£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 12:19 - Feb 13 by SmithersJones | There’s probably a sell on clause if we sell to anyone else, so selling to City for £40m is likely to be the same as selling to someone else for £45m - £50m, which is not far off what he’d fetch in an open market (especially if we get relegated). So while it’s a bit short of what we’d like, it’s not the worst deal in the world for us. |
In an open market, it would be in excess of £75m. You can use Duran, Hojland, Solanke, Nkunku as a reference point for that, and Delap is better than all of those players mentioned.
£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 12:44 - Feb 13 with 1530 views | JakeITFC | Don’t think that’s awful news personally - at that level it starts to introduce risk of them not being able to shift him on and so they probably won’t get involved. Think we can probably expect him to go to one of Chelsea or Man United for somewhere in the region of £50-60m.

I think delaps going to be a top player. But I may be the only one who thinks the media have overblown his performances this season.

Love Delap and he's having a good season But 23 pl games and 9 goals does not make him better than Solanke who has far more PL experience and a far better return last season, and Duran whose mpg this season was ridiculous! I'll give you Hojland though!

£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 12:54 - Feb 13 with 1432 views | MattinLondon | Sort of off/topic, even if that source correct, if Delap doesn’t want to go back to Man City then surly any buyback clause is irrelevant? If they don’t make the Champions League and are knocked out by Real Madrid, then they won’t be as attractive an option as what they were at the start of this season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That would likely lead to Haaland being saved for the Prem and Delap being used regularly in the Europa League and off the bench in the Prem. Still a much better option than us even if we do stay up. Especially with tens of thousands more in wages per month.

£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 12:57 - Feb 13 with 1371 views | Smoresy | Disappointing as this would be (unable to read article), £40m is a higher number than I feared it could be. Yes City's sell-on clause is 20% Smithers, so equivalent to a £50m sale to another club.

For a 21/22 year old, he's been very good. It's his first season in the Prem playing as a number 9 starting every week. He wasn't a big money signing for the league in comparison to fees for other strikers. I think the media have merited his performances this season fairly and he's definitely put in some good performances against some top defenders - Spurs away for example, I thought he bullied Romero who's a bully himself. That being said, I do think he's got work to do to break into the top bracket. He's had no joy against the best CB's in this league and I thought the standout defender who kept him quiet the most in a more evenly contested game was Zabarnyi from Bournemouth - who's 22 himself. It's unfair to compare him against a Van Dijk recently when Liverpool were levels above all over the pitch.

It took Solanke 75 games to score 9 premier league goals at Bournemouth when he was slightly older than Delap. He had one good season last year and went for 65 million at the age of 27. His ceiling is far higher than Solanke and therefore £75 plus is not anywhere near unreasonable. Duran does have a great goal scoring record, but he doesn't offer as much as Delap in all round play.

That’s a good point but that’s assuming Delap wants to go back to them and that they’ll be in next seasons Europa League. If other clubs come in for him then they might be more of an attractive proposition.

I think it'll be Chelsea. City will just buy him back and then loan to Chelsea with obligation to buy for £65m+.

£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 13:13 - Feb 13 with 1188 views | Dennyx4 | Man City also had a buy back clause for Douglas Luiz, but didn’t take the option up. An Aston Villa supporter who presents on SSN stated this during the transfer window. Interestingly, they could have utilised the buy back and made a profit on the sale Villa made. The Villa journalist also stated that there was two specific windows, that the buy back clause could be used, which may have been why we were confident, that he was going to stay in January. If £40m is true, it is the equivalent of a £50m sale for us(20% sell on) so not too shabby really. I am still not convinced that he will go back to City, but time will tell. I would also assume, that we haven’t paid the full £20m yet, as some / most will be related to us staying up.

£40m straight buy back for Delap…. on 12:06 - Feb 13 by J2BLUE | I don't believe that. If it's true then City will 100% re-sign him and then immediately sell him on/loan him out. I really don't think Ashton would agree to that. |
Isn't it the case that Southampton already agreed terms and we had to match them? So not sure we had much negotiation in this at all.
