It was games like those Palace and Brighton ones where we couldn't lay a glove on them that really brought it home. Chelsea sparked things up and we all know the margins of Fulham away. Southampton at home was when I was resigned to it. Wolves at home was really switching the life support machine off. [Post edited 26 Apr 17:20]

Me too. If you can’t beat them on your own patch, you quite frankly don’t deserve to stay up.

Jesus we were poor that day. I'm pretty sure Morsy's goal was one of our few efforts on goal.

Yeah. Didn't want to feel this way as it's not really how things work but it was a bit 'well if we can't even beat *them*'...

When did you lose faith in survival? on 17:21 - Apr 26 with 2153 views | pointofblue | When I actually lost faith was Southampton at home. In hindsight, it should have been how we collapsed after going 1-0 down against Brighton, despite being in a game up to the moment they scored. We never recovered from that. But in truth, we were down in the summer. We repeat Hurst's trick from 2018/19 - sign some good players from a lower level and expect them to good enough. We know how that worked back then, and history has simply repeated itself at a higher level.

West Ham scored after 90 seconds didn't they? And we scored with our only effort didn't we. IIRC, our fans starting leaving at 35 minutes?!

We were level after 5, kept the ball well, had a couple of chances, West Ham barely in it until our keeper decided to invite pressure on

When did you lose faith in survival? on 17:48 - Apr 26 with 1942 views | PioneerBlue | I started to be concerned the league was going to be very much harder than hoped around that Oct Nov time, 10 games between about Villa and Newcastle where we hopped to secure more points than we did, giving up games where we’d done enough. It was a massive uphill from there onwards with a little uptick after the Chelsea win but we could never get a good run of games or results following that.

That's probably when Southampton also thought "We're down".
When did you lose faith in survival? on 17:59 - Apr 26 with 1838 views | burnbudgiesburn | It wasn't instant for me, but gradual realisation we may be cooked. First half of the season I felt we had competed and had been unlucky a lot of the time and deserved a bigger points total than we had. But for me it was just the gradual build up of non results/points gathered from the must win/winnable games against our rivals. I think that's my biggest dissapointment, we just didn't pull any of those off against the lesser teams. Can't fault our effort this season. The gap was just bigger than even I realised and I had expected it to be big to begin with.

The difference being we kept all bar Hladky of the side that played the most games the previous season on the staff. I think people are still underestimating how hard it was to attract top players to a side 95% of people (correctly) expected to be relegated.

When did you lose faith in survival? on 18:09 - Apr 26 with 1667 views | DublinBlue84 | West Ham away I didn't see as I was on a Ferry at the time (only match I haven't seen one way or another), but the performance didn't sound great but I comforted myself it was probably just a one off and still early in the season. When we lost to Bournemouth and Palace at home within a week I was concerned, but after we beat Wolves and then Chelsea it reinvigorated my hope a little bit. I was convinced the second half of the season we'd score more points than the first half at that point. However losing to Southampton at home it felt like for me that we were in huge trouble and I was 99% certain we'd go down. Beating Bournemouth made me think it would require a miracle but maybe there was a very very small chance if we beat Wolves but the defeat to Wolves was the end for me. We were relegated once and for all that day. [Post edited 26 Apr 18:12]

When did you lose faith in survival? on 18:24 - Apr 26 with 1542 views | MVBlue | Losing to Bournemouth at home and Palace at home was when the fear started. Getting smashed 6-nil by Man City AT HOME was not good and despite it being accepted the manor of the defeat and general acceptance was not for me. Then losing at home to Southampton was when it was lokely and losing at home to Wolves confirmed it. But we got some good draws and wins and have given ourselves a name as a team with exciting players that can't defend that well.
