What are the best simple pleasures?

- hearing & seeing my kids laughing
- beer (ideally in the sun, in a beer garden with some sort of views)
- hearing rain on a tin roof (conservatory is a close 2nd)
- morning coffee on a weekend

Getting back from walking the dogs before breakfast, sitting in the garden with a coffee listening to the birdsong.

The joy of living in the back end of nowhere without neighbours.

Sitting in my garden in the sitooterie looking at the flowers with the chimera blazing, glass of red and talking bollox with the missus.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I just had a pub lunch with my boys for the first time in months. Nothing fancy, but decent pub food and sitting around for an hour was nice.

A coffee when the rest of the house is still sleeping is weirdly enjoyable too.

When you do something right automatically in sport. A reflex save, a well timed body shot, completing a climb in one go are all things that make me smile.

An early doors pint. Good beer, quiet, no music or TV, just me and the crossword.

Early morning cuppa sitting on the porch listening to the birds and watching the rabbits chase each other.

Power washing my deck and siding

Unplanned day drinking

Seeing family.

Rain. Absolutely love it. I want to buy a greenhouse and stick a chair in there just to go and sit in there when it rains.

Coffee.

A good book.

Sitting under a blanket in the autumn with a coffee and a book while heavy rain hits the window.

Seeing happy animals. A dog chasing a ball etc.

Small random acts of kindness.

Seeing Trump arguing with Musk

Getting into a freshly made bed

Town winning

Norwich losing

Going out for breakfast on a day off

Getting a restraining order against Keno approved after he makes a post calling you "that one person who is special"

Waking up in the morning and realising you have no work or going to bed the night before realising you have no work.

Having a clear, blank, worry free mind, sitting in the garden with a Beer doing sweet FA and literally just enjoying the moment.

re-watching on a repeat loop Bryan Guns Air kick before the own goal.

Lying on a beach under an umbrella and splitting my time between reading, listening to music, dozing and getting a bit of sun.

A dog walk anywhere from other people.

Walked from Aldeburgh to thorpness Saturday morning, saw nobody for the bulk of it.

Sounds of the sea, and the gulls flying around.

Either that, or a blowy

Sitting with a beer, by a lake or the sea, an hour til sunset and with the tent set up. Norway's "Right to roam" really is something to treasure.

For me, it's dimming the lights, lighting the ceremonial gherkin, and settling in for a solo round of Zed’s Party - the board game I invented which is now banned by most reputable occult societies. Think Jumanji on acid.

The setup alone takes three hours. By turn two, your furniture rearranges itself into a judging panel and your neighbours start chanting in Flemish. By turn five, you're either crowned Duke of the Infinite Spoons or dragged into a pocket dimension where Alan Titchmarsh narrates your regrets in rhyming couplets.

Last night I beat myself by correctly answering a riddle screamed by a Victorian chimneysweep. I haven’t blinked since.

No, not at the moment

If there are better things in life than walking the dog across the fields or watching my kids do their sports/acting, then I simply haven't found them yet.
