Agree fully on the second though.
I think most of us agree that the state of Israel (currently) is evil, that the occupation of the West Bank is immoral, and the ongoing war in Gaza is a stain on the world. None of that is really up for debate now, surely?
But this motion feels like a huge own goal for a party that wants to be taken seriously. Even if you get around the differing interpretations of Zionism, it is only ever going to be pulled apart across the entire media ecosystem in this country. It will lose them the support of a good number of people who would otherwise want to support them. It will be a huge distraction away from anything serious they want to achieve with their messaging. A lot of the Corbynistas who jumped ship went to the Greens, after lots of talk of antisemitism on his watch. It’s not a leap to suggest those who see all Jews as IDF / idf sympathisers or whatever lumpy wording I’m looking for here, would be attracted to the Greens alongside newly zealous converts (Polanski was the future of British politics for a little bit after all).
I’d suggest the influx has brought some rather unpleasant ideas with it and in the milieu, disgust at Israel has become infected with a darker flavour. You can see it on social media etc. It’s a shame so much of the debate and outrage around Israel’s actions has lead to a position where people seem to want to choose between the existence of Israel or Palestine instead of both etc.

This is bang on. It’s an absolutely ridiculous position to take for anyone, let alone a political party and it feels like the just keep shooting themselves in the foot. Zionism doesn’t have a clear cut, approved definition so it leads to both sides of the argument being open to attack.
If you believe Zionism to be believing that Jewish people deserve a safe homeland then calling it racism is an appalling view, if you believe Zionism to be believing that Jewish people are above other races and this gives them the right to attack other people then it’s right to call it racist but because there’s no clear definition it’s a completely meaningless but also hugely damaging statement to make. |  | | |

Israel considers the west bank part of israel- and its continuing to annex it piece by piece, by force.
That is what many in the islamic world, and middle east undrstand by "zionism".

It's been hi-jacked by the same hard-left morons that jumped into the Labour party at £3 membership fee so they could elect comrade Corbyn as leader. They were cast adrift post Corbyn and have made The Greens their new home (with 'Your Party' too shambolic to be taken seriously).
To be fair, I don't think the Gren leadership wanted the resolution to pass - knowing how divisive it would be no doubt - but they have batty 'all members decide' rules for these things which is basically a recipe for chaos.

A very grim outcome. Listened to the News Agents podcast where some Green members were arguing their case for the motion but their logic was essentially that because Netanyahu’s government is doing some awful and racist things, it therefore renders the entire Zionist movement racist. It’s like arguing we should ban Islam because of Al-Qaeda/ISIS, which is the kind of nonsense that the likes of Tommy Robinson would come out with.

The point today is that a mainstream political party in the U.K. has declared zionism, I.e. the desire for a homeland by a group of people as racism. That it is right and fair that the state of Israel is replaced by Palestine. Do you agree with that? Yes or no?

It's not the same as annexing it though. Israel built settlements in Sinai, then dismantled them when there was a peace treaty with Egypt. It built them in Gaza for 35 years until deciding to pull them all out in the mid-2000s.
When there's eventually a peace deal with the Palestinians, I'd imagine many West Bank settlements will be dismantled, with others close to the Green Line incorporated into Israel via border adjustments (there have long been proposals to give the Palestinians additional land in various places to compensate). | | | |
