| Morsy to Bristol City on 12:53 - Dec 22 with 3211 views | DarkBrandon | I was just thinking about him. I understand all the "never go back" stuff, but if he hadn't decided to go on his short-lived jaunt to the Middle East, and instead was still in our squad ... we wouldn't be any worse off, would we? | | | |
| Morsy to Bristol City on 12:58 - Dec 22 with 3100 views | NthQldITFC | I'd like the chances of any mid-table but play-off chasing team who signs him, and I certainly like Bristol's. | |

It does feel like if this is a deal we could do we should. However there are rumours of burnt bridges and O Shea would have to be fully onboard. What’s not to like about having quality midfield cover we know fits the system. Also would be much less costly than many options.

Also, would Morsy be happy to be backup to Matusiwa? Because that is what he would be

They are too similar. Much as I’d have liked Morsy to stay, what’s done is done and we should wish him well and move on. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Morsy to Bristol City on 13:21 - Dec 22 with 2786 views | Herbivore | Would be a good move for him and at the top end of the type of club that might be interested in him. He's 34 and hasn't played competitive football in months. He's a top pro so I'm sure he's kept himself fit but he's not really at an age where you want such a long lay off, his match sharpness won't be there. I'm firmly in the camp that bringing him back here would be a very bad idea so not worried about him going to Brizzle who, realistically, we shouldn't be viewing as a threat to us. | |

McKenna explicitly said he wanted Morsy to stay for the year and hand the baton on to Matusiwa He didn't stay, and he's not likely to come back for the same reasons

They're closer to us points-wise than we are to the top 2!

Are they more similar than Morsy and Luongo? Serious question. Mass often played pretty defensively IIRC. Anyway, despite my sadness that he chose to move I think you are more than likely correct and that all parties are better off if he moves elsewhere. If he was coming here we'd have heard about it a long time ago.
| Morsy to Bristol City on 13:56 - Dec 22 with 2273 views | Pinewoodblue | Sam would want a longer contract than we would be inclined to offer. Realistically his last contract. Shame that when he negotiated his departure it wasn’t on terms that Kuwait didn’t work out he would revert to being an Ipswich asset on terms of previous contract. | |

True, but then he also wouldn’t have missed half a season of football either. I’d have been quite happy for him to stay at the time, but very cautious about going back now and then hearing how it’ll take him 2 months to get match fit.

I think so. I had a good discussion with somebody Saturday who took your line rather than mine. He actually thought Morsy was a far better player than Matusiwa. I don’t think he is/was although Sam was obviously a real Captain (one of the best I’ve seen at ITFC) and huge influence on the team. I thought Morsy was showing signs of decline last season, but with the team coming apart maybe that’s harsh. What is true is that Luongo was a great partner for Sam and was key to making that team work. A younger, fit Luongo would be perfect for this team as he could play anywhere in midfield- defensively, as you point out, or further forward. But time moves on.

Signing for 6 months at BC apparently.

Thing that irritates me most about this is that , if stories are to be believed, the club gave him the opportunity to go and have “one last big payday” - we gave up money to let that happen ”. He then jacks that in and ends up at a potential rival. Something has gone badly wrong in that deal as there is no way we would have let him go directly for free to Bristol City. Only way I can see this working is if the terms of his release anticipate this possibility and he is in someway banned from playing against us.

Yes, that's where I am. We were generous to Morsy, and Chaplin too, in the Summer when it would have been better for us to keep those two around in the squad but I'm not in favour of going back for either of them given their respective first half seasons. (Admittedly, there's still a big gap at 10 we haven' filled properly yet).

There is no way that such a clause could exist. We can't stipulate who a player can or can't play against when they leave us.
