| The Athletic say that a senior club official asked to meet with Farage 17:47 - Mar 24 with 11961 views | JakeITFC | https://www.nytimes.com/athlet On Tuesday morning, Ipswich declined to comment on the record, although a club source said Farage was not formally invited to attend Portman Road. They say it was a private tour — booked through Portman Road Events — and they had no knowledge at the time of booking that it was for the leader of Reform. The same source stressed that there was no official club involvement, nor was he there to meet a senior official during his visit, which they said lasted around 30 minutes. That version of events was reported by other sections of the UK media. But evidence provided by a Reform source contradicts this version. The Athletic has seen a message sent by an associate of a senior club figure to a Reform official asking for a meeting with Farage during his visit to the town. | | | | |

FWIW I don’t think Ashton should be sacked, but I’d like to know the actual ins and outs of how exactly this came to be. |
He shouldn't be sacked but as the other person says, he must be ceo with a chairman over him.

Well colour me shocked, here is Lowhouseblue taking a contrary view to those he views as the leftist mob on TWTD. Pretty impressive head in sand stuff too, seeing how very clearly this has divided our support both on here and on other social media.

Well that sort of sums up my point tbh! It's clearly not just a handful of agitator types that are pissed off about this, and a cursory view of the board would make that clear.

neither here or town social media are terribly representative of very much at all in truth. active posters are very small and untypical minority. if you start to believe that twtd is just an ordinary slice of public opinion you'll end up with a very distorted view of the world.

I’ve long suspected that Mark Ashton is a snidey charlatan type - basically ever since I heard him tell the story about photographing some washing up without even a morsel of self-awareness.I also think he’s consistently gaslit the fan base over “stepping up” to buy more shirts etc., as if the club’s financial stability depends on sucking an additional few grand out of the working classes. So I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he has lied about this. It’s possible to think all this while still acknowledging the success he has brought the club. And it’s also possible to compute all of it and still arrive at the position that nobody should have free rein to lie and manipulate their way through their career without any accountability. If you hand somebody a free pass for this sort of thing, you’re heading down a dangerous road.

I reckon the Gamechanger crew couldn't give less of a monkeys. *Unless* there turns out to be financial ramifications, like sponsors pulling out. Then they might notice. In the US, money talks. The big corps will 'go woke' when it suits the bottom line, then turn on a pinhead the minute the wind changes.

In my opinion there is no way Ashton would’ve sanctioned this. He’s too concerned about commercial revenue to have let something like this happen that could seriously scupper that side of the club.

If that's the case, I'm struggling to work out which other 'Senior Club Official' it could be. If so, though, that particular person needs their P45 handing to them.

There's no chance reform and farage were allowed to do what they did without his knowledge, no chance.

It will have financial ramifications won’t it? Maybe not sponsors pulling out immediately, but it absolutely weakens our position for future sponsorship, transfers, shirt production, everything. I can’t imagine Halo, MSC, Umbro, Ed Sheeran etc. want to be associated with this and the same will go for future deals

I agre that it does seem out of character with Ashton, he is an experienced bloke who when he spoke about the Nunez deal said he wouldn't have done it because ti would be "too noisy". If that was noisy this is deafening. But who else would it have been.
