You're awfully cocky for someone who's team got out the open top bus for finishing 9th.

| Judging by some of the reaction after a friendly game on 17:26 - Aug 1 with 902 views | The_Major | Many, many years ago, I remember reading in When Saturday Comes either an article or a letter with regards to pre-season friendlies. It was written by a Cambridge fan who said that he attended a match against us in preseason 1980 when he was about eight. Cambridge won 1-0, and as they left the Abbey, the writer turned to his father and said āWow, I reckon those Ipswich players are going to get yelled at nowā, to which his father gave out a hearty guffaw and gently explained that the response would probably be a shrug of the shoulders, checking that nobody had picked up at any knocks, and continue to prepare for the coming season. (Which given it was 1980/81 didnāt turn out too bad) I loved the next line which read along the lines of āAs soon as my father told me that, my visions of an enraged Bobby Robson pouring tea on Kevin Beattieās perm evaporatedā. Wasnāt there also one year we were (relatively) successful when we had an abysmal pre-season? Iāve got the Lyall title season of 1991/92 in my head, but could be very wrong indeed. Even if Norwich beat us in the Willhire or Hospital Cups, I donāt think folk were too rattled. | | | |

| Judging by some of the reaction after a friendly game on 15:57 - Aug 1 by berkstractorboy | Having been at the Oxford game I feel that was just a waste of a pre-season friendly and feel sorry for Kipre and J Clarke. Too many players out of position and too many that looked like they can't be arsed. I know we have injuries, integrating players, and others too come in, it just seemed a waste of a time. Seems like GON is just focussed on the Wycombe game when you compare the split squads. It doesn't mean too much but shows our depth of squad is very weak when we were outfought and outrun by L1 players. |
Its about building fitness and team building, its not a waste of time even if the end result is not the kind of game you want to see.

They are literally playing their Marquee friendly as their final warms today. We are just playing for minutes. There are probably 5 starters against Sunderland that we donāt even own yet. There are probably 5 or playing today who wonāt be here in 3 weeks time. If people are losing their sh!t now Christ knows how they will be once we are getting our arees kicked at Anfield and the Eitihad.

What, in all seriousness, do you think heās done to even begin to destroy āall the good will the clubs [sic] built up over the last few yearsā? |

For a couple of hours I've been dying to ask you what a back tracing unit does. Does it use that thin shiny paper and a nice pencil, or is it all compootas these days? What do they do with the tracings? Is it for checking for backbone?

It would be more honest to advertise that game as Oxford Utd versus an Ipswich XI. I hope none of the locals turned up expecting to see a team of PL thoroughbreds. [Post edited 1 Aug 20:01]

TBF spoke to some oxford fans at HT and they were annoyed with the side we put out. It was their last pre season friendly before their season starts and wanted a tough game, but felt it was laughably terrible from a competitive point of view

Laughably terrible is interesting as that doesn't bode well for Oxford. For how poor we were and very disorganised in defence it took Johnson to completely switch off and a Button howler for them to win.

Well at Stevenage v Col.U, the ref sent off a U's defender after 15 minutes for handling the ball on the line. BOTH managers told the ref it hit the players thigh, but the ref insisted he go. So they played 75 minutes 11 v 10.

But then you canāt give the whole squad 90 mins without the 2 games either, so what to do š¤·āāļø. I can see why people would get peed off with paying Ā£20 for just a training run out though. |
There was another option... It's preseason....
