Apologies if this has been posted, I couldn't see it, but this is a very good piece by one of our own in the Guardian.
https://www.theguardian.com/fo

Especially interesting and important:

"Farage’s visit was openly discussed among the first-team players when they convened for training at their Playford Road base, several querying how he had been allowed to project himself from areas that are sacrosanct to them on a matchday. A diverse, particularly engaged squad was left unimpressed. It is the last thing Kieran McKenna needs, or deserves, as Ipswich prepare for an eight-game sprint towards promotion next month. Errors of this gravity touch every area of a club.

One wonders what the Albania international Anis Mehmeti, among a clutch of players away with their countries this week, made of Farage hanging a shirt on his peg at Portman Road. Farage has courted controversy in the past with comments about Albanians, making contested claims about the proportion currently in British prisons and taking aim at their contribution to an “invasion” by cross-channel migrants.

There was also distaste in seeing Farage parade around Ipswich’s home on the week that their women’s team, currently fighting to stay in the second tier, face Southampton in what has become an annual outing at Portman Road. That game, to be staged on Saturday, should draw a five-figure crowd but Farage’s past comments suggest he would hardly be endorsing it."

I think it's fairly well known that the Guardian is slightly to the right of centre, though I don't know Nick's personal politics.
I also feel it's moot here, given the substance of the article is factual and reports on responses, not opinion.

Thats absolutely fair, as is my right to add balance.

Imagine it might be something that you could shrug off if you'd migrated to England as an adult footballer. As an adult migrant in a secure economic position you can isolate yourself somewhat from the politics of the place you live and work in.

But Anis Mehmeti and Jaden Philogene were both born here, part of diaspora communities. Got to be worse for the players we've got whose parents migrated to Europe as ordinary folk fleeing war, political or economic insecurity.

Ashley Young, Darnell Furlong, Chuba Akpom and Kasey McAteer were all born here too.

I felt that this was a fairly consequential update, given the reporting directly from the players.

Apologies, it wasn't meant as a direct dig at you and it is a very interesting article which would probably be lost elsewhere. It's just thread after thread about it, particularly those who basically day the same thing just in a different way, gets a bit wearing after a while!

Its something that is totally missing from 90% of this site at the moment.

I appreciate that I'm no doubt making myself (more) unpopular with some in doing so, but Im not being abusive or resorting to name calling (apart from one particularly unpleasant attack on me by the lovely BigAl).

Thats all.

Unless I’ve missed something, aren’t the Guardian still left of centre?

I don't think so. Not in my reading, I can't think much they've done very left leaning for some time. Dead centre on a good day, usually - for me - slightly to the right when comparing with Europe wide politics and not our country's very shifted Overton window.

For some in Reform, they've made clear even if you are born here they don't consider you British.

As I put elsewhere:

Senior members of the club hierarchy (complicit or not) needs to give their heads a wobble, put their ego's to bed and own this balls up. As Lagos said: Apologise. Properly.

I don't care who made the decision. I don't care if they do actually support Reform, that is their right. What I do care about is them tarring our club with their personal political preferences and letting their ego's run away with themselves.

Explain what has gone wrong. After the lies we have heard so far, nothing other than complete transparency is going to cut it. Show some accountability and remorse for what is undeniably a huge mistake and something that has divided our fans more than any other issue in the clubs history.

And then, after all of that, start trying to earn back the trust of the fans who have every right to feel betrayed, upset and tarred by this. Quite what that looks like, I don't know, but the stain that the Skidmark Farage has left on our club is not going to wash out quickly or easily.

On a side note - this would be a great opportunity for the players to really connect with the fans and show solidarity. I would have the utmost respect for any player that stood up for the fans after the way the club has treated us. Now is the time to stand up and be counted - do they really want to be painted as Reform FC players? Better to stand up, speak up and move on rather than staying quiet and allowing themselves to be tarred by this brush.

And what we do know, is if anything we say is untrue, Farage will have the receipts.

They were videoing all day. I'm sure some of those edits might make it onto social media if we aren't careful.

Similarly with the 'invite'. Farage is spiteful as a human being, so if that exists it would also get shared. It's what he does.

The club were clearly involved, the removal of "no involvement" from the club statement vs what was messaged to the media all yesterday says as much.

It's a mess and one they allowed to run out of control by saying nothing for 9 hours.

Would this be a really bad time to point out the political way which both Nick and the Guardian lean.

Or is it fair to add context to his article ?

I cant find the rule book and I was just wondering about the etiquette.

(And the usual disclaimer, I really like Nick and his political preference makes not one jot of difference to me when he writes about town).
(Further disclaimer, Im not a farage supporter, reform member or a neo fascist apologiser or whatever Libero accused me of last night)

The Guardian is not a partisan pamphlet, it's a serious newspaper, and Nick has never disclosed his politics publicly in any detailed way so I'm not sure either party would have anything to declare – especially when the piece is packed with facts, some previously public and some not.

A 30 second trawl back through your posting history has you referring to other posters as ‘morons’ and ‘absolute tools’

Last evening, you bought me into a thread where I hadn’t even posted which is why I called you a ‘gob on a stump’

Seeing you going into overdrive on here today and making even more new friends I completely stand by that ‘unpleasant’ assessment.

Good for you.

I find your heart-warming yet somewhat bizarre obsession with me really strange, but each to their own.

How about you keep being you, I will keep being me and we ignore each other?

Deal;?

Interesting Ashton was sending out emails internally trying to douse the fire but has done nothing outwardly facing.

This whole episode has been such a masterclass in how not to operate your PR machine, how to sow division and distrust and how to let people down.

Big failure of leadership from the higher echelons of the club right now.

Think of all the supportes that have wives, husbands, extended family & friends that under Farage's policies wouldn't be welcome or even allowed in this country. And then some fans have the audacity to say some us are making a big deal of this. It is a big deal.

My wife was not born in the UK. She is wondering why the hell the club I commit so much time, energy and money to is welcoming an individual and organisation that despise people of her ilk. It puts me in an absolutely horrible situation and there will be thousands of fans in a similar situation in respect to friends and family.

This is why I have never felt so low and disgusted by the actions of my football club. It has welcomed a man / a political party that I absolutely loathe becuase if they had their way my life as it is wouldn't currently exist.

I've been a season ticket holder for as many years as I can remember but i geunuiely don't know if I'll return again this season unless the club can recognise what they have done and apologise and I can actually tell family this isn't what my club stand for, without it just being my words. The current club statement doesn't wash.

Correct. I'm thinking forward to the next after-work football session with my mates, some of who weren't born in the UK. I hardly feel like I can wear my Town shirt now!
