it points to a flaw in us institutions - they lack the equivalent of an independent electoral commission. the uk regularly redraws boundaries but it is uncontroversial because it is done independently. but the thing with the us is that if the republicans are doing it in their favour while they have the necessary majority now, it is almost certain the democrats have done the same in their favour in the past when they had the chance. the lack of political independence in the judiciary and in processes such as this is a problem in the us, but it is in no sense new or unique to trump.
edit - and it isn't fascism.

🎣 cheers for that, bud - another piece of valuable insight.
Good thing the courts in the US are *totally* legit and haven’t been muddled with whatsoever and that everything that’s happening now is totally normal and the democrats have definitely done exactly the same, nothing out of the ordinary going on, phew! What a relief!

We have an independent commission. They have just forced a vote on it politically.
Indeed, the Boundary Commissions. I could well be imagining it, but it seems like the reorganisations only ever go in favour of the incumbent government. Maybe I’m wrong and don’t notice when it goes the other way.
Still, they do a better job than the Welsh Rugby overlords, who are suggesting the best way to have good competition in Wales is for there to be only 2 regional clubs at the top level. (Sorry, that’s probably of little interest to anyone but the first example of dubious boundary reorganisation I could think of).

I know you didn't reply to me, but I have said many times that I don't think Trump et al are fascist. I think it is ignorant to suggest they are. I also don't see the point of it. It is an anti-democratic right-wing movement that is attacking democratic institutions in multiple areas. That is more of the issue that whether their want to argue incorrectly that Trump et al are fascist.
So the big thing are the multitude of different threats. One thing in osolation is never that bad. But it is a systematic attack on democractic institions and that does typically start from within when a democracy transitions to a dictatorship.
The whole "the democrats also did it" is a weak argument, voting boundaries and states are already skewed to the Republicans, hense why Hilary won the democratic vote and lost the election.
It is worth noting that the current Republican party are supported by facists. The people who performed an insurrection were pardoned by this government. Not being labelled fascist isn't a win. The state of the Republican party is a threat to US democratic institutions. That isn't an opinion, that is observable.

No, the two are related but not directly causational?
- Violence is essential to dismantling fascism. - Charlie Kirk is a quasi-fascist who has been a victim of violence and lost his life. - I do not believe the violence Charlie Kirk was a victim of will lead directly to the dismantling of the current administration.
Not sure I can break it down much simpler than that, apologies if it’s still not communicating in a concise and/or clear enough manner for you to digest the intention behind my words.

Oh don't worry, it's quite clear what you've done. You massively exaggerated and have now realised how silly that was and rowed back on it.

Weird it’s come across like that, because I personally stand by everything I’ve said- and I most certainly don’t feel ‘silly’
I was just trying to genuinely offer greater insight into the intended meaning of my words as I’m aware that I’m not always the greatest at communication, written or otherwise.

I agreed with a few of his opinions, I disagreed with many of his other opinions.
But what is absolutely sure, is that this man did not deserve to be shot in the neck and executed for having an opinion. My best wishes and thoughts are with his family.
I know many Americans who are scared living their lives right now. This sucks. We have many issues in this country, but thank God we don't have to worry about getting shot at for our opinions.

Confusion. In a ball. I hope it makes more sense soon.

Reaps what he sows?
Thats f**king vile.

Please explain your moral outrage to me as it seems thoroughly misplaced.
This is an individual that advocated for public executions, dismissed the notion of empathy, and stated that gun deaths were an acceptable cost for the second amendment. How is this not an example of reaping what you sow?

I think it is abhorrent that he has been assassinated. However, it’s presumably for pushing an extreme opinion very publically rather than simply for holding an opinion. I don’t think there’s any suggestion that Americans have grounds to fear execution for simply holding a specific opinion. Not yet at any rate.

That religion should not get in the way of politics and that when people stop talking it's dangerous, because you start to think the other side is evil and they lose their humanity.

Don't be bringing facts into Joey's emotional response to the poster rather than the content.

His fundamentalist take on religion was his politics though in many instances surely.

Inexorably entwined.
inevitably. The religion is the moral compass that extends to your opinions. If they didn't there would be a lack of personal honesty. In the same way family values instilled as a child stay with you.

More than that. The religious arguments were often a foundation for points made even if they were sometimes cloaked in questionable assertions of fact or logic.

Obviously religion is important to people and can shape their moral compass. However as a pendant, it is not "the moral compass". Morality is not the sole domain of morality and it's quite possible for religion to be an enormous source of immorality. Similarly it's possible to be an atheist and be far more moral a person than a Christian/Muslim/Pastafarian.
Just a bug bear when morality gets equated to or with religion as they are not the same thing and they are not exclusive.

Beliefs are important to people and help to shape their moral compass be it for better or worse.

22 Year old Tyler Robinson has been arrested. Turned in by his family.
Also engravings on the casings make his view reasonably clear:
"Hey fascist! Catch!" and "o bella ciao, bella ciao"
The fact his own father has helped him being caught is just amazing strength... How much his father probably wrestled with the fact that by doing the right thing he is quite possibly sending his son to death..how conflicting his thoughts probably were... I hope he's getting support.
