Good energy and workrate as ever.

Got in good positions and put some good balls in.

Another like Azon who we are going to benefit from with the squad depth.

Anyone questioning McAteer needs to consider where Jack Taylor is compared to a few seasons ago.

Agree.
And talking of Azon?. Can't remember the last time I was that pleased to see someone score a goal. Another little box ticked.

I really don't think many hate the Mcateer signing from the player point of view and that he's young. It is just a bizarre signing in terms of the size of the fee and to a rival. That and we had a guy who is ahead of him for ROI already.

If we signed him for £2-3 million we would all be absolutely fine. But the fee is not his fault and if he can develop and help us go up it's all justified in the end!

Doesn't always work that way tho Nth, at the moment Mcateer reminds me of harness, that's not an issue as such as he was useful but ive yet to see that next level quality we obviously brought him for. Plenty of time though..

a niche perspective

Just need to see Walle get one and the floodgates will be proper open.

Yeah we had Egeli on the bench for the whole game.
Ridiculous.

We were having a lot of joy down that right hand side first half. It looked, in the second half, that they were doubling up on MacAteer/ the right side in general and forcing Matusiwa out wide to support him. That led to a very dangerous spell for them. When we kept Matusiwa in the centre, they struggled to impose themselves, really.

Best game I've seen him play so far. I do feel there is a player in there. I guess he is in the right place to come out of his shell. Let's hope he does so fully.

lol. I’m with you on that, but after a 4-1 win I think it’s easily to be forgiving. Have to say I don’t like his end product at all right now. Hopefully it comes in time as I really enjoy what he brings out of possession, works so hard and he’s very fit, gets in all the right positions but seems to have a brain fart once there. I think that can be developed though and if it can he could be a Wes Burns mk2.

How anybody can say he had a good game is beyond me. Got in some good positions but wasted every one of them. Final ball was awful and actually missed from 3 yards out

He’s in the Kayden Jackson zone now, people just trying to think of anything to praise him with.. ‘he ran around a lot’.. I would quite happily play on the right for us and run around a lot.

I'm told the headline figure isn't overly accurate, in the sense we paid about £5 million upfront

I guess it is a modern fee to prise him from a rival?

We essentially respent the Hutch fee on Egeli and McAteer

He gets in some great positions but his final ball (and decision making) is poor. I’m hoping that KM and the coaching staff improve those attributes.

It might of escaped you.. But KM loved Kayden Jackson. For his professional attitude, discipline, and low maintenance..

Think he's been put in the KJ zone, by those that want to beat him with a stick. Like they did Jackson at times.

Don't think a team wins 4-1 away from home, unless "everyone" does their bit.. Including McCateer...

Agree.

Thought he got into some dangerous areas, showed some good running power, and delivered some dangerous balls - sometimes just a bit of composure to pick someone out needed but I think that can be developed over time.

Works his absolutely honkers off tbh, for any failures, you can always cut a bit of slack with that level of work rate.

Definitely looked like there was something there to work with and develop.

This is 100% true. Desperate to find any positive brigade. He may well come good to some degree but it's hard to believe he will ever look like a 12 mill player, that 12 mill is looking like a heavy investment in Russian oil at this point in time.

If this was a thread looking at one of our 9s there'd be a whole load of people saying there'd been a number of excellent balls into dangerous areas that the striker should have read/attacked/moved for.

Personally thought he did put a number of decent crosses in but Swansea defended their box well at times. Clarke could possibly have done better getting on the earlier chance but the defender did well to get in front of him.

He could easily have had an assist at QPR last week if Akpom had sorted his feet out earlier.

The goals and assists will come for him I think.

"Find any positive brigade". LOL. That's pretty rich coming from the "Find any negative brigade".

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I did wonder if the true fee is lower, after all it was officially undisclosed. It would be really harsh on McAteer though for everyone to think he cost £12m if really he was less than that. It is a huge amount of money at this level.

Felt started brightly then dropped off and had a dodgy 15 mins or so, after that steady Eddie till subbed. He definitely gets in the right positions to defend but think he is going to find himself as the minor rotation with Sindre in the long and still face challenges from Ogbene and Sir Wes!
