Hmmm… 13:56 - May 23 with 2435 views | SitfcB | Not sure why but Delap having talks etc before the season is over doesn’t sit quite right with me, just feels weird. Appreciate there’s loads and loads of interest and needs a lot of time to be sorted etc Feels a bit, can’t wait to get out of here, if you know what I mean, like he’s not even considered staying. Hmmm… on 14:53 - May 23 by ArnieM | I think his head was turned as far bavk as January because hes not really been the same over the second half if the season. Understandable in some ways. But I am disappointed that's he's prepared to jump ship after one season. It'll be what it'll be..... |
Disagree fully on this - if it had just been Delap not performing well then maybe, but the whole squad haven't had their "head turned" have they? As for "jumping ship" - he has the opportunity to play Champions League football at one of the top clubs in England, and he would be mad to turn it down - as he may never have the same opportunity and choice again. He's continued to give 100%, not seen any evidence to the contrary. Good luck to him and thanks for the season as far as I am concerned.

Hmmm… on 15:22 - May 23 by burnbudgiesburn | Depends how much we paid upfront, and how many years we split the cost over. We would have had a 15m loss I dont think, more like 3-4m But it still helps |
Yes, true, with amortisation it'd only be £3m (5yr contract). But that's still a £15m swing on the 2024/25 balance sheet that may allow £15m to be spent elsewhere on the team.
Hmmm… on 15:50 - May 23 with 384 views | The_Flashing_Smile | This stuff probably goes on all the time, the club have just been honest about it (and as others have said, it's in our interests to get it done quickly as well, for FFP and our own transfer dealing).
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Hmmm… on 17:03 - May 23 with 320 views | dirtyboy | When we were confirmed relegated, he probably had it in his clause he could speak then, so it's fair enough. If not, it's nice that the club haven't looked to stand in his way or played hard ball, means players are respected by the club, makes us a more attractive destination. Get the money in asap, before June as mentioned and gives more FFP headroom which is going to be vital. Delap gets with new team asap which benefits him which is a good thing, they're still people, even though viewed mostly as assets. Nice to make a profit on a player which doesn't feel like it has happened for a long time and no need to bring up the value, nothing we can do about it, other than hope he scores loads for his next club and then goes to Real Madrid next year for £120m and we get a sell on lol!
Hmmm… on 17:04 - May 23 with 328 views | PhilTWTD | All parties want the deal done and dusted asap for a variety of reasons. No point in dragging it out when the season's over from a competitive perspective.

Wonder if that’s why we’ve seen more of GH starting

Hmmm… on 17:13 - May 23 with 301 views | burnbudgiesburn | I understand the £30m release clause is well known, but have seen no mention of how much of that is upfront and what sort of sell on is included in that. You would imagine that sort of thing has been pre-included in the clause a club must reach.

If it was just down to FFP (and if we had any say in the matter) we might prefer to leave it til after 30 June. FFP is done on a rolling three year basis so if we’re ok without the Delap sale money for the period July 22 to June 25 then putting into the 25/26 season may help us three years down the line particularly as the limits are much lower for seasons in the Championship. The club should know at this stage how much headroom we’ve got, but I can’t imagine the buying club will entertain a delay unless it suits their own situation.

Hmmm… on 13:58 - May 23 by BlueBadger | Probably in everyone's interests to be fair - means Delap gets a full preseason with his new club, we're not sitting watching weeks upon end of tedious headlines and can also look to get our replacements in ASAP. |
Quite. If it avoids a drawn out transfer saga all summer I’d drive him to Manchester tonight. It’ll be a shame to see him go, but just it done so we know the deal and can move on to our own targets.

Yeah, yeah I get all that. And want the same, don’t want it dragging. I’m just gutted we only had him for a season. Like Waghorn all over again

There's no loyalty anymore. Its all about the player and what they want. It feels heavily slanted in the player and his agents favour these days, whoever the player is.

There's no loyalty either way. Look at the majority of players who got us promoted - either benchwarmers or moved on on. Luongo being the latest; I have the feeling it's not his choice to leave though am prepared to be corrected. Football is simply a business like any other job.

Well, almost a season. Except for the last 2 games because he’s making sure he’s ok jack 👍

Delap & Hutchinson will be away next week at England U21 training camp for UEFA U 21 final. The competition doesn't end until 28th June far better to get this sorted now rather than in July.

Hmmm… on 19:32 - May 23 with 148 views | itfcsuth | No issues really - in no way has any interest effected his efforts whenever he has been called upon. Best to get that deal done early. Very standard for players to be talking to clubs before the season is over, other players in the club will be doing it, and we will be doing it with other players.

I was about to say similar. If we’re in good shape to work within FFP rules for 22/23 to 24/25 without the sale, then we’re better to have the transaction complete in the 25/26 season. More flexibility to sign players next year, and through to 27/28.
