Spot on, this is why our team spirit has disappeared, I think sadly this the only the start, I fear many more will follow.
Why would he stay not knowing if he's going to be a starter in the Championship when he's one of the few players to say they have performed to potential when given the chance this year.
Fair play to Cam, I thought when we went up from L1 that would be it for him but he's improved hugely season on season and if for whatever reason the management don't want him, he's earned the right to a good move. Good luck to the big man and thanks. |

Thanks to his hard work and being at the right club at the right time with the right manager he’s gone from washing around with Accrington, Salford, Oldham etc up to the age of 25/26 to playing 13 times in the Premier League, two promotions and playing for Australia.
Well done him, Cook for picking him up for £750k, McKenna for making him a better player and the club for giving him probably the best years of his career. I don’t think Burgess owes ITFC anything or visa versa.
He is a good, brave player and I’ll be sad to see him go. In terms of the future, in my view Greaves is a better player with a lot more potential, given he’s still only 24, if you are looking at one or the other. Burgess needs to be playing at his age and Spain sounds a great opportunity for him. Girona is a bit of a dump but the area around it is lovely, if you avoid the Costas.
So should we have offered CB another contract? Yes. But maybe we did. Who knows and without knowing it isn’t fair to beat the club with that particular stick - but people will as there’s a lot of disappointment, blame and hatred out there at the moment.

Precisely. I don't think either Burgess or the club has let the other down. His ability, fitness and willingness to learn has shone through with the number of games he has played at ever-higher levels over the last two seasons with strong competition for his place from Edmundson and Greaves.
Will be sad to see him go (and it may not improve our chances of rapid re-promotion), but can understand why he may want to take a possible opportunity to play at the top level abroad at this stage in his career. |  |

Burgess has actually made 16 appearances in the Premier League according to Pride of Anglia so even if there was such a thing as ‘fair chance’ in football (there isn’t any more than there is in life really), he’s had a good crack at it.

Obviously you must be in the know and that the club have not had any form of conversation about how Burgess sees his future and what his plans are.
I think it is far more likely that with the club unsure of next season league status until the last few weeks, they have discussed what Burgess wants to do and have left it open either way as he may want options. He is seemingly in demand to play at a European club so is probably weigh up the options; Championship football at Ipswich or La Liga at Girona. Not to mention the fact that considering he will be 30 in October this is one of his last chances to land a good contract for 2-3 years so Girona can probably offer him a better contract than we can currently.

I’ve been to it loads of times. Even crashed a car there (the speeding ticket was curtesy of Barcelona and was a typical Spanish tourist rip off.

We obviously don't know the details, so everything would be just speculation as to whether we have tried to keep him, whether we haven't etc.
What I would say, what a player he has been for us, at times underrated, but so often an absolute dependable rock for us.
I would also say a brilliant opportunity for him, to go an experience something different, for a good club, playing in a good league, play at some iconic stadiums, in a beautiful city.

I suppose we’ll never know the ins and outs of what has and hasn’t been offered, but if you look at it from his perspective, he’s 29, and soon to be 30 (in October) once the new season kicks off, so more than likely this might be his last ‘big’ contract, on what you’d expect to be a 3 year deal.
They’re 6 points clear of the relegation spots with 8 to play, but not forgetting they finished 3rd last season. So go to Spain and come up against the likes of Mbappe, Bellingham and Lewandowski - all whilst basking in the sunshine - or slog it out here in the Championship. | |

Indeed. My point being L1/L2/Conference was the level at which Burgess had been playing for several years (about a third of an expected professional football career) before joining Ipswich catapaulted him - and us - to the highest level.
In many ways, Burgess is an example of the much-prized (and often mythical) "lower-division hidden gem". Someone who proved his range could be expanded to the very top. He was actually a few months older when we signed him than the age at which Vardy was picked up by Leicester. | |
