Because he’s a cancer who’d take us in the same direction of corruption as Trump; so some of us are taking the warnings that far too many people in the US slept through. [Post edited 14 Aug 7:00]

It’s an odd one, on the face of it that’s a lot of votes for the bin… but you’d think it’d be higher still as the voters who aren’t fans of Farage wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on giving him a much bloodier nose regardless of their parties not standing and would have gone for bin face. Purely on the vote numbers turnout included (high for a by-election) and nothing else .. I think it’s a better result than Farage could have hoped for. [Post edited 14 Aug 7:51]

| Farage bails on Clacton - again on 07:50 - Aug 14 with 2092 views | BlueBoots | Resounding victory? Quarter of a million pounds of taxpayers money spent on a by-election to gain an extra 1,000 votes since the last election (despite the major parties not fielding candidates), and nearly 10,000 people preferred to vote for someone with policies that include giving Grade 1 Listed Status to Claudia Winkleman's fringe. With the Burnham Bounce, Restore eating into Reform's share thanks to their backing from Elon Musk, and blimey, even Kemi rising in popularity to give the Conservatives a bit of hope, it's going to take something pretty major for Reform to be anywhere near power by the time the next GE rolls around (and of course that's pending Farage being found not guilty by the parliamentary committee who can now resume their investigation now he's back returned as an MP) | |

43% is not high for a by-election. There have been many far higher. Farage got the support of 28% of the electorate which suggests a pretty high turnout of Reform supporters assuming that the current opinion polls are correct - Reform less than 25% nationally, but Clacton likely to be well above average. It was of course the result of very intensive campaigning from Reform supporters across the country.

Is it fair to say that it’s basically a workmanlike 2-0 win for a PL team against non-league opposition in a half empty stadium?

I think with ~25% of the vote, 2-1 seems fairer to Binface. SB

A PL team who have spaffed all of their transfer budget on a single right winger, who may have to play the whole season in an ankle tag. The rest of the squad are free transfer has-beens from a free-falling team who play in a darker shade of blue. And there's no five year plan. In fact no plan at all. Just shouting. Conference-bound.

Also, its the Lefty Attack Squad, not leftist, and i coined it as a self deprecating term so it doesn't really work as a serious insult.

Binface against the run of play in the 8th minute. The right-winger with a brace in the final ten minutes to win the tie and save face.

The figure I saw was north of £ 325 000 on account of the extra long ballot paper Could we not charge Farage with wasting public funds? A third of a mill just to get us back to where we were a few weeks ago

I guess one question that could be asked is: What did Farage want to spend a month doing, that he couldn't do, or wouldn't be allowed to do, as an MP? Because he sure as hell hasn't spent the last four weeks pounding the streets of Clacton pushing leaflets through letterboxes!
