...as per a suggestion from someone in the post. Clearly lines were crossed with some of what was posted and unnecessarily so. I'm completely fed up with having to deal with these types of pile-ons from the same users time and again. All long-term users, they've been asked nicely and not so nicely on many occasions in relation to various other posters. Some of it is trolling, some of it just plain bullying. So, what do we do, ban them or ask for them to treat other posters and ourselves with greater respect once again?

All I can say is two things.

1. Don't ever bear grudges. I don't not least because It achieves nothing.

2. And when posting ask yourself this.

The lyrics seem particularly apt for certain threads on TWTD, including the locked one.

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

Yeah, people shouldn’t take the piss out of people for stuff in the past!2!!1!!!

Oh.

People shouldn’t be so sensitive.

I don't have a problem with taking the piss from stupid things people have said or done in the past, but the bangers & mash thing is tedious both in the way it's used (usually as an attempt to discredit any left-wing opinions Dolly has by using it to claim he's a champagne socialist) and because the whole basis of the pisstake is untrue as he didn't spend the amount that is usually cited.

As I said. Your house and your rules. I won’t be sneaking back on with silly user manes and Simpson’s gifs or send you abusive PM’s. Good luck in the future. You run a great site and I’m sorry I overstepped the maerk.

For what it’s worth glassers if you are given the boot here, I shall miss you.

You did occasionally love a bit of a kickoff with Dolly but he loved it as well. It was like our very own Phil Mitchell v Ian Beale - lost of little needle here and there but no real hatred. Like a sparring partner.

Take care. And hopefully all is well with your daughter.

I agree that the Dolly vs Glassers ‘feud’ has derailed a number of threads over the years - and there seems to be a relentless need to bait each other which can’t seem to be put to bed.

That aside, I would be sad if either left; as they do add a lot to the board. I understand Phil’s frustration, but I hope Glassers doesn’t go. He’s been super kind to me many times - perhaps he just needs to learn to either apply that kindness to Dolly sometimes, or not engage.

*edit* And sending positive thoughts to you about the scan tomorrow.

Phil, just ban them all. You end up posting this time and again almost on a weekly basis and nothing changes.

Either that or tell people to just stop having these political debates. I know it's a forum which encourages healthy debate on the topic etc, but it ends up making it a cesspit and clearly pileons then carry over to the football section and it's people having a pop at one another.

If people want to discuss politics, they can head on over to a politics forum to do so then.

Yeah, unfortunately is just as bad at times. But I do feel that grudges, that have been made in the general section, end up spilling over to the footy section as well, and egg that part of the forum on to be toxic as well.

I just can't get my head round why people can't be friendly and nice to each other. We're all on here for one reason really, Ipswich Town.

Sometimes I read threads and think, if you two arguing met in real life, you'd probably get on quite well over a pint and some ITFC chat!

It's your hoe your rules and if you think my post warranted a banning then that's fair enough.

I will say however, that I had intended to give Dolly a little light hearted rib tickling about the Bnagers and Mash, buy a suit, w*g box etc. a collection of Dolly's greatest hits. Sounded funny in my head but after sting and reading it back I thought it came over as rather mean spirited, which wasn't my intention.

I t had been u pfor barely a min ute and I edited it to say so. However, Dolly replied to some of the points even though he was aware I had edited them all out, so the whole thing looked bloody silly without my op so I reposted.

I wasn't aware that Dolly's dad is very unwell. How could I be, and once again I deleted the post, apologised for any hurt caused and sent my sympathies.

However, I'll remind you that Eleven years ago, back in the days of the Cameron government and I was the "board Tory", he started a thread with a picture of an old woman in poverty aimed at baiting me. He said "hey Glasssers, how would like this if it was your mum"? I asked him not to use reference my mum as she was seriously ill and didn't have long to live. Most decent people would have apologised and left it there. Instead, Dolly doubled down over five or six posts to the extent that I called him a c**t.

Dolly reported that as abuse and you banned me. Twenty or more posters started a thread to get me reinstated and pointed out that Dolly's thread and subsequent posts were distatestful and it was understandable that I snapped. You took that on board and lifted the ban immediately. My mum died less than a week later.

As I said, I'm sorry Dolly's dad is unwell. How was I to know. But as soon as I read that I apologised and gave my sympathies. I didn't double down on my op.

We all have things going on in the real world that no one knows about. One of my twin daughters is having an MRI scan tomorrow for a suspected brain tumor. At the age of 22 FFS.

I haven't offered that forward and anyone having a pop at me wouldn't know that beforehand. And what my daughter is going through should not be a reason for posters not to take the iss out of me for some daft things I may have said in the past as I did with Dolly. It's irrelevant to anything that is discussed on here.
[Post edited 5 Feb 14:48]

I have no recollection of that at all... but then if it was 11 years ago it's not surprising. And this is part of your problem, literally dragging up stuff from decades ago in some cases.

We've spoken in a friendly way several times in real life (and been Facebook friends) since then, so it seems an odd thing to be bringing up now as if it's someway linked to your post yesterday. It seems very much like the whatabouterry you so often accuse other posters of.

I have no recollection of posting an image of old woman in poverty, or any reference to your mum, or doubling down - so without any memory of it it's difficult for me to comment or even know if you're exaggerating what was said. It does seem weird that Phil would ban you and not me (I've never been banned) and doesn't sound like something I would do, but then I'm a very different person to how I was 11 years ago - so if there's any truth in it I apologise unreservedly.

I was hoping not to get dragged into this anymore, but there we go.

I hope your daughter gets good news from her scan.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Glassers... if you are reading this I wish you and your family well, particularly, at this time, your daughter.

Having said that, and with respect, you appear to be one of the main culprits.

On a thread above you are recycling something which happened eleven years ago. You have held a grievance for ELEVEN F☆CKING YEARS. And you've brought it up on this thread in which Phil is imploring us all to cut out such petty sniping and combative point scoring.

This bit not aimed specifically at Glassers..

I say we ban Phil and Gav and make it a free for all!

In all seriousness though, sometimes threads get derailed and a bit out of hand. People need to remember that the person on the other end of the keyboard is another human being just trying to be their best selves. Text based communication is all too easy to misinterpret, particularly if there’s intended sarcasm.

Glassers I’m sorry to hear about your daughter and wish you and her the best of luck. I know myself how stressful illness and loss of loved ones can be. It’s easy to turn to the message board as a distraction from life but sometimes the stress of it all causes us to post the wrong thing.

FWIW Phil - I personally think you should leave it be in this instance. Both posters have given a fair insight into their original intent and have apologised.

Valid, valid point about grudges.

Someone once described holding a grudge as like carrying a dead dog in a sack over your shoulder. Every time you think of that grudge, you are metaphorically opening up the sack with a rotting carcass in, and smelling, viewing, reminding yourself of something putrid. We would never do that in real, physical terms, because it is so unhealthy, but we often allow ourselves to do it emotionally, which is equally as unhealthy.

"don’t respond if anyone baits you."

Sorry but people quite rightly want to defend themselves if they're misrepresented or have falsehoods posted about them.

You don’t have to abusive to bait someone just post an opinion you know will get a particular poster going, How often do you read a post and think redacted is going to respond to that?

Some people just are though - and at some times more than other times, for various reasons. Telling someone they shouldn’t be so sensitive is like telling them to be taller.

The other option is just to be nice, which everyone can do.

11 years? Pfft, that's nowt.

When I were a young snippet of a lass 25 years ago at the dawn of t'internet, and forums were forrin to me, I thought they ran on conventional politenesss, so when I left a debate for the first time, said "bye bye for now, I'm orf to walk the dog before it gets dark".

Picked up by a couple of posters, & run with by them + couple of others ever since that I'm "running away" aka "gone to 'walk the dog' " if I don't reply within a nano-second (OK, slight exaggration, 10 minutes ...) in hot debates.

Could the situation be made easier by firming up the banning criteria among these same old faces? One person's personal abuse may be interpreted as another's light-hearted horseplay or similar, which perhaps leads to more opportunities than ought to be granted. It leaves you in the uncomfortable position of needing to exercise your discretion or "choose sides".

If it were decided that those you've previously talked to can no longer write about each other's personal or posting history on here, you wouldn't need to worry about judging whether such instances were playful or spiteful going forward. It could become simply an objective foul with a mandatory suspension period. Or would that spoil all the banter? Don't wish to be a killjoy!

Unfortunately there isn’t an easy solution for Phil to adopt.

If for example it was decided that a yellow card would appear next to a users name, when they posted, we all know they would become a target.

Wonder if a short term posting curfew might work.
