Anyone else feeling somewhat ambivalent about the coronation? (n/t) on 15:33 - May 4 with 2688 views | J2BLUE | Not really. Apart from wanting everyone to be safe and nothing majorly bad to happen, I hope it goes pretty badly. I think this whole thing has highlighted why we need to be a republic. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Won't watch any of the pomp and ceremony myself, but I'm grateful for the bank holiday.

I share your opinion. I hope that everything that could possibly go wrong without major harm coming to anyone does go wrong. Almost as if to signify the utter farce that the whole thing is. Doubly so if it results in Charlie getting visibly more and more frustrated and angry as the day goes on, with him finally snapping, snatching the crown from the Archbishop of Canterbury, and throwing the mother of all hissy fits. What has been going on to make it ridiculous? Genuine question. Interested in knowing what I've missed. I've been so busy the past couple of weeks that I've barely looked at anything media-related.

£250m on Charlie's ego trip during a cost of living crisis? Harbouring a paedophile, and paying off his victim? The suppression of protest?

The cost The rushed into law anti protest stuff The inviting people to swear allegiance to him and his descendants The fact we're placing a crown on someone's head and calling him His Royal Highness The fact people are saying 'long to reign over us' with seemingly no thought as to what it means The fact they are so out of touch that William and Kate getting on the tube to visit a pub is a breaking headline news story. Oh lets go and see where the plebs hang out, won't it be a laugh I could tolerate the queen. She was inoffensive and decent. I have zero interest in the coronation outside of opposing it on principle.

Anyone else feeling somewhat ambivalent about the coronation? (n/t) on 15:52 - May 4 with 2526 views | BlueOura | Ambivalent? no, that would suggest that i dont care. I care very much that £100m of taxpayer money is being wasted on a huge self indulgent party for an already incredibly priviledged family, at a time when a great deal of normal folk are really struggling to keep afloat. I'd also be interested to know what the carbon footprint will be for this event, especially seeing as Charles and his Son's have spent the last few years lecturing everybody else about climate change.

1) I've somehow managed to completely miss that. Definitely seems unnecessary. 3) I do recall now hearing about that on the radio just yesterday. The bit about a new law allowing police being able to search people before any protest-related disruption has been committed seems very 1984/Minority Report. Weren't they also arresting journalists for being present at protests a couple of months ago?

Anyone else feeling somewhat ambivalent about the coronation? (n/t) on 15:58 - May 4 with 2465 views | hype313 | No Interest for me. The whole ting is outdated, if you said to someone what we're going to do is give this family untold wealth, land, prestige, castles all paid for by us, there would be uproar. I also think we would be doing a few of them a massive favour as it seems a lot of them would rather live a normal life. More and more countries are becoming republics, once Australia go, that will start a huge domino, and then we'll have questions here about the future of this monarchy.

Yep, I’m completely ambivalent about it but it’ll be on all day as Mrs C will be glued to it. I think the congregation should be given the chance to play frisbee with the crown. First one to land it on Charlie’s bonce gets a shiny new medal. I’d watch that. Actually, when he was crowned Emperor, Napoleon grabbed the crown and slapped it on his own head when he got bored.

Thanks, J2. Can't argue with much there. I also recall now hearing about him inviting people to pledge allegiance. Definitely haven't been paying much attention though. Probably the best way!

Anyone else feeling somewhat ambivalent about the coronation? (n/t) on 16:02 - May 4 with 2429 views | Herbivore | It's an absurd waste of money. Spending hundreds of millions on pomp and ceremony to an outdated and largely redundant institution at a time when millions of households are struggling with the cost of living and our public services are in crisis seems utterly fooking bonkers to me. When your head of state can't even force a PM that has broken the law to resign then there's really not much point in them, not to mention the ridiculousness of being head of state by right of birth.

No and another thing while i'm ranting, the royal commentators who will stand around saying what a great day it is for the nation and how the whole country is behind the new king, they can do one as well. They are useful idiots brought out for propaganda purposes repeating the same tired lies. The whole thing is a complete whitewash of what the public really think. I realise many at least partially support them for some reason but I would love to see the actual split of national opinion. The fact a 'slimmed down' coronation is costing £250m is ridiculous. That's roughly a £100,000 donation to every food bank in the country...

Indeed. So called journalists that are little more than propagandists for the tired institution do my head in. I won't be watching, I shall be on a motorbike ride to Brugges to sample some Belgian coffee and chocolate for the day.
