Farewell Bryan 15:37 - Jun 24 with 3550 viewschicoazul

An absolute legend allowed to join The Enemy.
Good luck to him, clearly no longer valued.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

Produced a string of unbelievable players at his peak, but certainly feels like his influence has waned, and whether that's him or something operational, it's hard to know. But it's also hard to say right now whether it's a big loss or not, sentimentality aside.

A shame as part of the Town furniture through the years, but day to day will it change much ? Probably not.

The only Muff in Town.

It's a great shame.

It doesn't exactly stop us in our tracks and remove the optimism that doubtless will grow for the new season, but it's a shame to lose a great servant, and it's a shame to give the Budgies anything to Crow about.

Allowed? Or forced……? (If he does end up there)

We obviously don’t know what’s gone on behind closed doors but it seems strange he put up with years of neglect and asset stripping under Evans and has now decided to leave when we’re pushing for category one. It seems like there’s some decent players in the pipeline as well. Maybe he’s had his nose put out of joint by the new guy who came in from Colchester? Seems like an ‘F you’ to the club which is a shame but we’ve got no idea of how this has come about.

The fact that Woolfenden is the only 1st team regular at the club to come through the acadamy suggests that a change is probably needed.

To be fair, the last few years have seen a number of our better younger players being poached by PL clubs. If they had stayed then they might well have made their debuts for us. So it’s kind of unfair to judge BK on those terms.

Maybe, but what happened to those players - I cannot think of any but probably my memory vs anything else.

And he's not even a 'regular', we've had the best out of Klug, don't wish to sound ageist but football is becoming a younger mans game in terms of coaching and management etc.

He's presumably going back to being head of academy at Norwich(the role he enjoys) and say it quietly, but they have outstanding facilities. We clearly don't run the same way anymore and he hasn't really fit in a while - probably a good move for all parties.

Is it just me who really isn’t bothered?

The Academy has produced very little for years and whilst Evans disinterest in it was undoubtedly the major factor Klug clearly went along with basically treading water. With Cat1 on the horizon time for a fresh start.

It is probably time for a change. Thank you Bryan for all your hard work over many years. To be fair to Evans we did have a strong push for Cat 1 and narrowly failed by a very small margin. In the latter years it was underfunded as first team took all the financial focus and Evans was clearly losing interest in the club.

Yeah, I agree really.

Klug has probably had his hands tied behind his back ever since Evans took over, and the new ownership have focussed on the first team (which is fair enough).

Klug is still living off Wright, Dyer and Bramble really, and that was last century.

Think it's worth pointing out that Bryan hasn't been in charge of the academy for nine years, so not his role to 'go along' with Evans's lack of interest. Despite relative lack of funds, the academy actually was producing players - even if a number of them ended up elsewhere - as well as coaches and other staff - which was part of his remit - prior to the takeover. People like Humphreys, Baggott, Gibbs and Marcelo Flores were all products of that later period, some from the team which reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final.

I suspect the academy’s lack of results has a lot more to do with the footballing ignoramus who used to own us. Everything he touched (or rather ignored) rotted.

It’ll take a while to recover the academy. We’ll be putting new structures in place now that will only bear fruit in 5+ years time. It’s not a bad time for a change, but Bryan’s part of the furniture and it’ll be sad to see him go. Is he the longest serving high-profile employee, could well be?
