Derby were just cranking it up and were ramping up some pressure and Burns and Chaplin go down simultaneously with knocks… and game delayed for some time
And both sets of players head to managers for advice
Slowed Derby down quite nicely!
Or am I getting that wrong?
Plenty of other teams have done that to us this season!!
I saw one Derby fan say we were the perfect balance of everything - including the dark arts. As much as I hate it, I think we need to be do go up. Nice teams aren't successful.
I did feel it was a bit daft wasting so much time before we'd even hit 50 minutes resulting in 2 yellows. I'm all for slowing things down. But at least swap players who do it.
I think the penny dropped with Mckenna, his staff and players after the Bristol Rovers away game. You will never finish top 2 in this league wanting 70% possession each game. We're now happy to let the oppo have it and when the turnover happens we have some seriously dangerous players for this level. Derby actually had more possession than us yesterday but partly I think this was on purpose.
Players are staying down for 1 minute instead of 30 seconds which is brilliant. Main annoyance is we had a ref yesterday who booked a few of our players for doing this. The irony!

We’ve only been waiting 20 years to master this. Do,you remember Burnley, Wigan, Millwall, et all all bullying us? Fcuk em’, this is what we’ve been waiting for, it’s called modern football , and we’re on our way

We’ve just started to adopt it, and the fa are now starting to stamp it out by producing cards and adding massive amounts of extra time. 😂

Thought Clarke's one was a bit unlucky - he was looking for options and no-one was moving for him. A couple of minutes later a Derby player takes a lot longer to take a throw in a similiar situation.

Clarke's was always going to happen and as someone has suggested above, we should've swapped out players to do this - I guess the fear is moving players out of position. But even with a massive bias, I thought Clarke overdid the time wasting.
I don't mind forwards doing it, but when a defender gets a yellow with so much left on the clock, it becomes a worry.
I was talking to my brother who went yesterday earlier on and we both brought this up a couple of times.
We're doing all the stuff everybody was complaining about the opposition did to sh!thouse a win or draw out of us for god knows how long. Blatant timewasting at the end, couple of injury breaks so we could stop the game and regroup.
It's good to see this more cynical style, if we do end up in the play-offs and it's like Bolton 2000 and we have to go toe to toe with someone who wants go to war, we've got the kind of characters in the squad who can do that.
Well if refs are supposedly clamping form on these so called dark arts, thus should help us at PR for the rest of the season because I’m sick of seeing opponents do this to ts from the 1st bloody minute!

For how many years have we wished we had the dark side to our game?
It’d quite refreshing

Thats exactly how I saw it...Took the sting out of the game when it was starting to hot up..... Plymouth did exactly the same at PR when we were 1 nil up and well on top. Scarr went down for what felt like 10 minutes at the time it really did our rhythm..

... but we should still be allowed to do it away from PR, right? It worked well for us yesterday.

Game management is important and we are getting better at this.
But we need to be smart too. Burns kicking the bal off the pitch when it could have gone at most 20m was daft - such an easy yellow for the ref to give. Better to just leave the ball and walk back into position.
I thought Clarke was unlucky, I am not sure he had options.
And it looks like the refs are onto the keeper setting up in the middle of the goal and then after 30 seconds waving players forward. Seen plenty of keepers do that at PR this season. Happy if this becomes an automatic yellow.
We had three bookings yesterday, all for time wasting. And Morsy was not booked...

There's a podcast called Undr the Cosh (brilliant by the way). David Stockdale was a guest and he laid bare Wycombe's tactics which we all knew anyway. He said he always wasted time when opposition was on top because they can add 6, 7, 8 minutes on at the end but you will never recreate momentum in a game. It's obvious but so true yesterday of us. And Plymouth that time when we really had them on the ropes.

I looked like we were trying to take the sting out of their momentum, which, as you suggest, has been done to us in the past. I complained that we didn't do that often, because we are the better football team vs all in the division. But now we are willing to recognize the impact and do it ourselves is great. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it in the game, but that is for the rule-makers and referees to sort. We can't waste seasons in this division waiting for them to sort it out. It was a great balance overall, as we took the game to them on our terms. 2-0 away at Derby and bolton speaks for itself as to the effectiveness.

You sum it up well. If your team does it and it pays off like it did yesterday, brilliant. But ultimately it shouldn't be in the game, it's like basketball now with regular time outs.

Incredibly daft by Burns, deserved yellow.
Something else I'd like to see result in a warning and yellow if necessary, is keepers falling to the floor after collecting the ball for no reason other than to spend time getting up again. Walton does it a lot and actually exaggerates it a fair bit - he's almost asking for a yellow card.
It seems quite common for teams to have almost a time out phase now, it's all very strange
It's become the norm now, it's almost as if we have learnt from the other teams who do it and have just embraced it
Plymouth unintentionally or not, managed to kill our momentum when we scored, with some stoppages just as it looked like we may run rampant and eventually they nicked that equaliser at the end

I don't feel Clarke took any longer than a normal situation but the referee seemed to be a bit pressured into it by their fans, that's the home advantage you get
I felt he made a rod for his own back there, it would have been gutting if Clarke had got a second booking at a later a stage, that may have played a part in Donacien coming on I suspect
The amount of times opposition have done it to us and the referees have let it go, it's quite ironic we get penalised for it. The referees should crack down it, let's be honest but his approach wasn't consistent with what we have been experiencing this season
