I feel really sorry for him. But we've imo handled him terribly and it hasn't actually helped us in anyway bringing him on this season. Hirst.. appreciate we do have a medical team. But as you've said we apparenly have no one else to use so if we play hirst we are using someone who only went on grass 2 weeks ago. Or delap who we really don't need to risk. All for the sake of given some kid 30 to 40 minutes of football.

His role has been to take some load off Delap, simple as that. You talk about protecting players from injury, that’s why Delap has largely come off when he has and he’s ran his race. The running around pushing people thing is a nonsense, sorry. He’s just a player out of his depth in the premier league, it’s as simple as that. Had Hirst stayed fit we wouldn’t have seen any of AAH. Had we got another #9 when we were trying we wouldn’t either. We shouldn’t be, but we are where we are.
