Smart play for at most 4 or 5m, played a lot of mins last season be a good move to bring in a PL exp GK

As a back up I hope. I’d be concerned if we thought of him as a number 1.

I can see a lot of sense in it - former ITFC season ticket holder, ending his PL career where it all began etc.

£5m is nothing either.

His distribution has always been a big issue, which to me suggests we're looking at the five-man defence again next season and adopt that more pragmatic style.

It's more direct in the prem now, so less emphasis on keeper distribution. Not convinced we'll play 5 at the back but we certainly played better last time with 5.

I'd be very happy with this signing if he can stay fit!

I would be very happy with this transfer

Will have to wait to see if Phil “ understands “ if it’s true

Heard there was a big feeling he was past his best.

Not overly sold on it, would prefer a keeper at a good age with scope to grow not someone who’s on the way down.

Maybe we see him as a value pick-up at £5m, leaving us more money to spend on the midfield and attack?

We will have competition for his signature from Leeds and maybe an other so we need to make it an attractive offer.

It’s the sort of business that we should be looking to do so let’s hope we can get it done.

Almost 250 Premier League appearances and 10 international caps, worth £5m for his experience alone.

I see why they would be interested in Pope but my goodness his decision making as a goalkeeper is mental at times. Not great with his feet, rushes off his line a lot and has a habit of playing Newcastle in to trouble.

Good experience though I guess and his shot stopping still probably above average.

I would like to think our recruitment team could do a bit better.

Yeah quite possibly but goalkeeper is such an important position we need someone good in there.

He’s automatically homegrown, as that is a player developed by any club in England.

You’re probably thinking about ‘club developed’. I’m not sure about that - he may have been released too young. I’ll need to check the criteria.

Edit: the way I read it, he would be both counted as ‘homegrown’ and ‘club developed’.

Injury prone, best days behind him, poor with his feet and lets too many soft ones in.

Would rather have Walton.

I have some similar concerns - he’s better than Walton, with good PL experience, I’m just not sure he’s better by enough of a margin. His injury recorded isn’t so bad, especially the last couple of years - it’s better than Walton’s.

His stats suggest he’s very good as a sweeper keeper - one of the best in PL, but (very) poor with his long ball distribution. So not sure how people measure being ‘good with his feet’, but the stats suggest he’s pretty handy for a team that plays out from the back.

It doesn’t say exactly which stat they are listing there, but I’m guessing it’s the delta between xGA and actual GA. Not the best way to judge a ‘keeper, as xGA is a team statistic, so not just contributed to by the ‘keeper.

His shot stopping stat is 70%, which is very good.

A good shot stopper, but not very good with ball at feet, poor distribution, prone to a goalkeeping blunder…it’s Muric 2.0!

Walton has had a good season but lacks PL experience. Pope has PL and national team experience but had a poor season. I’m not sure we are improving things by signing him.

I’d be a bit miffed if I was Walton seeing reports of us being linked with a goalkeeper who is very likely to replace him at no 1.
