Whatever you think of that as a statement, it is telling that they are having to fall back on this sort of thing to shore up their support. Looks like their record of running the country isn't up to muster.

I suspect his advisers have seen that this issue is now a daily battle on Twitter and have seen an opportunity. Wasn't there a story a while back where Starmer's team said he basically had to say the same thing or he might as well concede the election now?
If Starmer takes the bait this could well be one of the biggest issues going into the election.
People with Body dysmorphia, just pull yourself together and stop being so woke.
Why oh why oh why should hard working families pay for mental health services for people that can’t put on a stiff upper lip and get on with it, like people did during the war etc…..

Does anyone think this is Rishi's actual view, plus he is happy to stand up and talk about sex which is biological, but note he doesn't say gender - wonder if anyone will press him to say it re gender?
If I was in the same position as Rishi I'd worried about more important issues like the cost of living crisis or that people starving rather than what someone identifys as

The label "body dysmorphia" is rejected by manyTrans Activists. It is vestige of Medicalisation, which reinforces the concept of identity transition as a symptom of dysfunction, rather than a positive embracing of reality, as they would frame it.
Just letting you know- The language around Trans-Rights is an incredibly fast moving minefield of eggshells to try not to step on, whilst avoiding all manner of bear traps and banana skins!

Would it be churlish to point out the huge number of WW2 veterans who had PTSD? At least three teachers at my grammar school exhibited palpable signs of PTSD? There was the withdrawn one. He'd suffered god knows what in the Far East. There were at least two with such short fuses they could explode into uncontrollable rages over the slightest thing.
But I doubt rishi has ever known anybody whose suffered such hell. The rich elite like him just glide through life.

The important thing is that you're distracted by this, and don't focus too much on everything in the country breaking down.
This. So much this.
I really have no strong views on the trans 'debate', largely because it is a complicated subject, and one that I don't pretend to fully understand.
It is, without doubt though, almost irrelevant to almost everyone in the country when compared to things like public spending, our national infrastructure, the cost of living crisis, our standing on the international stage etc etc.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

"If Starmer takes the bait this could well be one of the biggest issues going into the election"
Which would sum up the state of the festering & deepening swamp that is the UK political system.

They've f***ed the country up, the culture war is the only thing they have left.
