pablo, taricco, burgess, donacien, jackson were all written off at this stage of their ipswich careers. mckenna doesn't think he's crap and he's watched him far more closely for 13 months. whose judgement shall i trust on this one?!

you can't tell the *value* of a player 1/5 of the way into their contract, that's why just about everyone else has chosen players whose career at ipswich is over! he could easily get us promotion and/or get sold for a big profit 2 weeks ago people were saying that philogene would never amount to anything at ipswich, now he's on fire. don't be so quick to flounce

answer my question first, why should i trust your judgement on football issues rather than award-winning, highly-paid football manager kieran mckenna? what's your credentials? answer me that and i'll happily give you more than 3!

Yes, but with Philogene, annoyingly for the dismals, scoring the odd goal and Clarke having the nerve to score a couple including a key penalty, it’s only right they sink their teeth into the next hate figure. Welcome McAteer - only Greaves above you now! Welcome. The worst value signing is of course Le Pen. Didn’t look like he’d last five minutes when he trotted on the field and so it proved. After him, for me, Lee Martin then Sereni. Dishonourable mention for Paul Taylor too. Deary me, they really were bad times.

Pound for pound, Town’s worst value signing? on 17:11 - Sep 29 by Garv | Presumably this is just a personal dislike, because you can't be putting him in there based on ability/performance. Scored 14 goals in his first season. Not earth shattering obviously, but respectable. |
Yes. Very much a personal dislike, so I accept it may not be that objective. That said, I think he only scored 4 or 5 goals in his second season, so didn't really pull up many trees when taken as a whole across his spell with us.

yes nearly ever game player of the match too, which you can take as him being "that good", or that the rest werent very good at the time. He'd have been slaughtered by the "fans" in the social media age for sure though. there was one game a simple shot ball came straight at him, and instead of just catching it, he helped push it into the roof of the net for a goal.

Yeah, he definitely wasn't a Mick player so he was phased out fairly quickly when he arrived. Still scored some big goals mind you. I imagine you and Mick have a similar view on him.

I'm not sure Mick and I are particularly aligned Garv but it's quite likely we could both spot a ne'er do well when we see one!!! I didn't mind Mick but 5 years was enough for everyone I think.

Pound for pound, Town’s worst value signing? on 20:44 - Sep 29 with 655 views | Reuser_is_God | Given what we paid for them & what we got out of them you’d have to say it’s Muric or Ogbene. However they can both free themselves from that tag if they come back from their loans & contribute or get sold for a decent fee.

No. Reo-Joker had activated a release clause in his Bolton contract after relegation in 2012 but unfortunately no-one wanted him & he ended up at Town, signing a short term contract in October. I doubt this was too generous & even though we offered to extend his contract in January 2014, he turned that down as well, eventually signing for Vancouver Whitecaps. He then spent a couple of years knocking around MLS.

Neh, harsh as just based on injury and his town career isn't necessarily done. Still find it odd as he's one of ROI's best players and ahead of McAteer in the pecking order. Fitness seems ok given he played the 90 for Sheffield United and set up their goal with a huge turn of acceleration. I still really don't understand McAteer for £12 mil o er already having Ogbene in the building. Really wish the best for Mcateer and for it to work of course as the fee has nothing to do with him.

Agree. I think the Sindre Walle Egeli feels very odd too for an enormous fee.

It depends on what you define as value. It’s easy to compare headline £ across era but that really isn’t right Sereni cost £4m 25 years ago. You cannot compare that fee with Man Us £49m for Onana. Even the money paid for Broadhead, Morsy and co four years ago would be considerably more now. So the pound for pound aspect doesn’t really work for me unless you compare players bought say in the last 15 months. Greaves has plenty of attributes. He’s just 25 too and perhaps with a little support as opposed to elevating him to the top of the bedsheet haters list (now Philogene has had the brass neck to score 4 goals in 2 games) he will develop that potential. I think it too soon and unfair to label them while they are still with us. Fine once they’ve gone as their record and contribution is there for all to see. Pound for pound we have plenty of ex players who stank the place out. Nathan (Duke) Ellington was one. Two years wages just to keep the local food outlets and Jacamo 6xl shorts in business. But my vote still goes for Le Pen. [Post edited 30 Sep 13:09]

Taricco was hopeless in his first year, but he only played one game because he was so bad. And he cost peanuts. Pablo was over-rated & like most of GB's disastrous signings that summer, nit what we needed. Donacien & Jackson Hurst overpaid for average Championship players at best. Not sure anyone was writing off Burgess.

Le Pen - As others have said Muric - Surprised he isn't getting more of a mention, considering Ogbene is. Similar, except Muric's situation was more down to high profile mistakes, rather than injury. Ogbene - Still time to get off the list
