That has made me angry now.
Just been on the pink thingy. I know I should n't but I did.

One poster has just said that winning the UEFA Cup was equivalent of the Europa Conference. Really, only little wit can explain them.

For their information the Champions went into the European Cup (Town have been in that).
The next 2 or at times 3 clubs went into the UEFA Cup. I cant even remember how many times we were in that. (Did they play once ?)
The FA Cupwinners went into the Cup Winners Cup (Town have of course been in that. I must have missed the Budgies performance).

At the time the saying was that last years Champions went into the European Cup while this years Champions play in the UEFA Cup.

I believe of the six clubs we played when we won it three were the Champions of their league.

Sorry, rant over. Gits.

Have you pointed out that whatever they think of it we won it, not just participated in it?

Whilst the logic might be frustrating, surely they see how they look trying to discredit cups we won fourty years ago. You do get the sense that they're a little disappointed with the lack of presitigious silverware during their their sixteen years.

I mean, I wouldn't get too upset by the views of an inbred halfwit, but if you must engage with this, two little points:

1. It's clearly the Europa League, because it's literally the same trophy.

2. Downplaying the significance of the tournament probably isn't the most sensible move on their part, given that participating in its Third Round is the greatest moment in their existence.

Like shooting fish in a barrel really.

Mr Angry on 17:52 - Jul 21 with 1634 viewsLegendofthePhoenix

tbh, the UEFA Cup when we won it was probably closer to what is now the Champions League. 2 or 3 of the top teams from each nation, many as you point out who then became Champions.
I couldn't give a monkeys what the carrot crunchers want to believe. Far more important is that UEFA ruined what were 3 super competitions when they changed it. The European Cup should only be for Champions. At least we were in it when it was for Champions only.

If you ever frequent that cesspit of a forum (and I admit I do from time to time), then you must see that they often have to fabricate much about us to feel good with themselves.

Let's be honest, if they were honest about their relevance to anything significant in football, then they'd have to call it a day and give up

The other classic is that we finished 2nd once but were mid to lower table other than that during that great decade.

After the very early Robson years/post promotion where we finished where a newly promoted club would expect/hope to finish, the placings were:

72-73 4th
73-74 4th
74-75 3rd (would've won title if it was 3 points for a win)
75-76 6th
76-77 3rd
77-78 18th (won FAC)
78-79 6th
79-80 3rd
80-81 2nd (won WAFFA cup)
81-82 2nd

Re-writing history isn't a good idea if facts are so easy to hand. Bless them.

Lol what did you expect would be my first thought, not the site I'd choose for finding a Town historian! Funnily it's one of the few Champ club footy forums I haven't visited in the past couple of years.

We had to beat the French, German and Dutch champions of that season (not the one before) to win it. And thrash the team that knocked united out earlier in the competition…..

Participating in it ONCE, to the heady heights of the second round, is their BIGGEST honour! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

edit: Oops, sorry Pique, I missed your reply above. And sorry to the hordes of budgies - with your noses pressed up longingly against the shiny window of TWTD - sorry, for belittling you and saying the 'second' round, when of course you FAMOUSLY made it all the way to the THIRD round!

Norwich supporters failing to understand basics about quality of football and competition standards, hardly surprising. Wouldn’t waste your time going on their pages.
