Anyone got a feeling the Philogene signing isn’t going to happen? on 15:20 - Jan 11 by TractorWood | I still can't really work out why someone with a new contract at a club seemingly going places in the league, champions league and FA cup would move to relegation scrap Ipswich. He'll definitely get chances at Villa if he stays. |
As well as wanting to get good coaching, players want to play regularly. KMcK is Town's greatest asset in terms of attracting young talent and giving them a stage where they can showcase their skills. 12 months ago Delap was someone City were happy to offload, now they are back on his list of suiters.

Anyone got a feeling the Philogene signing isn’t going to happen? on 14:38 - Jan 11 by Kieran_Knows | They don’t just work on one deal at a time though. He’ll have been one of plenty of deals/clubs/agents/players they’ll be talking too. I mean, without sounding stupid, what particularly has his agent done wrong? I know he touted him to pretty much anyone that listened in the summer, and was a bit of a twonk with regards to the whole Barcelona thing, but by all accounts Philogene had agreed a deal with us in the summer before Villa activated their clause, and he went there instead. Probably something I’ve missed there, but hey ho. |
Of course you don't work on one deal at a time However, it helps to know what you are spending when trying to complete other deals doesn't it? IF we're looking at Doaks for example and we've offered £18 mill and feel we can't go any further as we're spending £21 on Philogene, then IF Philogene doesn't happen, we COULD have offered £20 for Doaks for example. I was told in the summer that KM's contract talks had no effect on transfers, whilst we waiting for his decision.. Ashton then confirmed it did. Sitting on a potential signing absolutely slows things down whilst you wait for it to complete as it has a massive effect on what your next move is, financially or positionally.

Another PSR move by Villa. Seems to me they only bought him knowing they could make this sort of easy money and have made use of him in the interim.

Emery's comments seem to support this. Whole thing strikes me as very odd. As a few have said though hopefully he comes here and does great. Then it's nae bother.

Moving Philogene on is a late Xmas present for most Villa fans, even moreso for the money being discussed. Hopefully we have the last laugh, but I can't see where his chances would come from if he stays there - they took him out of the team in early December and are now hunting for 'better' (to their minds). He needs a move as much as we need another RW option.

It's human nature. Most people don't generally like the discomfort of believing something that others are questioning, they internalise it as an attack on their ability to reason so there are three ways to deal with it: 1) Attack. Ask for evidence or accuse the person of irrational worry and spreading misinformation. 2) Say nothing, see what transpires and ridicule (or grudgingly acknowledge they were right) later on. 3) Let it go, see what happens and remain emotionless because in the grand scheme of things it has feck all importance to life anyway.

Anyone got a feeling the Philogene signing isn’t going to happen? on 13:42 - Jan 11 by Trequartista | I would guess it is in doubt now if nothing's happened for 48 hours. Presumably over clauses such as matching rights and sell-ons etc. Wish they'd sort them out first before the player does the medical. |
Villa asking for matching rights would be hilarious - how many more times do they want to buy this guy and sell him on?! | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Anyone got a feeling the Philogene signing isn’t going to happen? on 16:09 - Jan 11 with 3153 views | Pinewoodblue | Extra paperwork is a meaningless statement. Whatever the reason is it is something no one wants to be first to talk about. Suspect there are clauses the agent wants inserted that are unacceptable to Ashton. For example the agent might want unlimited access to the player at anytime. Including Portman Road and training ground. Might explain Villa Managers unusual statement.

Surely players terms, salary and add ons etc would all be sorted before medicals - not afterwards! Also comment from Emery was interesting, Especially the last line. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has explained why he has agreed to sell forward Jaden Philogene to the Blues only six months after re-signing the 22-year-old from Hull City. “I explained it, I believe in Jaden Philogene, but we are, of course, always trying to get the best for the club, for the squad, the team and the players,” he said. “If he is leaving, it is because it is good for those three options.”

Have you never been placed in a position where an unexpected item appears in a contract as you are about to sign it. Years ago was about to sign a contract to purchase a house. Found a map of the property anming the anppendices which looked different, there was a dotted line across the front garden that hadn’t been mentioned previously. Turned out the land between the dotted line and the highway was owned by the local authority as there were utility pipelines/ cables across the property. Delayed signing for 24 hours much to the annoyance of the seller and their solicitors. They came back with an offer to accept a lower amount. My solicitor also reduced his fee for not picking up on it. Not everything gets sorted out in advance. With the club spending £20m+ they aren’t going to want anything in the contract that might cause friction , or complications.

Anyone got a feeling the Philogene signing isn’t going to happen? on 14:39 - Jan 11 by Tangledupin_Blue | Last we heard (I think) was Thursday when he was reported as being in town for his medical. After that the club statements ceased His recent medical history has not been great. He's missed several games this season and was out for a total of three months last season with knee problems. Maybe he hasn't satisfied our medical team of his fitness now and moving forward. Might explain why Villa are keen to offload just six months after re-signing him. We need to be patient. £20m+ is a lot for our club. We need to be sure that it is not being squandered on damaged goods. [Post edited 11 Jan 14:41]

See how his comments may be interpreted that way but I read them as Emery being diplomatic, rather than code for Philogene or his entourage being trouble. It's good for the club if his sale generates a nice profit, good for the team if that helps them buy someone better or more ready what Villa need now, and good for the player if he wants to move on. If this was a 'bad egg' situation then fans would have got wind of it by now, especially for an academy kid. His agent seems to have earned his reputation for being a whopper though, so I wouldn't bet against the hold-up being him spam calling half of Europe in the hope of another offer.
