The match day price is part of why I suspect there is around 6K, or will be if promoted, on the waiting list. They're not people who don't attend now, but those who go but have to pay a significantly higher price than season ticket holders and even then don't get a guaranteed ticket. There haven't been many matches this season with less than 27K - 21K season ticket holders + 6K more.

3 games under 27k, average for the season so far is 28.2k, which is 95% of available capacity. The average number of unfilled seats is only 1,200 less than the PL season.

And remember you don't have many mid-week fixtures on a grim winter's day in the PL, which will account for a chunk of that 1,200.

Indicators are that the demand is still there, and will jump when we're back in the PL.

If I ever wonder whether I did the right thing, I pop onto LinkedIn and immediately realise that I definitely made the right decision.

Ashton is the absolute epitome of every reason I couldn’t work there (or anywhere) anymore.

Hate.

A lot of people underestimate the importance of matchday revenue. Of course, this is looking at the very biggest clubs, but it's a fallacy to say matchday revenues are insignificant.

That is the reality of the sport today, and the model owners/investors are looking at.

17-24% of revenue from match day sales for most of the PL clubs listed...

[Post edited 16 Apr 15:35]

Ah yes. But putting them up 12% isn't that much really is it. Take Arsenal, one of the top %'s of matchday revenue.

22% of revenue going up 12% = 2.64%.

£183m x 12% is £22m roughly. At their level, that'll be someones wages for a year maybe. Or a 1/3rd of a player.

In the whole scheme of things, its not that much. Not to p!ss the fans off anyway. But they'll have people lined up for tickets swo they don't really care...!

As an old git without a mobile just phoned the ticket office to see if if there will be any alternative. They told me yes there will be and further information will be issued in due course.

On the plus side, it might help reduce the abuse of the away ticketing system if there's not a physical ticket to sell to someone else.

It's a very rough calculation (add up the price for each area/set of areas, and then take an average) but, as an interesting point of comparison:

Average adult ST at Bayern München - £426.45 (£96 - £774)
Average adult ST at ITFC - £563.32 - (£339 - £926)

To quote former Bayern president Uli Hoeneß:

“We could charge more than €120 per season ticket. If we charge €350 per season ticket we would get €2m extra, but what does that mean for us?

The difference for a fan between €120 and €350 is enormous and we do not believe that fans are like cows, which are milked.

Football has to be for everyone. That is the biggest difference between us and England.”

Not a fan of all this- buying a ticket should mean it’s yours to do with as you please, I was similarly unimpressed last season when the club sold mine and my great uncles season ticket seats for a game because they thought based off of something someone else said to them that we wouldn’t be attending - we infact did intend to attend but realised they’d sold our tickets in the process of looking to upgrade one of the tickets.

Ashton’s “use it or lose it” attitude was the first crack for me, I didn’t expect him to be dining with quasi fascists, but I knew he was a bit of an egg from there on.

"Like many decisions made by our self obsessed, walking cliche of a CEO/Chairman, it isn’t a good look."

Do you reckon we'll get a "Trust me on this" at the next fan's forum?

And then some bulsh1t about how we need to do this to invest in players and ignoring all of the other questions about exactly how we are doing that at the moment.

I think it's wonderful that we get to pay the players agents fees.

Thanks Mark.

I can see the following happening:

Any new ST sold to the waiting 6000 will not be priced in alignment with these renewal prices, IMO they will be charged at 45-50 GBP per month [based on 12m DD]

Aim overall will be to get everyone up that level eventually over 2-3 years.

My biggest worry is the price of the individual matchday ticket, starting at 34 GBP per match currently, where will that go? 40? We will see...

'IF' we go up and are cannon fodder same as last season I wonder how many folk will want to shell out £40+ quid to watch up being bent over by a Fulham, Brentford, etc?

Games against the big teams will sell out regardless as the PL fanboy types will buy tickets but the less lights I'm not so sure.

Plus a healthy number in attendance for most games will be non-ST holders purchasing ST seats, rather than simply ST holders accounting for 21K of any attendance figure. Even moreso for midweeks. Agree with you both, suspect demand remains healthy on the outside, even if below the touted figure should we remain in this league.

You also have the 1K+ restricted view seats, £5 cheaper, naturally less attractive than seeing all of the game would be for the extra fiver, or with a clear view at per-game ST prices (would need to be a big game for me to sit behind a post personally if I were in that position, rather than watch outside the ground through other means; Boro would very much be one of them).

Many clubs have now released their early bird renewal prices. Boro's prices are between £540-701 for an adult. Millwall's between £419-541. Swansea's £440 everywhere. At £469-747 for normal blocks, we've brought ourselves up to the more expensive in the Championship, which is where they'd argue we should be to reflect "the product" on offer. 🤢

I get its an increase but our ST prices have been really low compared to most championship of PL clubs (and indeed lower) so we have been fortunate. I think I compared mine to Braintree a while ago and there was very little in it. We can also pay in monthly instalments interest free which is unlike most clubs and works out quite reasobable (in my opinion).

I'd assume that's part of the thinking behind it also. No more lending your ticket to a friend if you can't make it, you have to put it up for resale.

It will be like it is now - you can send a digital ticket to one of your friends and family insofar they have an account number

Also to be fair, we're one of the few clubs that offer a 12 months interest-free direct debit option.

For me that's a massive benefit and probably allows the club to get away with a 14% increase. My ST has gone up from £45.91 to £52.33 per month, the cost of a pint. That's the way I look at it anyway.

This is me too - I've been paying £45 a month for me and the boy a month. Less than a takeaway or a few drinks at the pub. I see that as quite reasonable as things go

Yeah, I was thinking my increase of £50 for the season is equivalent to a night out.
12% looks bad on the face of it, but less so when you apply context. We had several seasons of no increases.

And a mate has just told me we're still cheaper to watch than Colchester!

But will it, I'd suggest the football this year hasn't been on par with previous good seasons and will get worse if we are in the premier league. Last time the novelty factor (many had never seen ups play in the prem) meant you could put with not winning for a period of time but I think people will quickly get fed up when we lose game after game in the top flight.

I don't believe this 6k are genuine in terms of they will put there money where their mouth is.
