I'm actually quite looking forward to the Championship.

I much prefer the more rustic, older, smaller grounds. I like the more traditional stuff and not fighting past the tourists with their half and half scarves.

The thought of going to Hillsborough, the Kassam, the Hawthornes etc is much more appealing than any of the soulless bowls in the EPL.

Change my mind...

I am looking forward to football without robotic predictability and every foul being a yellow card.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I rewatched Ipswich vs Sheffield Wednesday from last year, the 6-0 thrashing. It was so much more entertaining than any Premier League game and I was trying to work out why.

Firstly, Ipswich were the dominant team. That can't be ignored. But it still seemed more entertaining than the Arsenal game would have been for them.

Our style of play last season was particularly special. The passing out from the back and trying to retain possession, while also having the CBs and CMs spraying balls out to the wings was so exciting. I really hope McKenna sets us up the same way next season.

The lower quality of the teams meant there were more genuine chances on goal that were missed, rather than in the Premier League where it feels like defenders are so good that a real goal-scoring opportunity is rare, and players really have to capitalise on every one. In this game, there were multiple opportunities, including for Sheffield Wednesday, to score that were just fluffed, and that makes for more entertaining football. This is also the reason why shock scorelines are more likely in the championship, because a game can be affected more by random moments.Meanwhile, skilful players like Hutchinson and Broadhead could sometimes just beat their man and create a chance from it where Premier League players are largely just too good to allow even the best to do that to them.

And to me, nothing kills off the excitement of a football game more than it being stopped again and again because of the ball going out of play, or particularly because of fouls. The amount of football played in that game seemed like so much closer to 90 minutes than in any Premier League games. It is easy to point at referees and VAR but it didn't feel like the refs were letting things go, it was more that the players just had a different attitude and preferred to keep play going.

Obviously last season was as good as it ever gets as a football fan, but some of these things apply even to an average championship season. It is just a more interesting league. But the Premier League is also special because the excitement of winning a Premier League game against someone like Chelsea is far more special than beating Sheffield Wednesday because it's such an achievement. The championship is better football, but I think you have to want to be in the Premier League because if you are not hoping to win the championship because you don't like the reward then that ruins the excitement of that league. But in the long term, I would much rather be a yo-yo club than a consistent Premier League team.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

I’ll head to the man cave watch the games and mess around with the guitars at the same time whilst she watches her own crap

Beautiful

For the record , she thinks the same

I get it. But bloody hell it's ironic that for so long our club was criticised (as others are) for performing badly and not being able to competing with those at the top, and in the end people don't actually want that to happen anyway!

It seems there's a real sweet spot in terms of where some fans of some clubs want them to be.

- No one wants to be floating around mid table in the Championship = beyond boring.

- No one wants to be fighting against relegation to L1 = embarrassing

- Challenging for but ultimately missing out on Championship play offs? That also feels quite dull and lacking ambition

- Achieving promotion, either automatically or via the play offs = Fantastic but you're then in the Premier League where you lose more than you win* and you don't like the circus and fake glamour that comes with it

*Some fans seem to have really struggled mentally with that this season it seems, almost as if it was unexpected.

I've no problem with Ipswich being a solid Championship club, that's what we are realistically, but to be honest I'm growing a bit bored of the 'can't wait to be back in the championship' shouts.

The manager we adore so much will be thinking the complete opposite and will want to return there as soon as possible, with or possibly without us, and the players too. We should be wanting our players to be competing against the very best, not settling for watching them in a sub-standard league just because they win more games.

People can feel how they want though, that's just my feeling on it. And I can't argue with the point about the grounds in the Championship to be fair.

Kick off times will be all over the place, due to Sky.lots of 12:30 ko's

Loads of teams will turn up and just park the bus at Portman Rd, there will be some really really dire games to sit through on a cold Tuesday night in winter.

There will be loads more time wasting by players

The officials will be even worse at their jobs than the Prem lot.

You'll be surrounded by fans who will get upset if we aren't top of the league and winning every game.

People will still complain about getting away tickets, with smaller grounds and smaller allocations.

And the last time we got relegated to the Championship it took 22 years to get promoted back up again and there was alot of bad Championship football we suffered in those years

Lose more than you win was expected. Lose at home 12 times as many as you win? SKMc has taken things to an unprecedented level in our history.

I was there when McKenna's ITFC won in the Premier League at Home.

With the amount of moved Kick off times and early Saturday games I am looking forward to it less.

I want Ipswich to be the best they can be and ultimately be a club that can push on and challenge the top half of the Prem. To do that we need to be in the Prem. So I wouldn't say I'm that excited.

‘Soulless bowls’ has to be one of the most overused phrases which doesn’t actually mean anything. Hillsbrough is an absolute dump, the Kassam is s**t …I do like the Hawthorns though.

I get very suspicious of people saying they prefer the Championship. Is that really true, or just an overreaction to having a bad season? Did you prefer the Championship during the boring ME years and relegation? Or was it just last year? The PL would probably be enjoyable if we were doing unexpectedly well like Forest or Newcastle.

Even with it being almost impossible for a casual attendee like myself to get tickets, I still think I’d rather be in the PL. Obviously it’s not enjoyable at the bottom. Burley’s first season was good fun though. Imagine if we were challenging for European Cup places - I suspect that’s more interesting than Oxford away.

I think what trumps all other wishes is 'I wish we could win a few more games'. That doesn't mean 'I wish we were in The Championship' per se, but realistically that is the easiest way to get that wish.

I would blooming love it if we repeated 23/24 (but not automatically expecting it). If that means we then have another season of struggle, so be it. Although I'd like to think we'd win more than 1 (at the time of writing) home game if we did do the Prem again in 26/27.

I'm also looking forward to next season, and would do so regardless of what division we're in.

And there are aspects to life in the Championship that are preferable. Winning games, for starters.

But I see the charms of the Championship as a silver lining rather than evidence that we're better off being down there than up here.

It's a rare treat to dine at the top table. Hopefully we can return at the first time of asking, and make the treat less rare (if not the steak served at the top table).

We'll be in a better position next time round (subject to the important caveat that we may well not have the same manager :/)

I might be in the minority here but I'd much rather watch us in the Premier League than the Championship - regardless of the result.

Growing up it was wanting to watch Ipswich at the iconic stadiums. Old Trafford, Anfield, The Emirates, Goodison Park etc. I'm fortunate that I've been able to do so. When we dropped to L1, it was interesting going to the smaller grounds. You appreciate the size of these clubs and how they're run and with limited funding compared to the scale of money chucked around in the PL, but the quality of football is obviously not as good lower down the pyramid.

This season I've seen some of the best players in the world. This is what I want to see every week, Ipswich vs the best in the world.

Sure we will win more games in the Championship, but nothing beats watching your side play at the best in iconic stadiums in the most popular league in the world. I want to experience it again and hopefully we can get promoted back to the PL.

That's just my opinion though.

Supporting Town for 40years and I will always prefer to be in top league and even though it’s been hard this season I really can’t understand why anybody is happy to be relegated and go down a level.
You can’t beat the buzz, the excitement and coverage the premier league gets plus having players like Delap playing for Ipswich.

So what do you do then go and lose a few next season , get a few draws mixed in with some wins so we don’t make the stress and misery of the playoffs and don’t get promoted again.

Maybe it's not wanting to go down necessarily. We just got promoted a bit quicker than we were probably ready for.
If we go up next year maybe we will have a better foundation than this time. We will certainly know what to expect and what is needed. Less lightweight trick wingers and more battle hardened midfield/ defenders.
Being competitive in the Prem' will then become a better experience than what we have this year.
Take this week's game at Newcastle. With the remaining squad available all I am hoping for is not to get smashed. Yeah we may get a miracle result but it's more likely I will spend ninety minutes wishing the game away so as to keep the score down.

Try as hard as possible and get promoted .
That's what I wish for next season. It's not complicated.

I don't know how the 'be careful' has any relevance.
