Time to get back to basics - Team for Saturday 20:16 - Nov 14 with 4028 viewsGlasgowBlue

We need to tighten up our defence for starters. So I'd revert to the three at the back system with wing backs bombing down the flanks. I'd also rest players who are out of form (Walton excepted).

So my team for Saturday would be...

............................Walton........................

.....Edmundson......Woolfenden........Burges......

KYV..................................................Davis

.....................Morsy.......Camara.................

Jackson..................Ladapo..............Edwards

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I wouldn't play him to many games. He's still very young and looked a little lightweight on Saturday imo.

Camara won't last 90 minutes and Humphreys can replace him mid way through the second half.

I'm not concerned about his age, certainly not over loaded.

Excellent performances so far, deserves the game time.

Have we tried Leeds circa 1968.
1st minute take out their top scorer with a reckless challenge.
OK we're down to 10 men but they have no way to score.
Suggest executioner is a fringe player who'll take one for the team.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

I’d like to see that line up Saturday, strong defence with burgess and edmundson and agree on Humphrey’s , shouldn’t give him too much too soon. Still Plenty of time for him to progress, definitely looked a bit lightweight.

From some of McKenna's comments about introducing Camara slowly I just can't see him starting. Not sure I'd want Humphreys having to start Sat-Tues-Sat but a game a week seems okay for him

Hes 19, its not a problem.

Yes, maybe not 46 games a season, but 2 games a week isn't an issue for a period of time.

Cam Burgess back definitely, assuming he is match fit. Any news on the Donacien injury on Saturday?

A team without stars with the poss exception of Morsy is what we are. And now Burns is revealed as the mortal who played 150 games for Fleetwood Town before anyone took the plunge, and might now need a rest. Suddenly we don't have our previous strength in depth, and can't swap, say, Ladapo for JJ or Harness for Aluko.

So, for the moment, I think we look to eliminate the risk of such as Edmundson or KYV, whose lapses are, at present, costing us. Humphries has done little wrong, and much right. Chaplin, frustrating though he is, has a higher ceiling than Jackson. Keogh was recently a regular in the next tier, and highly is thought of still. Such factors combined together just might currently inject a bit of harder-to-beat strength.

I'd stick with what we've been doing and "trust the process", personally. When you've got a team that's generally playing well, the worst thing you can is to overreact to a setback or two.

The last 7 shots on target that Christian Walton has faced have gone:
Rebound to Striker; Conceded; Rebound to Striker; Conceded; Conceded; Conceded; Conceded. If that keeps happening we aren't going to win many football matches and we have to trust that it won't.

Wow, I hadn't appreciated that it was quite that bad a run for Walton.

I did notice that the opposition's keeper faced shot after shot after shot in the warm up. Walton not so much. I mean, I guess he must get the practice in at some point, but his recent performances wouldn't necessarily prove it.

Quite a drop off in form for a keeper who had been absolutely dominant and inspired so much confidence.

Humphreys for Camara as I'm nlt sure if the latter is ready for 65 minutes yet, Otherwise agree with the line up.

That is truly appalling goalkeeping.

Maybe has something to do with why he’s not performing at a higher level……?

On board with the back 3 but would certainly not leave out Burns for KVY. They'll fear Burns, teams have doubled up on him this season which in turn creates space elsewhere. I don't think sides will fear KVY, no disrespect to him. Also if JD is fit he needs to start, I think we win that game on Saturday if he doesn't go off.

Walton
JD Woolfenden Edmundson
Burns Davis
Morsy Humphreys
Chaplin Harness
Ladapo

Funny how much can change in a month. We now apparently might not have the 'best keeper in the league', we ship goals for fun, we're good in cups and unbeatable on the telly.

Or to do with the fact that he's a really good keeper having a dodgy period and there's nothing to see here.

Wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Keep it the same, maybe swapping Edwards in for Harness. Our performance levels are remarkably consistent even in drawing or losing. We've fallen short a couple of times recently but I see no reason to chuck things up in the air. Keep going as we are (without losing any more key players) and we'll be fine.

You be correct if it wasn't for his stats on goals conceded v shots on target. For a promotion challenging side its actually really low and not good.

BUT. What he has given us over the months is a keeper who's Been calm, has controlled his area well and has improved with his distribution..

a niche perspective

Especially when you see Cooper again pull off save after save to ensure Plymouth get a point on Saturday

A few weeks back Walton and Cooper were neck and neck in the 'Goals Prevented' rate. Expected Goals on Target against vs Actually conceded

Currently Cooper is now on +5.0.....3rd in the league has 1.9 so he is absolutely miles ahead if you were to look at it....Walton now down at -1.1 and now 10th in the league for those who have played mor than 50% of teams minutes.

6 goal swing on the GKs is massive

Burgess is a must, I would keep Humphries he has earnt the chance, Harness and Edwards behind Ladapo.

Camera to come in if we are ahead at 70 and looking to see it out.

He certainly looks the real deal. YPOTS 2 years ago, POTS last season, L1 Team of the Year and L1 Golden Glove last season too. Can only be a matter of time before a bigger club takes a punt on him. Richard Wright vibes with him.

Of all the things that go wrong in football, a significant downturn for your uncontested starting goalkeeper is just about the worst one. It will always cost you points, it can't be mitigated by adjusting tactics, you can't rest or rotate. Bart's downturn was one of the big contributors to relegation in 2018-19 for me.

Agree with everyone else saying there's no need to mess about with the team that much - we're almost a 3atb in possession most games anyway so the only change here is folding back into more of a traditional 5 off it which I don't see the point in. I'd put Edwards in ahead of Harness but apart from that would leave it, depending on Donacien's fitness.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Walton
Davis, Edmundson, Woolfy, KVY
Humphreys, Morsy,
Harness, Chaplin, Burns,
Ladapo.

I'm assuming JD is out, if not he starts for KVY.
I'm not changing much. No need, imo. We absolutely battered Cheltenham. And were just unlucky in front of goal. Wave after wave of attack. And the lads played really well.
Not sure I'd risk Camara as a starter, just yet. Unless he is 100% ready , for sure. Last thing we need is another player breaking down. But he's a good bench option and looked threatening , imo, when he came on Saturday. (Against tired defenders).. Same for Edwards and Jackson. Giving us energy off the bench.
I know it's a cliche, but can't help feeling that someone is due a heavy beating by us.. Hopefully Saturday.
