Ogbene 14:08 - Aug 29 with 2430 viewssouthnorfolkblue

I wonder whether he could be a departure before the window closes.

Assuming the Norwegian boy signs, it looks like he will be third choice for the attacking right sided position behind him and Mcateer. With Wes not being that far off fitness, he could end up being 4th choice.

I think a loan would be beneficial to both parties. He desperately needs to play to build up his fitness and I just don’t see where those minutes are coming from here.

Thoughts?

Yes - agree, thought he’d shown some glimpses of his power and pace which is encouraging but a loan until January to get back fully fit would be great. Then take it from there.

I would say so. I thought it quite telling he wasn't used at Preston, equally not sure what his profile would've added against their deep defensive line at the time. As you say if Egeli joins that's the best part of £30m spent on 2 players that will be ahead of him for that position, plus a returning Burns and Jack Clarke who has been out there recently.

Tomorrow's squad will be interesting to see for a couple of players and what it might mean for them. If we were offered what we spent on Ogbene back I would take it personally. I can see him at Celtic, not sure they're really replaced the guy they sold to Como whose name escapes me yet so might be a good fit.

At that point, when all fit, that’s at least 7 options wide right.

Johnson, Ogbenne, Clarke, Philogene, Burns, Mcateer, Norwegian chap,

And we have Chaplin and a Akpom too who can do that role.

It’s nothing short of bizarre if we’re honest…, suspect two of those to go. Ogbenne to join Luton would make sense, lots of connections to make that an easy deal.

Wouldn’t be shocked if Chaplin and Ogbenne and Johnson all leave.

Will be sad, but very obvious Chappers is well down the order, and at this level he should be a regular and a leader, because he deserves that. Portsmouth, a bit of a lazy assumption, but he’d be unbelievable for them.

He needs regular game time after an injury like that and agree there must be a change he leaves especially with Egeli inbound.

Just because someone can play there, does not mean they should or will IMO.

Realistically we have 2 concrete options competing for that position as it stands, Mcateer & Ogbene.

Egeli we don't know what role KM will want him to play (played LW/ CF in half of his appearances last season) and we have no idea what type of Wes Burns will return. Might be back to his best, might not.

Chappers is second choice at CAM, arguably been better than Sammie and Ogbene is second choice RW so neither are well down the pecking order as it stands.

With Wes injured and Ali inevitably off we have 10 fit options for those 4 positions which is pretty consistent with what we have always had as forward options under this regime. Last season we started with Burns, Ogbene, Omari, Szmodics, Clarke, Broadhead, Chappers, Delap, Hirst, Al-Hamidi (10) with Ogbene, Burns and Omari all able to play on the right.

This year we have Mcateer, Ogbene and Egeli.

Not sure there is too much of an issue.

I reckon Egeli could become the No10.

Pretty much.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and as per Broady, I've no doubt they will have put some big numbers in front of him already.

Wrexham dont just have to think about on pitch performance, they need to think about content for their TV show. Getting the Welsh lads together is a good theme.

Crazy to think an 8M signing who’s probably played under 5 games is now third choice.

I don't really get so many people saying he'll be off. 8 million on a 4 year contract. A nasty injury ended his season early. He's already played half as many games this season as last season. A bit early to give up on him. A short loan to build up more match fitness, possibly.

so agree with you on this one. KMC last week stated that Ogbene has to be one of the fastest players he has coached, and brings so much to the team.
I say give the guy a chance, he barely played last season due to a major injury, had no chance to gel in a settled team. I see him as someone to bring on with 20 minutes to go, running at tired defenders.

There was the line about players committed to us at least until jan in the press conference. Should imagine wes has a seat in the dressing room at Wrexham waiting for him. He would be great for them, will be a sad day when he leaves.

I guess Chaplin, though not Welsh, would be a great signing for them too. His interplay with Broadhead etc.

They could end up buying as many from us as we have from WBA!!

I hope not. I like him and I think he can play at the higher level with us. A regular partnership with Furlong will help whoever plays in front of him. We need partnerships all over the pitch, a regular starting X1.

Don't see him going. We signed him in the premier confidently and he probably would've played most games last year without the injury. Highly rated by McKenna and we like having several options across the front line.

Don't see it. Ogbene and McAteer are nailed on to be the two right wingers with Egeli given a more free roaming role like Omari had.

McAteer was a really odd signing if we were hopeful of Egeli. Unless we’ve run out of patience with Clarke, think Ogbene’s injury has set him way back, or think it’s time to move Wes on especially after also having a similar bad injury. We don’t need 5 of them. Clarke is an option on the left, so probably gets a stay of execution despite being pretty underwhelming. Wes we know all about but don’t know how his injury will have affected him. So it’s a 50/50 Wes or Ogbene for me. Wes deserves a chance to show he can recover, so probably Ogbene. So yeah, agreed.

I’d sell. We’ve got so many players we don’t need to hang on to one as an insurance choice unless we can’t sell.

Egeli seems certainly predominantly left-footed, but his showreel says he's no slouch with the right either. At his current club he apprears to have licence to drift all over the place, and there are a fair smattering of headed goals too. Apparently he has the highest XG of any 19 and under in Europe, and has taken the most shots in his own league. Even conceding that that league is not of the highest standing he is as exciting, perhaps more so than Azon who is a really solid handful.
