| GON having a second - more detailed viewing of the new training ground today 11:23 - Jun 26 with 7826 views | Billywitch | To my surprise, we (the people working onsite) have been told strictly nobody is to speak to him or those with him, even if we are spoken to. If we do we risk being escorted off site. Others working here have told me that this is common practice when working here, with the same rules applied to the players before/after training. There must be 20 season ticket holders, and regular away fans on this site. Was excited to start this next few weeks of work, bit of a dampener on it now. | | | | |

He doesn't have to talk like that to the wider fanbase, but I suppose if it's in your vocabulary day in, day out, it's hard to move away from. Just take what you need from what he says, and forget the fluff, that's what I do. Good that he's moved away from 'Your Football Club' to 'The Football Club' Small steps.... |
Yes it is and I suspect he doesn’t even know he’s doing it or if he does, doesn’t care. Dealing with it was a question of reading the message between the twaddle of bite size chunks, peeling the onion, bottom up planning, low hanging fruit, quick wins, bandwidth, paradigms and blue sky ffing thinking Tbh soundbites and media stuff - I’m not very interested. It’s what they actually do that counts. I’ve met so many people over the years that can talk but cannot do what’s required. I’m sure the staff will have got used to his ‘language’ over five years. Good to work for? Bad? Absolutely no idea. Is the club growing and facilities improving? Are we getting stronger on the field? Can we win more than one home game next season? That’s what matters to me.

The club talks of culture. Now if the training ground is to be seen as THE place to work then sure keep it entirely professional. It also limits potential slip ups during conversations. |
If it’s true, it would be utterly bonkers and a sign of a very unhealthy environment. I’ve no idea if it’s true though, so won’t be worrying about it.

Would it? People are expected to be professional. Also, who told them this? The club or the contractor wanting to front run any potential issues to get future work? It wasn't Ashton or the OP would have said so.

It seems utterly bonkers to me whether issued by the club or contractor. It’s amusing though to think someone may (if true) be treating their staff like Trappist Monks.

Its quite normal Accordung to online sources "5 sitesIpswich Town FC imposes strict site rules for external contractors working at Portman Road and the training ground, which explicitly include a non-engagement policy. External workforce members are forbidden from initiating casual conversations, asking for autographs, or taking photos with players and coaching staff" Football clubs strictly enforce these boundaries to maintain a secure, professional, and focused environment for the athletic staff. Violation of these protocols frequently results in the immediate removal of the contractor from the site. Specific Playford Road Rules Zero Player/Staff Contact: Do not talk to, shout at, or seek autographs/selfies from players, coaching staff, or executives anywhere on the 33-acre complex. Manchester United (Carrington): United enforces an incredibly strict site induction policy. Contractors must sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and face an immediate lifetime ban from all club properties if they interact with first-team players or staff. [Post edited 26 Jun 14:49]

They had Madonna visiting to do some shooting. He was told pretty much the same instruction. Even when she asked him for a bottle of water, he said nothing as he fetched and handed it over. I know Madonna and GON aren't quite the same level of 'VIP' but seems like the same principle.

The man in charge of the site, you'd guess that he hasn't just decided this off his own back though. Just so petty in my opinion. As I say, is a big deal for myself and other fans to work somewhere like this. Just feels a bit like we aren't good enough to be here. Maybe I'm being too soft, and have a romantic idea of ITFC. Long gone are the days of biking to Portman Road and watching training sessions and chatting with the players

To be honest, if this is the case, the training ground from what I hear was behind schedule, so they probably just want everyone all hands on deck, not chewing the fat about a potential striker, who's apparently mustard, from the German Second Division

I can really only comment on what I am here to do, which I believe is 10/12 days behind where they'd like to be at this point. Going to be lovely though, whilst not industry leading it'll certainly be a massive step up from where we were and hopefully take us to the next level.

If you watched the GON behind the scenes video you will have noticed that in the professional environment at the ground, MA explicitly told all members of staff present to greet GON and tell him their name. Certainly wasn't suggesting they don't speak, quite the opposite.

It's pretty standard everywhere but can understand how it feels cold when you're caught up in it. However, these rules aren't put in place because of every day, well-meaning people. There is always the potential for one person to overstep the boundaries. Hope you're not burning up too much working up there. I'm sweating like a pig just working from home.

| GON having a second - more detailed viewing of the new training ground today on 15:45 - Jun 26 with 540 views | Nutkins_Return | This is some jobs worth over interpreting a request and worries about not getting caught out. Zero chance there would be any impact for responding if spoken to that's just silly. I'm not questioning what you were told btw it's just I don't think that's the real request/expectation and someone has given you all a stupid over the top version of policy. I do reckon there would be a policy of not disrupting the playing squad/manager to contractors. That's normal and stops people distracting them with questions or worse autographs etc (sounds silly but it would be necessary). I've worked in elite sporting environments where the things like not taking photos has to be be made clear to contractors etc. and it has to be made clear because of the amount of people that do believe it appropriate to take photos of sensitive stuff because it's cool because it's a Sporting environment/they are fans etc. people posted stuff on their social media and I remember one person just showing his family around like that was a normal thing to do without permission. Just to re-iterate I'm not doubting the OP here. I just don't believe there would be any issues about responding if spoken to. We had similar but could have a laugh and a joke/conversation with people FFS. Don't take it personal anyway if you can (I know from the sound it it that seems impossible) but that hasn't come from GON. EDIT: Saw after you put about the no photo thing as well.
