I can’t believe that a construction site is making noise, who’d have thought it. Just got to put up with it for a few more months and then I’m sure the car parking issues will be sorted once it’s all done. https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/ This story first came out during the Farage stuff so may have been missed https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/ https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/ [Post edited 8 Apr 14:29]

| People moaning about the training ground usage and construction works… on 14:53 - Apr 8 with 2447 views | wrightsrightglove | Classic NIMBYism. If it wasn’t for the club they’d have a new build development numbering in the hundreds of houses going up over several years and eventually looking into their gardens. A few months of people parking (presumably legally) outside your house and a bit of noise between 8 and 5 is inconvenient but hardly worth causing a fuss over | | | |
| People moaning about the training ground usage and construction works… on 14:57 - Apr 8 with 2398 views | blueoutlook | I read this at the time, but it did get lost amongst the other news at the time. I think it’s the early starts and the parking that is really getting up people’s noses. I can understand it. We live near a school that has been having extensive work done to it almost a year now, and what with traffic problems, huge lorries and equipment trying to get through it’s beginning to get on everyone’s nerves too. | | | |

Hardly, they've ripped out a big leylandii hedge which blocked out the floodlights and now the houses next door have high powered lighting blasting into their homes until late at night. That sort of thing is a real blight on peoples lives.

Based on the photos, that seems to be the big one. It's a little disappointing that the club seems to be batting it away by saying that light levels are within an acceptable range, and that they got planning permission for the works. There's a big difference between relying on the letter of the law, and engaging with the spirit of legislation and being a good neighbour. Surely it wouldn't take much to put some suitable mitigation in place?

They’ve arranged a meeting with the local residents at the training ground at the end of the month. Sure they could put something on the lights to deflect it a bit, they do it on street lights outside peoples houses.

That’s a poor planning department or DMC then. Here a step five club had to put fencing up to divert light from a housing development built between the Astro planning going in and actually being built - so the requirement is clearly there in planning law.

Yup, it's a 10pm meet - floodlights will be on.

If they are leylandii, they are an absolute menace. They grow like crazy (over a metre a year) and outward too swallowing space. They are a real menace to buildings and are best rid of. The residents have been done a favour. It’ll be all sorted within a couple of months anyway, but hopefully the club can do something about the parking and the lights. Perhaps drape a few Farage 10 shirts over them to dim them a bit. Only joking!!!

Where was the leylandii hedge and which floodlights are you referencing? Are they complaining about lights used for the construction work or those used on some of the pitches? There were previously no hedges between the garden and the new office construction pictured in the Ipswich Star. Edit: Just seen the floodlights picture. Those are around one of the match pitches so nothing to do with the construction work in itself, other than the removal of the hedge. Those are not new but could definitely be better shaded. Mind you those houses in Eaton Place were only built around 2014 so I have less sympathy for people living there who bought new houses in full knowledge of the training ground location than the likes of those in the Mills that are considerably older. But not surprisingly disappointing. Sadly I wouldn't expect anything else.

Perhaps in a house garden setting yes, but they were perfectly fine where they were. It looks very open now they've removed them. They have planted what look like 3 or 4 year old trees in their place but obviously there's about 10 years before they do any real light blocking.

The trees they have planted are actually much nicer than the leylandii they ripped out, but the leylandii did have the advantage of blocking out some of the light all year round.

How would they manage to do that, when the coffee cup is never seen out of hand? Oh, you mean the people parking there

At first glance, this is environmental vandalism and shows little regard for the local residents.

Planning permission would have been needed for the flood lights , and presumably any significant upgrade would need further permissions. Guess those affected can plant replacements on their land. [Post edited 9 Apr 12:39]

If you'd ever actually tried to slash tyres, (which you definitely haven't), then you would know that it's not that easy. What you want is a pair of secateurs and snip all the valves off. [Post edited 9 Apr 13:11]

| People moaning about the training ground usage and construction works… on 13:13 - Apr 9 with 332 views | Vic | Great shame that the club seem to have given up on serious community engagement. What would it take for someone from the club to go round to the neighbours and have a friendly word, and maybe offered to put up a temporary screen of some kind? It's the little things! It was so refreshing when GM took over that they went out of their way to connect with people, and got most PR right. I'm a bit concerned that may just have been window dressing and MA's little sayings about being the best version of ourselves, etc, were just that - sayings, without substance. He certainly isn't being the best version of himself currently. or maybe he is, and it;s just that his best version isn't actually very good. [Post edited 9 Apr 13:14]
