The tax implications of coming back to the UK are huge on the money that he was supposedly on.

Weekly earnings £110,000 × 14 weeks in Kuwait ≈ £1,540,000 so could be looking at a tax bill of £693,000 if he spends 183 days or more in the UK up until April next year.

He will have probably earn't more than that with the termination as well.

that is a tax implication, I would embrace if I had 1.5 million big ones in the bank for a couple of months work in the sun. Surprised when he went to Kuwait, one of the Saudi or UEA clubs would have been a better fit football and lifestyle-wise.

According to various online links he could sign for anyone but could only be registered if they have a spare space. If no spare space he'd have to wait until jan to play. But he could for example sign for town tomorrow if he wanted to.

I don't think you can be registered if you were at a club when window closes; otherwise anyone can just be released outside of window and sign elsewhere

It's why you see a few contracts get terminated on deadline day, so they are then free to sign elsewhere post the window shutting

I'd prefer him to Taylor.

But.... we bent over for Morsy to get the deal done and didn't get a fee OR ask him to see out his contract. Does feel like he let us down a bit.

The figures I was told were significantly lower than that. But still a lot, obviously.

Could it have been the equivalent to the net earnings on £110k a week in the UK?

No, figures I heard were a bit less than half of what's suggested.

Indeed, if you're registered when the window closes, you can't join anyone until the next window. Hence the regular contract terminations just before windows close.

I know he'll have had a relegation clause but would that figure be miles off what he was on with us? I guess he'll have got a hefty signing on fee with his new club as well.

I've found the handbook. It's quite wordy lol

Something interesting is that I dont think morsy could actually return anyway
It says that a player who's contract was terminated to allow them to join another club for free can't then re register with the original club for 12 months unless it was on loan.

The Club doesn't want him here. Reading between the lines, my view is that he was seen as a serious reputational risk.

His stance on rainbow laces was already problematic, and I can imagine that his outspokenness on Gaza also wasn't viewed in the best possible light by the ownership group.

There's a reason he was allowed to go on a free.

If that was true I would consider not supporting ITFC anymore if its become indoctrinated by the woke left, but I doubt it is true, I thought he wanted a 2 year deal and we only offered one.

I imagine his wages would have dropped a fair bit after relegation and a new deal would have been on lower money given his age.

Possibly not but a big increase in take home pay with there being no tax in Kuwait.

Offers aside, it seems odd that the club would let him leave for free despite the fact they could probably have got a seven-figure fee for him.

Seems rather at odds with the attitude shown elsewhere, that the club is looking to make as much money as it can however it can (match worn shirts), and the attitude taken with other player sales.

As Phil has said above, the club seemed to make no great effort to keep him when the Kuwait interest became known, which I feel rather speaks for itself.

Sure there are some question marks and unanswered questions over the situation, I just feel that explanation, if not impossible, is a little far-fetched.

It's just my thoughts, and I agree that there could well have been other rationale behind it.

The fact that Morsy was used as a case in point in the BBC article about the PL cutting ties with Stonewall, after Morsy had left the club, must have gone down well with Ashton et al though.

As has been reported elsewhere, Kuwait SC's record transfer fee is >£1m. It now looks clear that a) Morsy is being paid much less than was speculated at the time, b) the project/club may not be on the sure footing it seemed. The Kuwait league is ranked very, very lowly.

Add all that up, plus the fact no Championship club is gonna give us a fee + take on his wages, and it's clear why we didn't, nor would we ever, have got a seven-figure fee for him.

To my mind they're two completely different things.

The LGBT stance speaks for itself, given the media coverage it got.

Gaza could be two-fold. Either the fact that he was outspoken on a controversial and polarising topic or, given the large-scale American involvement at the club, it may have been that his pro-Gaza views did not align with the views of the money men.

He wouldn't be the first. There was talk in the summer that Jackson Irvine had got himself in trouble with the famously left-wing St Pauli after having expressed support for Palestine.

No fair enough, I respect your opinion, and I already know from your posting history you would strongly disagree with me on my conclusions if it were true.

I felt I needed to express how I would feel if it were true, and it wasn't meant as a provocation, so i thank you for not pursuing that potential confrontation, in light of the recent fractious board.
