| WBO Champion on 20:43 - Nov 17 with 1373 views | DecageBruce | Don’t know the reason but seems poor form. Also, likely to have cost FW the biggest pay packet (and challenge) of his career so far. Don’t think FW would have had much of a chance but never know with his power. Hope more comes out as to why Usyk has vacated and what FW next step is | | | |

Yep. For Usyk, there is too much risk in taking on Fabio. Our man has a potent mix of amazing fitness, a chin carved out of granite and a thunderous punch. Makes sense for Usyk to avoid this for a few easier paydays instead.

Agree, too risky for him. He is worried he will loose and the outcome of that

He doesn't shy away from the best he's a great fighter, But injuries and father time are closing in fast, Wardley hungry dangerous, big puncher maybe he didn't fancy it at this stage so in order not to he had to relinquish,

It's a weird sport where you can avoid opponents of your choosing It's a bit like us deciding we won't play Coventry until we decide we are ready to do so

No commercial value in it for Usyk, he would demand far more than it would generate, think the only fight left for him is Itauma, and he's still a novice, that's what Turki wants, and what he wants he gets. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fabio fight Hrgovic. No chance he fights Moses as they share the same trainer.

I guess it's a bit different in that Coventry aren't going to be repeatedly punching us in the head.

It's absolutely standard and par for the course, particularly in the Heavyweight Division. If the four main Governing Bodies have a difference of opinion over who the legitimate second ranked boxer is, then it isn't possible for the Champion to meet his obligations to all of them. It's a way to drum up interest when a division is flagging a bit: if there are four separate World Champions rather than one Champion, then potentially there are four times as many countries interested. Further to this, the WBO is not seen as being as prestigious as the other awarding bodies, so it sometimes plays the role of "attention seeking little brother" by being over-demanding regarding their Challenger being given priority. Fabio becomes Champion, the WBO becomes the preferred route for many Top Ten fighters, who suddenly prioritise gaining the WBO Number One challenger status as it is their best route to a World Championship. Eventually a Unification bout will be agreed and fought, whether between Usyk and Wardley or their successors, when the demand for it causes enough money to be put up to make it impossible for either Champion to resist.
