Any guesses on Wardley attendance at PR? 23:07 - Apr 8 with 4474 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Had a Quick Look earlier and seems like big parts of the stadium not on sale yet (as assuming they haven’t sold out already). Also noticed they’ve lifted the limit on how many tickets ST holders can buy and opened ups. Family section. Makes me think that they aren’t selling like hot cakes?

I know it’s not related, but I wonder if more tickets would’ve been sold if we were more successf in the field this season?

I think he needed a more well known and better opponent to have more interest. Someone like Derek Chisora, Zhang or Wilder. I think Frank Warren will have to come up with a good undercard to boost the attendance.
Someone like Chris Billam Smith, was fighting for a world title at his football teams ground, and that was Bournemouth, which is far smaller than FPR.
I can see some carefully crafted seating and tv camera angles to make it look full at the moment.

Bout 20 years ago, Ricky Hatton was fighting at Sheffield Arena against little known Carlos Maussa, unifying Ricky's newly won IBF light-welterweight title with Maussa's WBA.

I was at Hull Uni at the time, and whilst perusing a random boxing forum found a link to a competition to win two tickets. Entered and didnt think much else of it. Won the tickets, what luck! Only to go back on forum to find seemingly everyone that had entered had won. Oh, a scam me thinks, great.

It was only a short drive to test the theory (though we broke down at Donny en route), so off we went to Sheffield in my mate's yellow cinquecento.

Got to the box office and they were legit! Great seats too, facing the hard cam at mid level. Turns out the cheap seats and ringside had sold out, but midddle was empty so they papered the house to look full on tv.

Nothing really to do with anything, but memory nudged so thought I'd share. Don't get many adventures like that anymore.

Ricky wins with KO in round 9 btw...

More tickets would be sold if the prices were lower.

It's simple economics and lack of interest

It's odd, because after his pitch invasion you would think he would be banned from Portman Road.

I’ve always wanted to go to boxing at PR, been to many fights at The O2, Wembley, Spurs so I’m very much the target audience.

I don’t feel great at paying minimum £65 for a Wardley vs Jarrell Miller headline fight, it’s a rubbish fight.

To be fair to Fabio, his first fight against Clarke was a rollercoaster, and the second an incredibly impressive performance.

And Miller has a decent professional record, with only one loss, to Dubois, who is a World.Champion (although it is not too controversial to argue that he is a second tier World Champion).

Wardley v Miller is kind of Crystal Palace v Aston Villa, in terms of appeal to boxing fans. Not a top of the table, title on the line, six-pointer, but a very credible next-level down match-up. And sometimes they produce one of the fights of the year.

It feels more like an arena fight to me, though. Miller wearing a Scum shirt isn't going to sell an extra 15,000 tickets.

I've bought a few tickets, but I'm slightly worried about timings. I'll need to get back to London after the fight, and the last train is 22.43, so may be sacking it off.

Have they announced the full card yet? That would either help or hinder ticket sales

I don't think it's sold too badly so far, personally. Most of the Cobbold upper blocks are selling well, as are the North Stand blocks. Even the West Stand has sold pretty well apart from the far corners.

Getting those floor tickets sold will be the biggest challenge, as there's clearly been feck all appetite for those from local fans - understandably so given the price tag of those.

Tickets haven't even gone on general sale yet so a bit early to be saying there's a lack of interest. Not all football fans are into boxing and not all boxing fans are into football. £53 for the cheapest tickets isn't that bad for boxing, the even will last for a good 4 hours with several fights taking place so it's not bad value when you think what people pay to watch 90 minutes of football.

We took 4 floor tickets at £100 each.

I have one as do all my mates. My son in law (non season ticket) just bought two but couldn't get two together in side stand so had to go to North.

At least 25000. Likely a near sell out in the end.

We're only at stage one of the boxing hype train. Once a reasonable undercard is added, some more WWE style dramatics are planned, maybe another local fighter who is a town fan is added to the card and maybe even something with Ed Sheeran singing a few songs it will eventually sell out or very close to it, IMO.

Truly impaired.

Agreed. And if it does hit 25,000, that's a great job done for Wardley. Similar figures to selling out the 02 Arena - with the added bonus of it being on his hometown patch.

Yes and good luck to him.

He gets some stick but his only crime as far as I can see if taking advantage of opportunities that come his way due to his profile. Like 99% of other well know people.

Truly impaired.

I didn’t think £50 was too bad for an international standard fight, so I was happy to pay that accepting the view would be rubbish just to be there to experience the event. But, as you say, £300 for a pitch seat is another matter entirely

If you're talking about VU3, I don't think the view will be rubbish there at all. Far from it, in fact.

I've been to three fights before and twice on floor/pitch seats. The views are pretty poor and no comparison in terms of value.

This is a pretty good opponent for him to be honest. Had a 12 round draw with Ruiz last summer (which he arguably won). The right step up considering his progression.

It's a better fight than v Delboy and you can sell the UK v US part of it as well.

I am not sure Ipswich can sell the stadium out for this though our fanbase has so many families etc. Maybe if a load of from Essex fancy an early summer night out it will get there.

Most of the North Stand has sold and there's good numbers being sold in the West and Cobbold Stands. It's just the floor seats that aren't shifting at all, really. And understandably so.

You should have a look at what they want to charge for hospitality (!)
