defender does nothing wrong.

Terrible body position, sticks out a loose leg makes contact with a striker through on goal. Should be a red card all day long. Much more contact than the scenario Jota got his penalty for earlier in the year.

It's almost like the defender was expecting him to continue to run normally rather than wave his leg out searching for contact...

That’s never ever a foul. His decision making really isn’t at the level some think it is at times.

Honestly. He's 43% the reason we are in with a chance of safety but also 50% the reason imo we are facing relegation.

The more games he's played the worst he seems to becoming. Kinda like greaves.

Not sure £80 mil....but to be fair he is different gravy. Very few players who can just go away from people like Delap does. And his size and power. Frightening potential.

He’s absolutely quality, no doubt about it. Has just about every attribute to be a top centre forward for many years, he’ll get a big move in the summer and rightly so.

Never a foul tonight though, he was looking for it.

...what?

Was trying to think of a way of describing it.. obviously not very well lol.

He's scored 43% of our goals. So he's clearly an important aspect from that for why we are still in with a chance of staying up.

But.... I still stand by our team looks worse with him in it whilst he's developing and we are trying to achieve results. His diving, non passing, non channel running, only interested in battering past players is a big cause for me on why we struggle to win games and therefore a reason why we are facing relegation.

Hope that makes sense. I know what I'm trying to say just finding the right way to explain it.

I’m assuming the other 50% is made up of

- whoever sanctioned the Muric signing
- whoever didn’t get a third striker over the line
- consistently poor mistakes in defence
- having a weak CM
- not having physically strong players

If Delap accounts for 50% of the reason…?!

Personally don't think it is. But hey that's football.

I just hope KM tries hirst in the prem rather than continuing the one man show as we continue to not win games.

I like delap and I think if we were an established prem club I'd feel different as the players around him would then be of the quality to get the best out of him in every game. But we aren't and we don't and we don't see the best of the other players. So for me. Let's go back to what got KM in the prem.. a forward who works the channels and also works with the players around him.

I think this is narrative driven.

Hirst didn't really bring others into the game tonight or make us more fluid going forward, in fact in the first half we barely went forward and didn't have many shots if any.

The reason for this is because it's difficult in the PL to do that, especially without midfield support.

I don't think there is really any evidence that we are a better PL team with Hirst instead of Delap and given how Delap has done I think it's very harsh that you and some others keep pinning our poor results on him.

That doesn't mean that Hirst isn't a good player and he will definitely have a role to play but the posts piling on Delap aren't accurate and are unfair.

Evening sb

I highly rate delap and he's gonna be an absolute worldy of a striker and as I said if we were in the prem 2 or 3 years now from now he'd be that striker you'd want.

But we haven't played with a delap for the past two seasons. We haven't relied on a striker to score all our goals. What we have seen this season however no matter what outfield players play our results haven't improved and the general play in that final third hasn't either. What has happened however is delap has seemingly begun to dive more. Hold the ball up to often and not feeding his team mates and he's not making runs for either our defenders or midfielders to find behind the defensive lines. It's all very much the same thing each game. Find delap and he will run with the ball. Sometimes he'll make it past a player but alot of the time he will run into them.

You've mentioned your favoured evidence word again. No there isn't any. And I've not said there is about hirst playing in the prem. It's what I'd like to see tried to SEE if it would make a difference

At the end of the day KM has tried many different players. But that's the one position he has not tried to change. I'd rather go down and see that it didn't make a difference rather than go down and wonder what if.

I don't think people are piling in on delap. Its just especially lately he hasn't looked great.

No, just don't think he dives. He's physical and throws himself about but I don't think he deliberately goes to ground.

Thanks for the judgement though.

He deliberately left his leg hanging last night so it made contact with the defender, and didn't exactly make a huge effort to stay on his feet. That's as good as deliberately going to ground, no?

The play acting is arguably worse. He's becoming a bit of a joke figure with opposition fans (I know it's kind of nice to have a pantomime villain in our team), going down clutching his shin every time, then gingerly getting back to his feet. It's bad, just wish more people would admit it.

tbf, soft penalties for Delap are pretty much the only marginal decisions that have gone our way all season and earned us nearly a quarter of our current point total.

Looked like contact on the replay!

Indeed, think it was a deliberate attempt to trip him before he got in the area. Kieran and Conor Townsend both convinced it was a foul afterwards.

I thought it was certainly what constitutes as a foul these days in the top flight. You see them given all the time, often against us.

I think a lot of people were watching Morato and upper body contact but Murillo tripped him.

From memory it was a very similar trip to the pen we conceded at the City Ground earlier in the season.

I previously thought Delap manufactured the situation and he got what he deserved - but I have just had another look. Delap may have had his trailing leg in an odd place, but the centre back had absolutely no need to have his leg there dangling - he was waving it there and caught delap. These things happen super quickly but Murillo’s position is as unnatural as Delaps.

I think it’s a pen
