There’s no reason for, or history of, that poster making stuff up as far as I am aware. But no, I wasn’t there so don’t know if it’s true.

The actual post is here… All this just for the CEO's ego and wanting to meet Nigel Farage by Blue_Order 26 Mar 18:45Ashton threatened to “finish” our fans group for displaying ‘unauthorised banners inside HIS stadium’ during a recent meeting.
He was shouting and swearing at us for a good 45 minutes - we had to tell him to calm down and stop talking to us the way he was. Could tell from the (non) reaction of the other club staff present, it wasn’t the first time they’d seen him behave like that.
The whole meeting was wild and if I hadn’t have witnessed it myself, I probably wouldn’t have believed it.
If this is the end of him, then good riddance. Despite his good professional work, as a man, he’s never been fit to lead our great club.

When I asked why not go public it was clear the threats made by Ashton had their desired effect. Ashton is clearly a nasty piece of work when things don't go his way. Blue Action for me are a fantastic supporter led initiative and Ashton's arrogance and refusal to positively engage shows again how he is a control freak who should be nowhere near our club.

This is how manipulators and abusers continue, in workplaces or other realms. By making people too scared to speak up, thereby preventing others learning about experiences and people who have had similar experiences sharing testimony or joining the dots. I teach at a university that had to go through a two year process to remove some systemic abuse and bad behaviour from just a few people, but enough to break the whole institution and trust within it. I think there is probably a slight shift in the power dynamic now.

100% Ashton is toast, I'll be amazed if he's in post in 6 months time. Forced to apologise but not remotely sincere and clinging on to his position, for now. I'd encourage BA to be bold but it's not my call. There's a fine line between being a voice when people will throw the "support the team" line. Always been thus, was the case when people spoke out against MEs ownership. Some fans simply don't like conflict or dissent or indeed change.

Well said. Ashton’s teetering on the brink - not sure he’ll be gone by next season, but if he did take any action against BA from now on, I think the outrage from other fans could be the final straw for his tenure here, and he wouldn’t take the risk. But as you say, it’s BA’s call.

The absolute bare minimum that the owners need to do here is to take the Chairmanship off him, appoint an experienced Chair who isn't a pushover, and make it clear to him, privately, that he is on his last warning. Anything less, after this, says "You are unsackable and untouchable" and is likely to embolden him to seek revenge against any who have challenged him over this.

I honestly think that this is hideously wishful thinking. I really hope you are right, but I suspect, unless there are further revelations yet to come out, that this is seen as done and dusted. Sad to say, but I can no longer trust a word out of the man's mouth. To think I would have been of this mindset just 3 days ago is unthinkable. It makes me sad.

I thought he’d be done this weekend. 6 months time… let’s say we’re promoted, hard to see him gone then. There’s no one to get rid of him while the owners are so “hands off” when it comes to the operational side of things — they just want the PL money coming in. And who knows, maybe they’d be happy with Farage as PM. I remember when we were 1-0 down at home to Fleetwood, just before lockdown — in year 10 or whatever of the Marcus Evans reign! — and there was a big “Get out of our club” chant going, but also a sizeable chunk of fans saying “no, it could be worse” and trying to get the chant stopped. The other thing I’m worried about is it encourages the rightwing part of our support. On the whole, I think we’re pretty good as a set of fans — maybe the odd boo at taking the knee, but good. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if a Nigel Farage is a blue chant is started. We’ve already seen a bunch of previously very quiet accounts appear here in the last few days. Could change the atmosphere completely. All in all, depressing. Really good blog posts, by the way.

Why I think he's toast? He has damaged our Brand. Next time we do a shirt sponsorship, we will be limited in that an awful lot of potential shirt sponsors wouldn't now touch us with a barge pole. Would you recommend your own soft drink/international brand to your board as wanting to be associated with "Ipswich Town" as things stand? So that means we get less for our commercial deals. Which means less money for the team and less value for the investors. The powers that be, potential sponsors and worst, agents will all understand that. No way that apology was genuine, just look at his eyes...liars always look away when they are saying something they don't believe. It was forced on him and was as genuine as his usual corporate guff. He's an over promoted bullsh1tter and worse, a bully. Poor judgement, lack of integrity and now he's damaged the clubs standing. Those in positions of power aren't stupid. Yep, they've been taken in previously but the game is well and truly up.

I don’t recall at any point during the ‘apology’ there being any mention of the impact his actions may have had on sponsors, main ones and other large sponsors, having their logos featured throughout the reform video without permission. We’ve not heard what damage may have been caused to them - that would’ve usually been trumpeting their links to the club across socials, celebrating the good of the foundation fixture last week, but have had to opt to stay silent instead, to distance their association with the club.

100%. They'll be livid. "Come be our sponsor, we'll promise to try and ensure you'll not be mocked up in Nazi memes, lessons have been learned." Not the best sales pitch, but good luck to whoever has to work on that one.

Surely our owners, no matter how hands-off they may be in the running of the Club, at least care at the very minimum about any drop- off in its income? Aren’t some of the stakeholders/board hedge-fund organisations? If sponsorship and sales from merchandise etc fall, you can bet they will notice and take action , so we fans can have a bit of influence. Sadly, I think the outcome could depend on promotion - go up & they’ll allow Ashton to stay; remain in the Championship & they’ll ask him to go. What a terrible, double-edged position for the majority of fans (according to my second poll, 67% want Ashton sacked, another 5% want him to resign, and only 24% want him to stay).

I would imagine, if this hasn’t caused damage to their brand, given the whole ethos, values and culture the business has been built on, that halo would continue for some time, thus not needing to seek new sponsors for a while.
