Sone Aluko 11:18 - Dec 11 with 2448 views | WestSussexBlue | Apologies if this already posted but this guy never fails to impress. Normally players take a few games to get back up to speed but his return yesterday seemed the catalyst for a very strong Town performance. Great to have him available again. Sone Aluko on 11:31 - Dec 11 with 2385 views | Darth_Koont | Different level and different need but Aluko has the same ability as McGoldrick to knit things together in the opposition half. I get the point that he can slow things down sometimes too but bringing some structure, ball retention and linking up with the players around him is much needed at times. And I think it stopped Posh ever getting into much of a rhythm as we didn’t lose the ball cheaply throughout. Understandably faded as the second half wore on. But great to have him back and an option – from the start or off the bench as I’m more than happy for McKenna to make that call game by game.

Sone Aluko on 12:51 - Dec 11 with 2265 views | quad | I'm in the compete minority and will get a lot of flak for saying this but I wasn't overly impressed with Aluko. Clearly a skillful player, but for me he slows play down and he tries to do too much. Lost possession a lot in the first half by trying to beat players when I think he would be better off passing more often, he seems a bit of a ball hog to me. It wasn't long ago everyone was saying how amazing Edwards was and how he should be starting every game. That now seems to have been completely forgotten about. I'm not Jackson's biggest fan either but I thought he had an excellent game yesterday. Considering he was practically playing as a lone striker with very little service his work rate and constant pressing was superb. How EADT gave Aluko 8/10 and Jackson 7/10 is beyond me.
Sone Aluko on 16:48 - Dec 11 with 2084 views | monytowbray | So glad he’s back. Was amazed to discover his age last year too, speed he runs and stamina at mid 30s. Him, Janoi and Burns are arguably the best set of wide players we’ve had since Burley days.

Sone Aluko on 20:33 - Dec 11 with 1883 views | Radlett_blue | Aluko is a good footballer, but he rarely supplies an end product. He has scored 3 times in 37 Town appearances & has rarely scored much in the last 5 years of his career. Not enough for an attacking midfield player at this level.

Yeah I think there are striking similarities between Sone and McGoldrick, the way he looks after the ball and just oozes quality. Certainly not getting any younger and lacks that yard of pace but sharp minded, sees a pass and can execute it. Touch and close control is very consistently good too. Plays deeper than McGoldrick did but just a quality player and hopefully a big 6 months from him coming up.

Sone Aluko on 10:04 - Dec 12 with 1271 views | Broadhill | Going to be such an important player during the run in. I hope he is used at the right time and isnt burnt out through over use in the next few months due to his age. We need him involved just at the right times. Maybe off the bench to help see games out is where he will be at his best.
Sone Aluko on 10:34 - Dec 12 with 1236 views | Simonds92 | Clearly good at going past people even at his age. His close control is very good and he clearly has a lot of ability. On the flip side his end product really needs to improve as evidenced by his lack of goals and assists. [Post edited 12 Dec 2022 10:40]

look at those attached clips on the thread and you can see why aluko gets 8 out of 10. Capable of doing stuff that few in this division can. Im more surprised at the love in for Jackson. Yes he tries. But a goal from him is as rare as some very rare stuff. And that's what really counts as a striker.

I just don't think he's good enough on the ball. Useful enough squad player but for me he's not really a forward, doesn't hold the ball up particularly well with his back to goal, touch is often lacking, doesn't seem to have that intelligence or strikers instinct. As you say he offers such little goal threat. He does put in a shift, he works the channels with his pace and his press is good, but I can probably find you someone fast and hard working for less than £1.7m. Price tag isn't his fault of course, and if he had all of the above he wouldn't be playing for us. I just want to see someone with a bit more guile, bit more natural quality about them.

Can definitely see the McGoldrick comparison, similar control and use of the ball. It makes a big difference to our play.
