Thoughts on Player of the Season on 12:54 - Mar 30 with 2209 views | TractorFrog | I would go with O’Shea, as I think there’s a good argument for bringing in Hirst for Delap right now but couldn’t justify dropping O’Shea at any point this season. Tuanzebe might have had a good chance had he not been injured so much.
| They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all! | Poll: | Who should start in CM with Cajuste? |

Someone let us down. | | | |
Thoughts on Player of the Season on 13:30 - Mar 30 with 2014 views | BarcaBlue | Woolfenden for me. O'Shea has been pretty solid without being really standout. I expect it to be Delap and that's fair enough. Honourable mentions to Cajuste and Omari who have both been trying to get us move forward under difficult circumstances.

Or based on the fact he has scored double figure goals in a team that is going to be comfortably relagated

Thoughts on Player of the Season on 13:44 - Mar 30 with 1943 views | gsoly | Delap by a stretch. For me, Cajuste is a very good player - but I don't think he's had anywhere near the impact on the team/season that Delap has.

Interesting, I’d be curious to your justification for Woolfenden ahead of other more obvious candidates.

It’ll be Delap for sure and others ranked higher than Woolfie. But I’d say that Woolfenden is one of a very few who have looked composed and PL quality this season. On the flip side, Delap has looked clumsy and inconsistent at times - as he should being so young - but Woolfenden has been very assured when he’s come in. He won’t be anywhere near POTY though.

Not that unusual. Carlton Morris and Adebayo at Luton last year, Harvey Barnes and Morrison at Leicester, Rodrigo at Leeds the year before etc.

Here’s a controversial thought, if we had not signed Delap and gone with Hirst as the starting forward player, with AN Other as backup, would we have maybe done better this season. Has Delap made us a more one dimensional attacking team lacking the ability to bring our other attacking midfield players into the game . . . ?

One problem with this line of thinking is that Hirst has spent a massive chunk of the season injured so we'd have been relying heavily on whoever we signed as a back up.

True, and it’s ridiculously hypothetical but I have been thinking about this a lot this season when I watch delap run down dead ends or slip over trying to muscle past a player. He’s a huge talent but I do think we lose a key aspect of the way we have attacked for the last 2 seasons when he plays *but* also realise he gives us an attacking type of threat we haven’t had. It’s all ifs buts and maybes.

The thing with Delap is that his performances have been about far more than the goals and yet now its his goal record thats constantly referred to because his performances have dropped off a bit. But the goal record actually further demonstrates that drop off. I dont think hes been anywhere near as effective since January as he had been prior to that. You can put that down to the performances of the team generally dropping off a bit, maybe the changes to the starting line-up, but his awareness of the players around him and his decision making have started to become more obvious. Since he scored at Spurs, hes only actually scored 2 open play goals in 17 PL games, compared to 6 in 9 before that.
