There's no EPL this weekend, so football has stopped. They just post bobbins to remain relevant until the real football starts again.

Why would he want to go to Scotland? And then you have to ask could Rangers even afford his release clause, let alone his wages?

| Is rangers a step up for mckenna on 12:46 - Oct 12 with 3735 views | J2BLUE | No. Rangers/Celtic are for padding your CV when first starting out or boosting your pension when it's all but over. The sort of club you join as a player when you realise you haven't won anything and you're the wrong side of 30. Or you play for one of the lesser Scottish teams and the move makes you financially. And yes, I know how big they both are and that their league handicaps them but that just proves the points above. It's a two team league and both have financial muscle to dominate the league and cups. | | | |

Correct. And Rangers are struggling to be second in a two horse race. Career-ending move for any bright young manager.

Obviously their domestic league is a bit lop-sided though. As for quality of the team to be managed at Rangers, I donāt have much of a clue as I havenāt seen any Scottish league teams for years. A dark place through the winter too!

The domestic league is a two team league and a rubbish one at that. Alex Ferguson progressed from doing a brilliant job at Aberdeen but not too many others have. Why McKenna would put himself in the midst of all that sectarian rubbish that blights Scottish football, let along Rangers appalling āsupportersā is beyond me. I heard some dreadful stuff about them when they were bust and should have been put out of business altogether. Heād be mad to go there regardless of what side of the religious fence he is (I donāt want to know). If he has a good season here he will have plenty of options next season, including staying, that are better than that ghastly club.

| Is rangers a step up for mckenna on 16:55 - Oct 12 with 2991 views | darkhorse28 | Itās been a good roadmap to a decent size premier league role, if successful. Heād have more opportunities than doing well in the EFL. Only four managers across Europe list more games in the top flight than KM, thatās an awful record, he isnāt getting a decent job at that level unless he gets promotion, and then stays up. So he likely would consider it. Especially when he provisionally agreed to join Brighton and Crystal Palace, so he isnāt afraid to put himself first. I think in the context of us giving him champions league wages, if something comes up he sees as a step up, heāll be gone. Not many clubs can afford that though, when heās proven heās not close to that levelā¦, so I would t worry, heāll be here until we find out if he can warrant champions league money, this contract period. Guess if he gets us up, the financial side is mitigated a little bit, if he doesnāt, we better all worry,.., who the manager is will e least if our worries . Always amazed peopleās egoās and validating their views on KM seem FAR more important than the clubs long term future. | | | |

Oh yeah, heād be nuts to go. The chance to play European football is the obvious (only?) step up with that move. I bet they couldnāt afford him though; heās on a few times more than Martin was. Plus our release fee is probably pretty chunky. I full agree on the sectarian bollox too - itās a stain on the game (and society).

The only advantage I can see for Celtic particularly is you get some European football experience and the media pressures you'd get at bigger English club The level is about League One/Lower Championship standard bar the 5 or 6 games you play against Rangers every season

'Only four managers across Europe list more games in the top flight than KM, thatās an awful record,' So there is Arteta, Pep, Moyes...who's the other one ? Or did you mean there are four managers who have LOST more top flight games ? As for the record, maybe it's time you put a different one on the turntable.

Not quite a two horse race, I think there are one or two posters on this thread who need to take a look at the current Scottish Premiership table...

I have asked my mate (Rangers season ticket holder for many years) about this. Quote: "Personally I would like to see him here, but there's no way Rangers would hire someone called McKenna." I imagine that attitude alone would prevent KM even considering the move. [Post edited 13 Oct 2025 6:47]

| Is rangers a step up for mckenna on 06:56 - Oct 14 with 1324 views | ThatMuhrenCross | Itās a bigger club, but thatās where any talk of a āstep upā stops. Itās a weaker league than the championship, heād be working with a smaller budget, they have inferior players and theyāre have a poorer season. The Celtic/Rangers jobs are only good for unknown managers coming to Europe to make a name for themselves, or failed ex-Prem/Champ managers looking to get their career back on track. Assuming there has even been an approach, Iām sure it would have been shut down very quickly. | |

| Is rangers a step up for mckenna on 07:28 - Oct 14 with 1283 views | Tractor_Boy333 | Yes Rangers will have European football but normally have to go through qualifying and rarely make it much further. I canāt see how Rangers would be a step up if be amazed if there was any interest at all from him. Just not an attractive proposition and Scottish football is not even Championship level. Scottish fans say if we had the Premiership money they could compete, perhaps in about 5 seasons but itās just not going to happen. The football is poor there wouldnāt be a big budget and the fans would turn the minute they lost to Celtic. | | | |
