On a thirty year old striker. They are really going for it.

In isolation it's an ambitious deal but I wouldn't be fielding a front three of Gray, Stansfield and Kyogo. Absolutely no height in there at all.

They have pretty much unlimited funds, so good for them.

It’s interesting how transfer price inflation has seen prices for even ordinary players rocket.

That's a good signing for the now. Too much for age though

They might have unlimited funds (so do we pretty much) but that doesn't they can spend that. They will have PSR issues if they continue given their 15m spend on one player in league one.

He has a pretty prolific record in the SPL with Celtic, I wouldn’t mind him at Town as a backup to Hirst. 30 years or not, I guarantee you he’s way better than AAH

And our striker drought continues⋯⋯

I'm glad we're playing Brum first game. They're going for it but will need time to gel. Of course I've no idea what starting 11 we'll have but if we go for the most regulars from last season, knowing the system, hitting the ground running we'll have enough to beat them.

But I bet they would prefer an attacking line up of Hirst, Hutchinson, Szmodics, Clarke, Philogene etc. That Birmingham defence won't stand a chance.

It's a risky strategy. They spent something like £35m in league one on players. If they fail to go up this year, there could be a fire sale to meet PSR.

They may be having a gamble. Massive risk for a newly promoted club.

Of course they are spending significant money, and there are obvious risks that come with that.

But on the face of it, they are building a really strong squad - Beadle, Doyle and D.Gray in the last week are good additions, Kyogo for £10m previously heavily linked with Man City. Add that a decent squad already inc. Stansfield, Iwata and more.

They look like they’ll be really strong.

Yup. It’s not a love in for Birmingham because of what they’re spending, it’s just they’re bringing in some very good players. Kyogo was linked with Man City last summer, that’s the level we’re talking.

Fully expect them to be top 6 next season.

Take out Hutchinson, he won't be here. He wants Premier football, Everton is a good bet!

I know people are trying to soften the blow by resigning themselves to it, but let's not sell off Hutchinson before it actually happens. It might not.

Is it risky? Surely, mega wealthy clubs can ignore PSR. Or challenge any ruling or sue the authorities. Or come up with some laughable scam like Villa and Chelsea, submit 13 month accounts like Leicester. There’s all sorts of ways including the good old brown envelope for the toothless old fossils ‘running the game’. And when alls said and done, if they reach the PremierLeague, who cares about fines etc.

I think Birmingham with their dough are going for it and I don’t blame them.

I think where you can get away with a player thirty years old is probably a goalkeeper. As we have seen with the likes of Morsy they get overrun by young guns. If Birmingham gained promotion this striker would be thirty one. His value would probably be less and a replacement would be two or three times as much.
Although we have found to our cost that we need stronger running, athletic, strong types to compete in the Premier league the philosophy of buying players that could develop and would also be worth more was very sensible.
Ultimately the aim has to be to get in the Premier league and stay there because from a Gamechanger point of view that's where their value comes from and development of the ground probably won't happen until we become established which again adds value to any potential buyer.

80% of clubs have done no business or very little business so far in the championship us included.
I'm positive we will get the players in the better the quality the more choice the player has hence why it takes a bit longer to sort.

If the worst happens Hutchinson leaves if speculation is correct it will be 35 million and you get quite a lot for that in this league rather than the Premiership.

I think it's one of the hardest fixtures we could have first up. Brum still have momentum from last season, a full house under lights. I'd take a draw now.

Last season is irrelevant- they’ll have a vastly different team with players going there who have had a bad previous season or are inexperienced.

I always prefer it when we play favourites at the start of the season. I’ve no idea if the stats back up the idea that the better teams can be more vulnerable early on.

I reckon Brum will go well this year. My outside shout for a surprise team will be the Swans over here. They’ve been rubbish for a few years, but the new manager and approach is causing teams problems and they’ve recruited well so far. They’re just a bit weak across their front four positions.

Mega clubs can get away with it.

Clubs like Leicester less so, if you listen to the second tier episode from last week with the football financial expert they could receive two penalties this year now that the PL and EFL have agreed to apply each others points penalties.

League one rules are different. Can spen what you like as long as it was a gift so they should be fine on that front. They can't just spend whatever this season but their chairman suggested they have similar revenue streams to parachute payment clubs which does t sound dodgy at all.
