Give Nunez a break 14:23 - Apr 11 with 3856 viewsJ2BLUE

Yes it was daft but he clearly cares and was desperate to give Town fans a magic moment.

Laugh it off and enjoy the result.

It worked ok but bad mgmt imo. 60th minute when it was flat was really poor decision.

It was flat but it also fired up the town players as well plus Norwich lost some of their focus as well.

He could’ve been sent-off but wasn’t.

Of course he should - but he wasn't. He wound them up, KM called him off. Job well done.

It was unprofessional from him and Davis. And weak from the ref not to give them the second yellows.

But I trust McKenna to deal with it. The official's decisions fell our way today and that was nice.

As Dara just said, when decisions go your way they are always welcome.

The ref failed to book Cordoba for handling the ball in the similar incident moments earlier - the card there was shown to Azon for waving an imaginary card - so couldn't book Davis for the same offence. Nunez was lucky, but trying to get him sent off seemed to be the main focus for Norwich for a spell rather than trying to get back into the game.

The potential second one for Davis was kicking the ball away wasn't it?

Are we sure Azon was booked? I thought he was but Sky said it was Cordoba. No one seems to be reporting the Azon yellow but the club did tweet he was carded. Opta not showing him with a yellow though.

He's a Bl00dy idiot and that's what most people should/will think. 2 challenges he didn't have to make and should have been sent off. Its embarrassing really.

Thankfully didn't matter and so will be forgotten/forgiven.

When you say give him a break, its not like we're all going to gather around his house and attack him.

Ah well, if that's the case it changes it in the context of Davis. I missed that.

I did feel that the ref didn't have a proper grip on the game but it was a difficult one to officiate because of the players' determination to influence him.

Absolutely...they spent at least 15 mins trying to do that and the phrase "in your head" couldnt have applied more... he was lucky but i think the ref also knew he was being provoked which might have just worked on our favour!... but weve had many moments when stuff has gone against us... and i STILL would rather the game be played in the moment than sterilised by VAR.

Davis deliberately handled in the same way Cordoba had (so if Sky had been right it was a clear yellow) and then kicked the ball away as well. His first was for losing his head after not getting a foul he wanted. I thought it was unprofessional of Davis. Both he and Nunez lost their composure.

Was definitely Azon, think Opta got it wrong, which is why the stats say Cordoba everywhere. And Sky's angle made it look like Cordoba, but it was Azon. Cordoba was very lucky not to get booked for kicking out at Hirst in the first half when Hirst got booked.

The BBC says Cordoba booked and Azon not too. I assume they all get their information from the same place. I guess it'll be amended via the referee's report, if not before.

I think the claim from Norwich fans was for the handball in the context of the incident on the other side of the pitch. He threw it towards the keeper, if I remember rightly, and so I don't think it would have been seen as holding play up. Probably not wise to give the referee a decision to make, though.

Yes, all the stats tend to come from Opta. But it was clear from where we were that it was Azon that was booked.

Thanks, Phil, helpful to know and changes the context of Davis' situation a lot. Still lost his rag too easily for me.

Three fouls right?

The first two were pretty minor and if it hadn’t all kicked off he wouldn’t have been on a card. The third was bone headedly stupid, being the sort of niggly foul that is just asking for a booking.

Reading the comments on here I’d thought he’d run around like a lunatic crashing into people, but he just made his sheet-housery much too obvious.

He’s alright for me

Well he should have also had an assist, Azon has to score that, luckily it didn’t cause us any harm. Similar to Hirst in the first half really, he made up for it a few seconds later though which was crucial.

The last foul should 100% been a booking and McKenna was right to sub him. We’ve played up to the Nunez stuff and it’s been fun, done the double but the really important aspect of the signing is the part he’s played and will continue to play across the season in helping us (hopefully) secure top 2!

Agree.

He is clearly a passionate player. He was booked for his first foul because Darling ran over and gave him a push to get a reaction. Given the melee, the referee probably felt he had to book them both. From that point on, he was walking a tightrope.

McKenna saw it and did what any good manager would do, he took him off. The fact he reacted positively, smiling on the bench and being front and centre of the celebrations, shows the team winning was far more important to him.

Non-issue.
