Poll: Is Micheal Mcintyre actually funny?

Some absolutely wild comparisons going on here between Christian Walton, who wasn't even the best keeper in the Championship last season, and a guy with with more than 200 appearances for decent Prem teams.

The one thing we lacked last time more than anything else was PL experience and nous. He’s got that in spades. It’s baby steps - this strengthens us and could be quite an influence signing depending on the final make up of our keeper team. Not a flashy move, but a sensible one. We won’t be getting a delicate flower with confidence issues.

Speculative but not impossible, I'm told.

As first choice??

Almost 250 Premier League appearances and 10 international caps, worth £5m for his experience alone.

Injury and error prone with just a year left on his contract? If Newcastle manage to burgle £5m for him they’ll be rolling in the aisles.

A decent back up for maybe £1m, maybe £2m max is where I see him.

It doesn’t say exactly which stat they are listing there, but I’m guessing it’s the delta between xGA and actual GA. Not the best way to judge a ‘keeper, as xGA is a team statistic, so not just contributed to by the ‘keeper.

His shot stopping stat is 70%, which is very good.

Save percentage isn’t particularly useful gauge of how good a keeper is because it doesn’t take into account the quality of the shot faced.

The stat listed on that table will be post-shot xG minus goals conceded, which is more relevant to a keeper’s quality.

I’m not sure you’re right about what that list of numbers represents, but it does illustrate why people should add context to any stats posted. What exactly is the stat, and where does it come from. Why I doubt it is PSxG-GA is because most of the reputable stats sites don’t have this season’s PSxG numbers available. Even XGstat, which is a subscription service, and considered one of the best, does not have the data yet.

All I could find is generated using DataMB, which is not the best for data, but does allow custom chart generation.

Without some form of reference, it’s flawed to take randomly posted ‘stats’ on social media.

Vicario is regarded as one of the best keepers in the PL. 3 Italian sides have registered an interest if he wants to leave Spurs.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

He is no way on earth ever regarded as one of the best keepers in the Prem. He has been utter gash for 2 seasons now and most Spurs fans want him gone.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Yeah quite possibly but goalkeeper is such an important position we need someone good in there.

He is good! Or is 250 Prem appearances not good enough for us? At this point Id say it is - unless Hess really declined in the last year of so.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Agreed. I think we be in danger of over egging the ability of some of our current players - as we did last time we went up. If Walt’s is better than Pope some Prem teams would be looking to sign him. Not a chance. I like him and he’s decent. But Pope would surely be an upgrade.

I’ve not said he isn’t good. I’ve heard from a few Newcastle teams that he’s on the decline.

I’m not sure we want someone On the way done imo.

It's difficult, but wasn't muric, and similar 'on the up'?

They may have higher ceilings(being tall they need them!!) But younger players are more susceptible to dips in form affecting them etc, I think I may prefer an older head who has played a shed load of top level games and for England 10 times over a young kid or an unproven European type.

Is it greedy or harsh on Walton to ask for both? Get in Pope and look for a higher ceiling young potentially great keeper from Europe or wherever.

You can see this from his radar chart - good distribution, but goddamn awful in defending his goal.

Makes sense at the price. Looked be be very low on confidence after his injuries.

Not a bad signing. But does look like lazy recruitment - and that is a problem. Same as last time.

If you didn’t play in a league in sky or in the EFL we won’t be signing you.

Where our telnet ID department, any bloke in a pub could scout Pope.

We don’t look like a business with hundreds of millions over several years to build an elite process.

It’s almost like Ashton and his rolladex again. Sake.

Paul Cooper made double that number of appearances in the top flight. How about him? Doesn’t have to run about and was good with his feet so ticks the boxes for me.

Enough facetiousness from me, on a serious note the only question is how good is he now? When I saw him on tv now and again for Newcastle last season he looked decidedly shaky but then so did they.

And also, not all our signings will be complete unknowns.
Funnily enough, the best players play in leagues that are on Sky.
But then Darkhorse has to have a moronic take/pop at the club on everything.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He’s on ignore. There’s little point wasting time reading relentless and repeated negativity. There’s not been one instance where he’s said anything positive about the club that I can remember.

Still, I presume by posting he’s over the triple disappointment of two derby defeats and our promotion.

Is he better than what we have? On balance yes, IDK if he's on the decline, at 34 you'd say hes probably just past his peak so probably but even if he has one season as 1st choice, if it keeps up (massive if I know) we wont care.

Is he better than Walton, I'd say yes. If hes available for £5m I think he's overpriced but equally I think its not a huge outlay for what feels like an upgrade, he certainly strengthens the GK unit as a whole and brings much needed experience without taking up a big chunk of our transfer budget. Makes a lot of sense to me

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again
