| McKenna fully recovered and ready to take over Manchester United 12:24 - Sep 23 with 5055 views | ITFC_Essex | According to a few Manchester United facebook pages our fans are reacting to. Wouldn't surprise me if they were already holding talks about Carrick, but that Manchester United side, bar a couple of stars, isn't very good and a change of manager won't do much for them. It's McKenna's dream job, so nothing against him taking it, and if anything by leaving us early we have actually been able to get our house in order rather than scraping around in the season trying to find a boss. It's interesting that our support is excited about the £8mil compensation though, even though that sort of money in 2026 gets you a George Hirst. Not really the sort of money worth losing your first class manager over, which begs the question, why are managerial compensations so low compared to fees these days? They don't seem to have caught up with the market. | |

Therefore it's a single big lump on the accounts, not a series of moderate expenses.

| McKenna fully recovered and ready to take over Manchester United on 12:34 - Sep 23 with 4048 views | Ftnfwest | If they ditch Carrick at this point i'd suggest Kieran's the last manager they'd replace him with. Maybe in the future but not now. | | | |
| McKenna fully recovered and ready to take over Manchester United on 12:35 - Sep 23 with 4044 views | TripSwitch | If it does happen, I'd be pleased for him, however unpopular opinion as it may be, I think that if hes to take the job at this point kn his career he will tank at Man U. Needs to take another job as a stepping stone to gain experience, just like Eddie Howe did from Bournemouth to Newcastle. As it stands now i just dont see him being versatile enough, only one way of playing etc, and if he struggled with the pressure at Ipswich last season how is he going to cope at one of the biggest clubs in the world? Management appointments are often a reaction to the last guy and McKenna would seen as too much like Carrick in profile. | |

Since Ferguson, United have tried PL / Euro League experienced with Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and gone continental "up and comer" with Rangnick, ten Haag and Amorim, plus the "young and knows the club" like Solskjaer and Carrick. Not sure what is left to try . . . maybe the problem sits elsewhere.

It potentially opens up option for a £35M player and wages in Jan on a 5 year contract with low impact on SCR . . .

Talking of the problem lying elsewhere... I was thinking the other day about Utd's recruitment, and over the last 10 years, I was trying to think of anyone that had left Utd and gone on to have a more successful career. The obvious one is Scott McTominay, but of course, he'd been at the club since he was 5, so his "recruitment" pre-dates the Utd banter years... I really struggled to think of anyone.... perhaps this is more the issue, that over the last 10 years, they really really haven't bought well...

Quite agree. Especially when Eddie Howe is available as well.

Agree entirely. The trouble is, it’s his and many others dream job. If he gets the chance, he has to take it. Anyway, up to him. If he gets the job or any other, good luck to him.

| McKenna fully recovered and ready to take over Manchester United on 13:26 - Sep 23 with 3349 views | OldFart71 | It wasn't that long ago that Utd were if not the biggest club in the world certainly in the top three. I'm not sure that situation still exists. Old Trafford is exactly that OLD. No longer the theatre of dreams, more the theatre of nightmares. I would suggest that players like Tielemans aren't of the quality Utd need. Whether it is correct that KM would go to Utd should he be given the job. It is a poison chalice. Since Fergie left if KM took over including interim managers he would be the 11th manager in 13 years. That is truly disastrous for any club and a wake up call for anyone considering taking over should Carrick get the heave-ho. | | | |

Don't think there is anything left, but half of it is about optics. McKenna would indeed be viewed only as a slightly better Carrick.

He's kind of a similar coach to Carrick.... background-wise. Doesn't make sense. Surely Kieran is better of with a step by step approach. Mid-table prem team before a move to a top six club. And Man U is an oil tanker still trying to turn around.

His representatives however didn't show the same level of 'class' so wouldn't be surprised if they are speaking with Utd.

I can understand that element, but you'd think a top coach would command a little more of a lump sum?

It's sort of an agent's duty to do these things, no point getting upset about it in the mercenary world of football. If there was a sniff at a top job, with generational wealth attached, even for failure, they are employed to find those opportunities.

They could have bought better, that's for sure. But an even bigger problem for them is that they haven't sold well. Not only have they bought badly, they recoup peanuts when they sell their duds. If you have success upon success, year after year that's not a biggy, but when the trophies dry up you get hit very badly.

Yeah definitely a case of both. Look at some of these signings: - Van De Beek - £35 mill paid - £420k received - Sancho - £75 mill paid - released on a free - Antony - £85 mill paid - £19 mill received - Casemiro - £60 mill paid - released on a free - Hoijlund - £72 mill paid - £38 mill received - Onana - £43 mill paid - Bombed out on loan Pretty mental that they have made people redundant and cut costs back from food for staff etc when they have pi55ed that much money away on incredibly poor business.
