Off to Austria next week, surely we should have one or two in by then at least.
Season starts in 32 days and we’re now 7 days into the ‘new financial year’ which some were using as an excuse. |  |

We’ve already been active and of course we’ve been waiting for certain now solved puzzles to resolve before making next moves.
Eg what if DOS or Hirsty hadn’t extended we’ve have other work to do
Burg, Axel, probably waiting on a final decision for Cajuste will all have impacted how we interact in the summer window. I’m sure to the extent necessary we will have been working on alternative plans for each of those whether that replacing or not.
Muric and Omari are others we might need solving for better understanding budget and squad numbers.
Lots of moving parts but concern for me only starts when we kick off due to lack of depth in midfield and striker positions. That is some weeks off. |  |

Personally my lack of concern is also supported by the lack of outgoings. I think we need 3 more signings to replace players that have already left (2x CM, 1x ST) and another 2-3 to updgrade on what we already have (RB, CB cover and 3rd striker). I'm expecting one of the CAMs to leave as well - Omari or Broadhead (but not both).
Where I'd start to get concerned is if the number of new signings required, in particular the number of signing to replace players who have already left, starts to increase. I'm not concerned about the signings we have to make today, but if we also need to replace, for example, Johnson, Davis, Morsy, and Ogbene, then I'd like to have seen us do some business before anyone else leaves. | | | |

I'm feeling surprisingly zen about this window. Que sera sera, whatever will be will be.
Might change if we get to one week left and nothing has happened. But for now, calm calm is the game.
As has been said, one solid CM signing and a second striker might be all we need to do the business. Honestly, hanging on to Hutch as well seems as important as any new signing, so this is the one to watch out for for me. I give this last hope 50/50, based on absolutely nothing. |  |

Think that’s my take, would feel a lot happier once we have a striker and CM in for starters as we can if all fit put out a very decent championship team.
The nagging worry is 23/24 when Hirst got injured we had no striker back up and it nearly cost us until we got in Keef, last season the same - Hirst out and only Delap as a prem quality striker with AAH totally out of his depth and possibly playing with an injury. [Post edited 7 Jul 13:37]

I think like many issues on here it's become a bit binary but there's a mid-point for me. I'd like some upgrades in as soon as possible but can understand why that might take longer - if we're targeting players who we think will be able to step up to the Prem then there's likely to be additional interest and/or the player will be seeing what other options there are.
At this stage I'd still rather we took our time and got someone who was an 8 or 9 out of 10 for what we want (ability, potential, team fit, sell-on value,etc) than go for an easy to get 6 or 7 out of 10 now. There probably does come a point where we just need to make things happen fast but I don't think we've reached that yet.
If there were more rumours floating around I think there'd be less worry in general as people could see the sorts of targets we're aiming at. |
I think Ashton has made it quite clear that we're going to be ambitious and, as such, the targets will be very good targets. Given their success so far and the fact that we are probably, well definitely, the optimum Championship club for a quality player who's not quite got a Premiership offer yet, we're in a very strong position.
On the basis of the above, I don't even want to see rumours - the shutting down of the rumour mill over the last few windows has been impressive and a positive.

End of this month I would say. Once the big clubs are back and pre-season tours are coming to an end.
Phil has said the emphasis is on the domestic market once again and therefore we are going to need to wait for them.
I see no point in worrying though. We need max 6 new players or 1 new starter so real Pl or potential PL quality has to be the most important thing. If that means we have to wait until the end of the window then so be it. |
