Right wing options... 09:18 - Jan 28 with 6904 viewsitfcjoe

...bearing in mind we like to recruit in the Championship

Tom Fellows (WBA) - We were allegedly in for him in the summer, U21 so doesn't count against squad cap. England U21 international. Played a fair bit of the left last season (scoring against us) but now an out and out RW who can play all the way up and down that side

Dan James (Leeds) - feels a very good fit to replace Burns, lots of experience both in club and international side. Searing pace, good defensively when he needs to be. Likely very expensive as a key man for Leeds and they won't want to sell, limited upside to fee but probably most ready

Milan van Ewijk (Coventry) - more of a RB than a RW, but again blisteringly quick and decent going forwards. Not masses of output this season, but been ever present for Coventry. Been linked with Galatasaray and Fulham this window so presumably is 'available'.

And a couple from abroad:

Ilay Camara (Standard Liege) - Rapid, decent ball carrier, and eye for a forward pass. Again more FB than winger so may not be right profile

Anan Khalalli (USG) - Similar to Camara but bigger and probably a bit more robust

I’d be gutted to see Dan James here, fast, very little end product.

Can we afford to replace? Without reducing the pot of cash available to sign a number nine (assuming that is still a priority) or maybe a CM?

I dont know the rules, but if we have Ogbene and Burns unavailable and not part of the squad, can we cover that with insurance and therefore use our headroom on a replacement?

I doubt it - he’ll talk a good talk to the press, but when he needs to justify himself on the pitch he’ll simply disappear. Probably end up on loan to an US club.

I was thinking Rees-Mogg. Could he play the old school Whitton role?

The last time we bought a Camara, it was pointed out that the decision wasn't totally focussed and it exposed a weakness in our recruitment.

I'd take Tom Fellows, good age, playing really well and gettable.

Can't see Leeds parting with James and he's pretty much guaranteed PL next season so will be a hard sell.

Fellows was one I wanted in the summer. He's blisteringly quick, young and has that drop of the shoulder mastered better than Wes already.

The only thing against him is he is potentially a little bit light weight when typically KMc has preferred some physicality on that wing.

He seems to have turned corner over last 2 seasons in that regard, his numbers for goals and assists are really good in the minutes he's had in Champ over last couple of seasons.

I actually really like Wimmer who we were linked with – not sure what deal is to be done though, he did come on and score at the weekend.

Looks great apart from maybe a bit lightweight - I feel we need that extra bit of beef in our RW option, but maybe if we have three nippy tricky players behind a bulldozer we can start to overwhelm more physical defences?

Yeah same, was very impressed with him for Austria in the Euros.

Just wonder if we'll go for someone a little more defensive but he has played wing-back and is a big, strong boy.

Best option I've seen yet based just on a few youtube videos! Dribbly, but more physical and unpredictable than Fellows. Buy.

Mentioned Fellows in the summer. Certainly in the profile of the touchline traditional winger to maintain the width on that right side.

In comparison to a Ben Doak, whilst he won't be cheap, can't see it needing £20m to get that done, possibly half of that at £10m.

A couple more names further afield:
- Jamie Leweling (Stuttgart)
- Patrick Wimmer (Wolfsburg)
- Gus Isaksen (Lazio)
Maxi Beier (Dortmund)

All going to be cheaper options than the domestic market.
