Amorin sacked….here we go! (n/t) on 11:07 - Jan 5 by _CliveBaker_

I think there's a naivety in our fan base around just how highly McKenna is thought of. There were people on here not long back putting him in the same bracket as Liam Manning ffs, and its not just their recent careers that make that look silly.

McKenna is a premier league manager operating in the Championship, that's how he's viewed. He's got a good chance of getting back there with us, could probably go back there in the next couple of months with someone else if he wanted to. The question he'll be asking is whether its a big enough step up when it comes. Clearly Spurs or United would be, a West Ham or Palace is more debatable. They might be seen as a good step towards it though.

Exactly that.

United really didn't want to let him go when he came here.

Spurs hierarchy have liked him for a long time. Another club that he has an affinity for.

People thinking that last season will mean he's 'damaged goods' are incredibly naive. He's the real deal. Always has been.

I think if he's offered United or Spurs he'd feel he had to take it.

If he has to go I'd want him to go to United but only once he'd been here 10 years plus!

I think your analysis is spot on. The hope is he sees us as the better path to the United job in the end.

But if they offered it now...

Not a chance they go for him but it’s mad how many people seem to think he wouldn’t go if they did. And it wouldn’t be anything to do with loyalty or a lack thereof either, it’s Man Utd FFS!

Under all the calmness, logic, process etc, KM is a football romantic. You don't get a more romantic club than United and it's his club too!

He would go.

Amorin sacked….here we go! (n/t) on 10:36 - Jan 5 by Guthrum

Somewhat surprised at that. Had thought Amorim's plans were what they were going with in the longer-term reconstruction of the team (following an era of overmuch player power, poor recruitment and lack of effort).

Tho perhaps it was as much the Manager getting fed up with the stress?

Amorim was not Manchester United's manager - he was the head coach. Hence no interview after yesterday's game and the press conference instead, including his inference that he had been promised the role of manager as well as coach by now and it hasn't happened. He threw the gauntlet down more heavily than Maresca which has resulted in him being sacked rather than leaving by mutual consent but perhaps this is a sign that the men (and it is only men so far...) with the responsibility for a team's performance are getting fed up with being fettered by decisions from people who know less about football than them.

Man U get Glasner, Palace get your guy - he'd jump at it: half a season + summer to get his feet under the table with no danger of relegation. I wonder who you get to replace him? No nicking our man!

Totally agree with you and Clive on this. I had a brief chat at a book signing with Henry Winter in 2024 and he used exactly the same words as you 'the real deal'. Everyone in football knows how good KMc is and where he can go in the game.

People seem to have forgotten that he's already worked with world class players and not keeping a Town side up when it only had a puncher's chance of staying in the PL isn't really a failure.

Just to keep an eye on Walle Egeli ? And then there's that other Norwegian, getting towards the twilight of his career now but worth a punt for the last half of the season as a number nine. Plays for Man City at the moment so wages could be a problem.

Henry Winter knows his stuff!

Think you're spot on and good point about having worked with players at that level. How much of Solsjkaer's relative success there was KM? I suspect a lot.

That is exactly how I see it too.

Think we need someone younger and more physical. Wouldn’t be much if an upgrade on Hirst or Azon.

Should we be looking at whoever's in charge of Ratcliffe's other clubs (OGC Nice and FC Lausanne-Sport) to see who's likely to replace Amorin, like Chelsea getting Rosenior from Strasbourg?

On a bit of a tangent, presumably you don't get a lot of say in the matter if you're Rosenior? He might be happy enough in France and not keen on being told what to do by a phalanx of back room people at Chelsea. He probably doesn't get that level of interference/'help' at Strasbourg?

I think Carrick had some input too, and they seemed to be a coaching team built on friendship as well as footballing knowledge.

A bit of Googling reveals that OGC Nice parted company with manager Franck Haise on 29th December and he was replaced by Claude Puel.

Peter Zeidler (no, me neither) is currently in charge at Lausanne.

I can’t see McKenna going to United but there will be a domino effect and I can easily see him going to Palace or West Ham or somebody similar.

He’s been here a fair time now and he doesn’t have the full support of the crowd, as this forum (a very small sample) demonstrates. If you were in his shoes and you got an offer to step up to a Crystal Palace level club, you’d surely grab it with both hands wouldn’t you?

I’ve always thought he’d move on at the end of this season or earlier but I doubt it’ll be Man U. They seem a bit of a basket case, but what to I know? Pure speculation and guessing, but when it comes to it what will be will be.

This does worry me this time ......

As some have said over the course of this season there has been some ill feeling / moans / whatever you want to call it from some morons toward KMcK and he's made comment ref the "crowd" a few times now . He's far from stupid , been here a while and ......

This for me is the most dangerous it's been for him leaving for bigger and better things

Just hope I'm wrong

So McKenna should turn his nose up at sixth in the table Manchester United because fourteenth in the table and average attendance of twenty five thousand Crystal Palace are a better fit ?

If he’s allowed to do the job his way at Palace as opposed to a stooge coach and Man U, then yes - CP.

It’s what I’d do, but I’m not him and you may well of course be right. Let’s face it, it’s the top job in this country regardless of what MC or Liverpuddle may think.

If I was him I would take the Palace job ten times over before even thinking about Manchester United. That club is a basket case with disputed lines of responsibility. Then again, for that reason, if I was Glasner I'd be refusing the role if offered as well.

Saying that, I think whoever takes over from Glasner will be in for a thankless task. He's their best manager possibly ever and it will be very hard to build on what he has managed. United at least has room to grow from where they are now.

Amorim seemingly took the job whilst misunderstanding the role; McKenna should take note of that if approached. It feels like he has a free reign here - whilst working with Ashton, there are no other levers of power affecting how he carries out his job. Going from this to something very different might be difficult.

oh god the doom mongers will be out in force assuming that KMK has zero loyalty to the project. And why would he go somewhere where their existing manager has left because of being controlled

Nothing to do with a lack of loyalty. McKenna has demonstrated loyalty and commitment since he has been here.

But he would be crazy to slog it out in a Premier League relegation dogfight next season with us. As I said recently, if w=he wants to take the next step up to become an elite manager then he will probably do so this year.

Agreed Churchman. Fans hate McK. To any Man Utd recruiters researching the market, McK will become as disliked there as he has become here. Are far more qualified people I'd choose if I were you.

For all that Man United have been a mess for a while, Palace have hit their realistic ceiling as a club. A cup win and a European run is the best they are ever likely to manage, and you can see the impact the extra fixtures is having on their squad now. Whoever comes in after Glasner will be swimming against the tide. I'm not saying McKenna wouldn't take it, but I don't see why he would choose them over Man U, should that situation arise.

He's currently sixth favourite:

behind Maresca, Glasner, Fletcher, Southgate, and Hernandez.

Personally, I think McKenna is useless. Nowhere near Prem calibre. Man Utd would be insane to hire such an incompetent fool. All other Ipswich fans I know think the same.
