Fken driving instructor for me son's test tomorrow

"Alright mate, sorry i can't do tomorrow morning session but I can meet you there to let you use the car"

I know my lad is ok about the test, but not having a lesson before hand i'm worried it's gonna throw him right off.

In regards to taking him out myself, my car's Auto so i cant.

Anyone had instances of taking the test without a lesson prior? I had an hour myself and it just seemed to be the norm

People have a lesson before their test? Either you can drive or you can't by that stage. Instructor must be confident as he put him in for the exam.

It's like the warm-up before a match, or nets in cricket, just to get your eye in.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

He'll be fine. Also, the last thing he needs is you showing any nerves, so make sure you bring the positive vibes.

Or foreplay. Although that’s too early to get your eye in.

I didn't do a lesson before. Think I got 1 minor.

The day I did mine, there was an examiner examiner in the back. Think the bloke taking the test was more nervous than me.

I passed, despite stalling at a roundabout, but only because I'd been warned by the driving instructor that if they start getting you to pull over and drive away for no apparent reason, it's because they think you aren't looking enough. So I started very obviously gawping in the mirrors, rather than just glancing.

I knew someone who was an examiner years ago. A guy turned up in a neck brace and couldn't turn his head from side to side. At the first T junction coming out of the test centre he brought out a mirror to look left and right and failed there and then.

I took my test in the snow.

I had been driving dumpers and forklifts on a building site for about a year beforehand, the driving instructor reckons that wasn’t a good thing though.

I’m sure your Son will be fine.

Nearly. The driving schools car wouldn’t start, swapped to a vehicle I had not driven before had no more than 10 minutes before test. Vauxhall Viva felt so different from the Ford Anglia I was used to.

Was convinced wouldn’t pass but did. The most scary part was after Instructor handed me the keys explaining he someone to see could I just park it outside the Driving school, which was not far away.

Test centre was Station Road Cambridge, driving schools was on Hills Road.

Good effort. That’s probably tricky to do, I only got a couple of OAPs but they move slower than minors.

Try and look at the positives of it…

Straight into the test fresh, nothing from that lesson before to put him off for whatever reason.

He must’ve been deemed competent for a test so sure he will be fine.

Tell him to just take it easy, always look in the mirrors and don’t speed

not always, they're quite keen that you occasionally look out of the windscreen!

A little bit of stress pre-test is probably good. For me, I was taking the test at 8:50 in the morning... my Instructur told me that was a great time, as the road outside the centre would be busy, which would force a left turn and there was only one route, so we could practice it, and know exactly what to expect. He hadn't factored in that it was half term, so on the day, no traffic, turned right, and had to go down roads I'd never been. I was really panicked, did a not great reverse park and assumed I'd failed... relaxed, and turned out to pass with only a couple of minor faults.

Took me four appointments to pass, but no lessons beforehand.

Snow - cancelled; no Examiner (ill) - cancelled; fail; pass (April 1st, hahahaha).

I did have two "lessons" with parents, one each, but they didn't enjoy it (and were both godawful drivers anyway, I didn't know at the time).

How'd he get on?

Not the point of the post, but for some reason thought you were in your early-mid twenties!

Sorry to hear that. He will get it done next time!

My dad on his second driving test accidentally drove the wrong way down a one way street within a minute of starting. He said to the test dude ‘I’ve obviously failed, let’s call it a day’. Test Examiner said ‘No, you must complete the test!’ ‘Ok’ said my dad. He then gave the Examiner 25 minutes of hell. Foot down, up on kerbs, a handbrake turn, wrong side of the road, jumping lights, the lot. Mirror Signal Manoeuvre? Nope.

The Examiner reeled from the car at the end of the test. He didn’t bother to say whether it was a pass or fail, strangely. My dad did pass on his next attempt. We all get there in the end.
