It's going to be a season of tedious 'fans' 23:06 - Nov 4 with 11140 viewsjasondozzell

Moaning at every opportunity, delighting in having a pop at players and KM and then joining in the promotion celebrations at the end and saying 'never in doubt I love this team'.

Criminally overspent. A very dramatic statement. Nice one. Who and by how much? Please list. The term is only applicable at the point they move on in terms of what service they gave and their fee. Who would you have bought and for what?

People were beating McKenna over the head with Kone a month ago. Looked fresh from the donkey sanctuary on Saturday. Overspent on Hutchinson and Delap? I thought we did on Delap. That much money for an unproven lump of player? Mad.

Interesting looking at who was posting Sat-Tues and who is posting now. Some are consistent and win or lose offer their views. Others disappear after a win strangely.

Jacob Greaves - £15m?
Dara O'Shea - £15m?
Jack Clarke - £15m?
Jaden Philogene - £22m?
Cheio Ogbene - £8m?
Sammie Szmodics - £8m?
Kasey McAteer - £11m?

Nearly £100m across them 7 players.

This is a joke right ? Philogene, Clarke, greaves, o shea, McAteer, Ogbene, do any of these look 15-20 x better than the £500,000 to £2,000,000 players they replaced ? I’d even take the extra 5-10% better that McKenna stated was needed for the premier league. We have a team of players now where most individually cost more than the entire team they are playing against - so yeah criminally overspent

Individually every player is statistically better than those they replaced, as balanced team and football the way KM wants, its not a unit, it may never be, it could be the individuals just don't work together. it could be the individuals are not suited to the football we try to play

According to Transfermarkt

Charlton squad value 25.5 million EUR
PNEFC squad value 44.85 million EUR
Derby County squad value 51.93 million EUR
Watford squad value 57.85 million EUR
Bristol City squad value 72.35 million EUR
Coventry squad value 107.95 million EUR

OUR squad value 198.35 million EUR (highest in the entire EFL)

Yet we struggle to beat and even lose to sides worth a fraction of our squad, it’s not a one off like 23/24 but it’s happening on a regular basis. If that is not underperforming then I don’t know what it is.

So now we have fans that moan at the team and fans that moan at the fans that moan at the team.
Excellent, that means that everyone now can have a good moan.

Completely agree. We are one of the most tolerant fan bases, and that works against us. It has always been the case, or at least in my lifetime going back to the dismantling of Sir Bobby's squad.

But if we hadn’t been very tolerant with Robson he would have been gone when we finished 19th in the 1970-71 season and he would never had built that incredible squad for it to be dismantled

Of course people should be free to criticise and objective criticism is important but i find a surprising number of so called supporters to be unduly negative and to seemingly get a perverse pleasure from it. I thought that last night was our most complete performance of the season - we gave up very little and created enough chances to win the game comfortably. Obviously we need to take at least one of those opportunities but nine times out of ten we do and win the game and everyone’s perspective is different The important thing for me seeing a plan and improvement and there is no doubt in my mind we are developing well as a team and on the right track. The bumpy start was inevitable with the turnover of players we’ve had regardless of the spend, luckily we’re not the only team struggling for consistency and are still well in touch if the top two. I find so many fans to be fickle, unrealistic in their expectations and I sometimes wonder how they get through the day with their immature response to any sort of adversity. By all means criticise but always try and keep things in context. Every day we have McKenna is a good day in my opinion. Memories are short but will suddenly become vivid the day we don’t have him

Many look significantly better. Some haven't delivered consistently yet, and some haven't had time to deliver yet. Some never may, but chances are (and only time will tell), the longer term balance will be that we get a good return, with some gems and the odd disappointment. That's football recruitment for you.

There is a massive degree of blue tinted specs with regard to many of the players replaced / who have moved on. Yes, they delivered massively 2-3 years ago, but that needs to be put into context - it was a different time, with different opposition and a more established team. Look at what most of those players are delivering now (and that is not a slight, but a reality).

Do I expect more from the current squad? Yes. Would I like it to be all in place now? Yes, but I recognise the massive rebuild - the squad in full has only been together for 9 games. Will I be disappointed if we're not in the playoffs by January, and within touch distance of the top two? Yes. Am I confident we will be in that position? Yes, and that will make us well placed for the 2nd half of the season.

Let me add some more context. Over the last 10 games we have more PPG than we had during our promotion season for the period Dec 1, 2023 and Jan 31, 2024. Even in our spectacular promotion season, we has poor periods.

The season is far from over - we're a quarter of the way through. The team is improving. We were massively dominant last night, but didn't get the deserved result. Our performances are moving in the right direction, and being more clinical in front of goal will transform our results. That is why I am confident that we will be where we need to by the beginning of January. And it's at that point we will see why many of these players were so highly rated.

And a season where it's not plausible for fans to follow a performance with some personal thoughts without threads being created to show how some are super fans.

Look we dont know how this season is gonna end.

We all hope promotion. Imo the minimum requirement

We are going through a very mixed phase of results/performances. We dont recognise the team going out on the pitch and there's not really a trust in upcoming results.

There will be joys there will be lows. But as annoying as boo posts are. The anti boo posts are similar

Here's to a typical football season. We were lucky as fans with 23/24 now we are a big fish in a small pond and that comes with massive and minimum expectations.

There is and always has been a difference between "supporters" and "fans" of a club

It’s a spectator sport with passionate fans - who would have thought fans would get upset at watching players passing back to the keeper on 96 minutes - strange hey.

We have criminally over spent on players and have now created a weight of expectation in most games because of it - every game like this just ends up boosting the confidence of the opposition and draining ours regardless of what McKenna says - some of the players attitudes are already showing and creating friction amongst team mates which will get worse before it gets better .

Disagree that we've criminally overspent. Sure we've bought some duffs and others have cost more than they should have. But I think there are reasons for this. a) in the Prem season we couldn't compete for established prem players so we had to go for the best of the rest. That inflates their price. b) In the Champ everyone knows we have parachute money so sellers inflate the price as they don;t really want to sell to a rival. It is what it is, and i think it;s the same for any club in our situation.

I don't get why people have an issue with 'moaning' during/after the match on here. A post represents someone's thought process at that moment in time. Why would people be happy with the money spent and not even being top six?

Part of the issue is this is not a team as we saw last night. No leadership group and in fighting amongst players tells me they are not happy either.

I thought the support for the most part was great last night.

Hoping to end the season consigning that lot up the road to relegation and winning at Wembley but then the re-build starts again as we have no prem quality players currently.

There's been ONE bit of argie-bargie between players, that was quickly dissolved. Let's not make it into a bigger thing than it is. The players seemed very happy on Town in 5 after Saturday.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Who looks significantly better than in our 23/24 season?

I think the opposite that the group of 23/24 has been massively disrespected, by the club and by the fans - and what they built with KMc during that period was something so unique, and so hard to find at a football club - the ultimate fairy tale.

The decision to dissolve that group, instead of evolve the group is one of the worst decisions arguably in the clubs history, and we are seeing the repercussions of that currently.

That team lost 6 games all season off the back of promotion from L1, we've lost 3 already, it achieved 96 points, just 1 point off the top spot.

If we carry on in current form, we will hit 72 points, wouldn't even get in the play-offs when the 23/24 side achieved automatic promotion.

Disrespect is a joke.

Most of them are on here whinging during the game rather than being at the match. Make of that what you will.

Can I ask who is “them” though? That’s problem with the OP, he doesn’t even identify who he’s talking about, looking at his posting history it’s anyone who isn’t super clappy clappy whatever happened. Dolly and churchman aren’t far off either.

Some people can’t bare to read anyone challenging or making objective analysis after a game, it’s a football forum FFS!

Will be positive when we win and probably have some negativity or criticism when we lose or at times, like last night fail to win. Especially given our position of strength this year.

There’s a few that just turn up from nowhere when we lose but it’s hardly a significant majority. Obviously no Town fan is over the moon with the start to this season and surely it’s fine to make comments on performances post game.

This JD guy is so over the top, there’s a sensitive bunch on here.

For what it’s worth I watched it back in full after work and thought we pushed pretty well second half but failed to capitalize. At least one crap goal every week conceded and not taking chances isn’t an ideal recipe though but we certainly had them last 15.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Almost as tedious as posters like you that can't stand any opinions or criticism of performances.

We drew 1-1 with Watford and we are outside the playoffs in November, with a ridiculously expensive squad. I hate to break it you but there will be some frustrations when we don't beat those kind of teams at home.

We will know a lot more in January. I heard we were better this evening and a 7 point week will be fine but we need to obviously win against these sides on our own patch. Two points from Derby, Charlton and Watford at home against similar kind of opponents won't cut it come May.
